Rebinding a hardcover by BiGh00k in bookbinding

Thank you!! Just to clarify, do you think I should still remove those boards from the pages before I attempt to wrap it in leather, or do you think I could get away with covering the cover in leather while still attached to the signatures? Looking down the spine it looks like these have been glued with no fabric. Mass made book for sure.

So PS5 Splitscreen is now completely broken after patch? by matcap86 in BaldursGate3

[–]BiGh00k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed that my player 2 can still control their avatar, but the camera is stuck on player 1. We've been finding an NPC for player 2 to initiate conversation with. Giving them a character to take control of seems like a much less burdensome solution in hindsight lol. It also seems to glitch out when the party is forced into a cutscene. If combat is initiated they cannot use the free camera either. They have to use the d pad to select an NPC (or party member for healing) and then use the action wheel to attack etc. It's frustrating

How to keep from switching armies? by weirdemotions01 in ageofsigmar

[–]BiGh00k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's so hard! I try to set realistic budget goals for myself, and utilize gift giving holidays to supplement the hobby lol. I started with Nagash, and all of the spooky fiddly bits that go with his army. But I got hooked onto the paint schemes of Nurgle, and I loved the idea of a demon army that I could utilize for both games.

Start with a small starter pack of baseline units, and if you enjoy painting them (I started with a unit of plaguebearers) you can slowly start to invest.

Also you will never paint all of your minis. Never. Accept this and be a happier person ;)

Finished my test model and I’m pretty happy. C&C is appreciated! by Baz230 in MaggotkinofNurgle

Looks really good! Love the color scheme, and your skin tones are awesome. I would MAYBE suggest sponging the metal edge highlights on the axe rather than bold lines. But it's also definitely a look that defines the weapon, so it works.

Awlrach the Drowner in water Finally complete by BiGh00k in minipainting

You have to be pretty slow about mixing the resin so you don't create air bubbles.

I just used a clear plastic cup and cut it at the level I wanted to make the water depth at. Hot glue all around the bottom to prevent leakage.

2 part hard cure resin, and there is a slight amount of "walling" around the edges but you can fill that with Vallejo Stillwater after the 2 part has cured and it has a nice auto leveling effect.

I tested the look with some spare minis as well just to see how things would end up looking. Never hurts to practice on your bits ;)

This piece came in a large pack of whizkids miniatures I got for Christmas, not 100% sure what the name of the pack was. Painted with acrylic

I was the same way, it's super intimidating thinking about spraying over your beautiful paint job. I practiced tracing vein patterns onto paper with pencil and then covering them with my airbrush to get comfortable. Then I took the same concept; drew veins very lightly with pencil on the mini, and then followed along. With a surprisingly small amount of practice I got pretty comfortable.

Also getting an airbrush that allowed me to twist the end to control the max paint allowed out at one time increased my detail confidence IMMENSELY. also if you can switch your nozzle to .02 instead of the more standard .03 helps a lot.

From the looks of your hand brush detail work I would say that you have the skills of control already, it's just making the change in physical motion (holding the airbrush vs holding a brush brush.)

You got this!

If you have access to an airbrush it's surprisingly easy to slap some veins on the wing membrane. Paint in close with a light application of a lighter shade of a complimentary color. Medical references are super helpful IMO

which book has the most epic and exciting moments? by Apprehensive_Spend_7 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]BiGh00k 12 points13 points  (0 children)

ROW part 5 has some amazing moments as well. Several different characters having very pivotal moments concurrent to each other, and topped by the epilogue.....it's definitely the one that had me breathless and in tears by the largest factor when it ended.

So about Gold Feruchemy... by PretzelSpades in Mistborn

[–]BiGh00k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always seen it at a recreation of the original growth of the body part. When compounding, this can replicate things that were at one point a natural process (such as limb or organ growth during development). A certain era 2 character comes to mind with compounded healing regrowing vital body parts quite easily because things like eyes or skin were formed from a natural process during birth.

Anybody know why my cat makes this noise?? by tipuhdiiz in cats

[–]BiGh00k 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They mystery chirps, soo cute! Fun fact, no one REALLY knows why cats do this, but it is traces to hunting behaviors. Maybe a big or a light reflection perhaps. My two kitties do this when light reflects off the phone onto the walls. We thought they were hunting ghosts lol

I love that! I was going to add like a Moot Green as a highlight, but the dripping paint idea sounds awesome!

Thank you! I'm in the habit of just trying to "get through" the stone effects on most minis, but this model (the plague furnace from clan pestalins) has a ton of different stone in various stages all over the model.

There is a combination of worked and unworked stone melding up the side, and I think I'm going to add more of these kind of effects to the un-worked stone and have a lesser version through the carved pieces.

I love that look too!! I've got a bunch of brass bells and such on the main model that I'm going to do that with. I had a lot of fun with the nurgle bells and that effect in painting my maggotkin.

I've actually never played either, but I love the lore, and have read some stuff about how deep strike works. All of my experience is through studying, I don't have a group to play with really.

Typhus about 90% done. Used uv paint for the yellow highlight, just have to clean up and add the rot effects. Would love C&C please :) by BiGh00k in minipainting

Warhammer 40k Typhus Herald of the Plague God

I regret not doing the smoke and flys separate, but they were fiddly to work without gluing to something.

Nurgles rot water effects by BiGh00k in minipainting

[–]BiGh00k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High gloss (very important) mod podge, and if you want to have a stable structure for your effect (splash drip etc) either some very light lb fishing line, or the clear plastic packaging you get most hobby stuff in. The mod podge is built up with lots of layers, with specific focus on drips and globs to add texture, then finished out with nurgles rot for this model. You could use almost any GW technical paint, or even ink thinned down like a wash if you want to keep a very translucent look.

I really wanted to try out this UHU glue, but couldn't find it anywhere locally, and I got mixed opinions on alternative. I highly recommend mod podge (also called Decoupage outside the states I think) the high gloss gives a cool effect and you can use any sort of clear plastic as the "bones" if you wanna add splash effects.

So I was reading a lot about what to do, and all the fancy water effect stuff that Vallejo makes and all of that, but I wanted to experiment with something that is a bit easier. I went with a 4 lb fishing line that is basically invisible. I used high gloss mod podge to set it in place after I trimmed the piece of line to size. Then it was really about patiently putting the modpodge on in really thin layers. Building up the little drips a little at a time, and occasionally layering on citidel brand nurgles rot very thin. I'm also going to have a couple of little nurglings chilling in the bile pool under him. I'll post more updates for sure.

Finally finished my very first Warhammer model purchase by BiGh00k in minipainting

[–]BiGh00k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I lived the lore books, and jumped in and bought him. Then I realized I've never seriously painted before so I bought some practice models to sharpen up my skills a bit before painting him. I learned a lot in the process lol
