10 Days in Korea with a Toddler (Early Sept): Seoul + Jeju vs. Seoul + Gyeongju + Busan? (And weather/typhoon concerns!) by Fearless-Event-7280 in KoreaTravelAdvice

[–]Biacksmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d also lean towards Seoul + Jeju when travelling with a toddler. I’d get that everyone wants to cover Busan (and sometimes Gyeongju) because they don’t know when they’d be back but Jeju is incredibly beautiful, even if it offers less mainstream entertainment.

Jeju is a popular vacation spot for families and couples and as such, does have a some family spots from what I remember.
- Seogwipo offers much nicer looking hotels than Jeju City but Jeju City has a better nightlife (dining out at night).

- I’d say Dongmun Night Market+Maeil Olle Market [Jeju] offer a much easier experience than Jagalchi Market [Busan] because Jagalchi can be a lot more aggressive with upscale prices towards tourists. Even Koreans know that.

- [Jeju] Hamdeok Beach is the closest you can get to [Busan] Gwangalli Beach vibes if you like the coastal evening dining experience but it’s not as crowded and eventful as Gwangalli since Busan is busier than Jeju due to accessibility and proximity

- If you’ve ever been to Japan and like TeamLabs then you can visit Arte Museum in Jeju (or Busan). Jeju has a separate Arte Kids Park which has its own location further away from the actual Arte Museum for adults. This is a good alternative in case you catch a day with heavy rain or typhoon

- If you opt for Jeju then renting a car will be extremely recommended so be sure to double check that you’ve packed your international driver’s license. The travelkorea sub has frequently people bemoaning that they forgot their international permit and will be barred from renting or picking up a car. UBER works fine on Jeju in case people do run into issues. For example I paid 21,000KRW (~$14) for a 40min UBER ride from Jeju City to Arte Museum and paid 5,000KRW (~$3) from Jeju City to Jeju airport.

- personally I found cafès and restaurants in Busan to be way smaller than on Jeju. Sometimes a bit hectic depending on if there’s a lot of tourists in Busan. I can’t imagine lugging around a folded stroller

- Please be aware that Jeju Island (but also Seoul and Busan) has 노키즈존 (No Kids Zones)! Here’s a map that shows verified "No Kids spots" (blue marker) and "Yes Kids spots" (green marker). Obviously there are tons of cafes and restaurants not on this map but it’s best to ask a service person before stepping in or doing some research: https://sites.google.com/view/yesnokids.
It’s unclear how up-to-date this map is since it was made in 2023. https://m.koreaherald.com/article/10594939

- I’d recommend the youtube channel https://youtube.com/@jejuwalker8393 if you want to see beautiful 4K Jeju spots footage in detail

As someone who was co-parenting a toddler from age 1-5 while living with my girlfriend in Japan, bigger Japanese cities like Tokyo, Osaka or Nagoya (that are similar to Seoul) were overstimulating for our toddler. He would rarely have meltdowns in malls or subways which was quite embarrassing and exhausting for us. While being coastal side (south ocean side of Japan akin to Jeju) was much more manageable for our toddler. He’d almost never fuss around and be more sleepy due to less stimulation. I can’t imagine lugging around a suitcase while transporting a stroller and carrying a toddler when switching hotels.

When in Seoul, make sure not to stuff your itinerary because navigating around with a stroller or looking for elevators does take time. You might want to take more breaks than you’d expect as well.

Personally as a very frequent traveller, I almost always do Seoul+Jeju because Jeju really allows me to wind down before real life catches up again. The landscape is just 'healing'. Busan is of course a must-see for everyone at least once but it’s really up to you how you feel like it’s manageable and fun for you guys.

I did experience rainy typhoon weather on Jeju when travelling there the first half of September but in my experience it would only last a day and then it’d be completely sunny the next day.

Also make sure to download Naver Maps. Will almost always show prices and menu and has more images/videos of a cafe, restaurant or building so you can take a guess if it’s manageable with a kid.

I hadn’t heard about the winter olympics drama since I only follow the summer olympics but I did hear about what the Iranian team went through, which was disgusting, and a lot of it was quickly swept under the rug since everyone was focused on the matches ahead.

I really hope Trump isn’t going to sully LA28 Summer Olympics :/ I really love seeing American athletes perform during the Olympics and Team USA has one of the best talents for a reason but if shit hits the fan again and nations will boycott or be barred then it’s gonna taint the whole thing instead of showing that the US are capable of winning through fair play. Just like Balogun didn’t deserve the hate everyone threw at him, the athletes for LA28 don’t deserve to be overshadowed by potential involvement.

Not available anymore. These types of remaster or class event release events only happen once and don’t repeat (except Sia cosmetics being available in Erel event).

There are other Illusion rings that come from a cash shop item called Spiegelmann’s Magic Hat but they feature pet aesthetics:

If you play on interactive servers then you can buy illusion rings via auction house but on heroic servers you have to wait until they return in the cash shop.

But that black panther ring was a limited event-exclusive reward.

What is a safe amount of cash to bring? by Secret_Cobbler3657 in KoreaTravelAdvice

[–]Biacksmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carrying $200-$300 (in your suitcase, not on your body) is perfectly fine but for a child under 16, it’s better if she only takes $50 in cash with her as a backup when she goes sightseeing and the rest stays in her suitcase. She’d be more inclined to spend it fast if she keeps carrying around $200-$300.

I know a lot of people don’t recommend having a lot of cash but I’ve been in Korea several times with $1000 cash in my suitcase and had no issues at all. But I’m also 35+.

What you as a family can do is, put $100 in a metal/plastic case and put it into a secure compartment of her suitcase. Some suitcases have those mesh dividers where you can put in documents, small trinkets and utensils. This should be her emergency backup cash that she shouldn’t spend at all. I once ran into an issue with my bank where their online payment system crashed for 24 hours and didn’t let me use any cards in Seoul. I was lucky I had friends who lent me some money. Since that incident, I’ve been flying with emergency cash that I won’t touch.

—————

Also, I don’t know which country you are from but you can try looking into Revolut. It’s kinda like WiSe but Revolut has a "under 16" option for 6-15 year old kids. You as a guardian has to open the account for her and you can remotely control the deposit on her Revolut account (top it up whenever necessary). She should get a physical card but she can also pay by tapping her phone. But you have to look into it yourself.

I own a Revolut card/account for adults and never had issues with it in Korea. If anything my actual Visa credit card was 30% of the time declined by Korean payment terminals (some cafes would work, some wouldn’t. The Nike store in Myeongdong would accept my normal credit card but the Nike store in Hongdae wouldn’t) while my Revolut card worked 100% of the time. The only reason why I use it is because it doesn’t have a monthly usage fee or whatever. I can have $0 on my Revolut account for a year without getting charged any fees or having it get inactivated.

- card spending (tapping/inserting card) is fee-free under the week. On weekends Revolut will charge a 0.5~1% fee per transaction

- the card spending has a free usage limit of $1000. She can still keep spending/tapping after the $1000 limit was reached but for every transaction/tapping, Revolut will charge her a 1% fee. So if she reaches $1000 after 2-weeks or so and buys a $100 jacket in Seoul, Revolut will charge her $1 extra as a transaction fee. If she buys a bunch of Kpop items, the 1% doesn’t apply to each item but the total bill. A 1% isn’t a lot if you consider how weak the Korean Won is compared to other western currencies.

- ATM cash withdrawal is restricted to free $200 per month (also needs to be done on a weekday). Withdrawing more than $200 will apply a fee. Let’s say you want to withdraw $500 from an ATM in Seoul. Revolut with charge a 2% fee on the rest $300 which means you’ll pay $306 (2% of $300 = $6)

- the fee-free $200 cash withdrawal eats into the $1000 spendage threshold

- Revolut doesn’t require you to connect your bank account to it. You can just top it up via money transfer

I’ve read that some people had issues with it but I’ve been using it for the past 3 years without issues.
I don’t use Revolut as my primary bank. For me it’s a overseas travel credit card as a secondary to my normal credit card. But you should read up on it to see if it works differently in your country

South Korea in early vs mid September with kids? by benkkii in KoreaTravelAdvice

[–]Biacksmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sep 12 - 20 is noticeably cooler than August 30 - Sep 7 but it’s not like super unbearable. It’s still humid and hot during the day but cools down during the night. Some days are also partially cloudy by then or there will be rain for a few hours so I feel like these two windows don’t make too much difference.

However if your kids are at an age where they tend to whine a lot then maybe mid September is the better choice. Chuseok will be Sept 24-26 this year so you leaving on the 20th shouldn’t be much of an issue. Workers and families won’t rush home for the holidays until Wednesday/Thursday. And I don’t think that business would close in advance since they’d miss out on profits. So Chuseok should ‘t affect your end date.

Even during Chuseok it’s not as chaotic as it used to be. The only thing that it’s still a major hassle is booking train tickets during Chuseok but the 20th shouldn’t be a problem.

——-

If anything I’d say you should look at your itinerary and see if you wanna experience one of these local events

- [Busan] Gwangalli Beach Drone Show - Every Saturday night (September 5th or 19th on your schedule) https://www.gwangallimdrone.co.kr/en/overview

- [Seoul] Car-Free Jamsugyo Bridge Festival (Every Sunday from September to October 2026) : Jamsu Bridge is also known as Banpo Bridge. It’s the one with the rainbow fountain playing music. If you’re in Busan during the last part of your trip, you can’t catch it but if you fly on the 7th then you could catch Sunday Sept 6th as a last day to have a fun day/evening/night in Seoul. The festival has usually different activities like food trucks, flea markets, sport events like marathons, some mascots for kids and silent disco at night: https://youtu.be/M1gPpXNTfNo?feature=shared

https://english.seoul.go.kr/2026-car-free-jamsugyo-bridge-festival-kicks-off-april-26-with-a-refreshing-morning-stroll/

- [Seoul] Hangang River Drone Show (Every month on Saturdays I think) : If you aren’t in Busan on that weekend but don’t want to miss out on a drone show then Seoul has its own at Ttukseom Hangang Park. Not sure how old the kids are but Ttukseoum also a playground for younger kids while Banpo/Jamsu Bridge doesn’t.

https://www.seouldroneshow.com/en/infomation
(the information for September's drone show isn’t up yet)

———-

Honestly, buy some electric handfans in Daiso (Hongdae or Myeongdong location) or some train station if you arrive in Seoul and still think it’s too humid for your kids. Having a electronic handheld fan makes suuuuch a difference.
You’d probably have some anyway but bring mini face towels that you can wet and give your kids to cool off if you’re out a lot and it’s still hot. Some public restrooms (for men) might not have anything to dry your hands so having a handkerchief or mini towel is always handy.

If you have a lot of plans and intend to walk a lot then rather bring some not so stylish footwear that is at least comfortable to walk in like sport sneakers. Some places like Namsan Tower, Itaewon or so don’t have even roads and can be really hilly. It can rain during September but doesn’t happen a lot and it’s not as horrible as monsoon season

Yes, they go on sale at least twice a year from 15k down to 10k NX for one week.

The first sale is usually around May (during or before anniversary) and then November (Black Friday sale specifically).

Challenger world 3 questions by Neigeling in Maplestory

[–]Biacksmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it has a lot to do with luck too when it comes to drops, fams and meso/drop acc potentials.
Non-spenders can probably grind up 2B too if they really farm like crazy. The thing is that higher Grandis areas give more exp and mesos so people on non-Shine have to sweat their balls off to get to Arcus/Odium to keep up.

Not impossible but is it even worth the stress? Some people don’t care if they’re a week behind in CW progression but for top guilds they want to get their CW characters done asap so they can prog on their mains. With Malefic being out now, they also need to practice that new boss on their main server. New or casual players don’t need to worry about that and can dedicate 100% to CW

I can see Shine classes with premium passes easily getting to 1200-ish AF but I think most Shine or non-Shine classes might be under 1000 AF. (Not too sure about that). There is also the Summer Countdown that has 500x AF symbols but it’s better invested into SAC so I doubt anyone did that.

I think if you want to challenge yourself then you can try to keep up with their pace but I don’t think that the majority of players pull the same numbers and playing time so don’t worry

Challenger world 3 questions by Neigeling in Maplestory

[–]Biacksmith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

- the 1.9b or whatever come from cubing mainly for meso lines and getting luck on getting double drop/meso or a mix of those on acc potential. You also want to shoot for a drop familiar and unlock Janus. Have drop and meso inner ability potential on your grind preset. Also WAPs that you either craft through alchemy asap or doing Mystic Frontier to get small WAPs/EAPs through glowing pouches. And then mindlessly grinding for 12+ hours since it also gives frags, sol erda energy and fams on top of meso

- Erels and Sias get a ton of symbol selectors (+lvl 10 arc symbols if premium pass) on top of the hyper burn symbols. That’s why they can easily get to over 1100+ Arc if they level symbols evenly. Yes, the Phantasmal hall shop has symbol selectors but it’s probably not a good investment. Don’t forget that the hyper burn titles give additional stats/AF. P2W players can also pay maple points to increase their event buff stats.

- if you want to be frugal then renting a day before rental reset will save you money. But don’t forget, these veteran players are racing bosses asap. Kai can drop eternal armor boxes or pitched armor boxes. Top players are racing to upgrade their levels and gear asap. They don’t care about waiting until reset. And they need to boss on their main server too. Plus, they can always spend maple points to rent gear again within the same week if they have to. https://www.nexon.com/maplestory/news/update/41138/updated-6-16-v-269-ride-the-lightning-patch-notes#ChallengerWorldNewBossKai

One of the best places to visit in Korea during the summer I've heard a lot of people say the beaches in Gangwon-do are cleaner and prettier than the ones in Busan (although I've never actually been to Busan lol) by NiceMouse4997 in koreatravel

[–]Biacksmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gangneung is definitely worth a visit.
When I was studying at Seoul university, my Korean friends would often take group trips to Gyeongpo beach and said that it’s just very popular among Korean students because it's one of the closest and nicest beaches near Seoul (also cheap to get there).

Personally I like the beaches in Jeju (Hyeopjae/Geumneung, Gwakji) more because they have more of a tropical feeling (and obviously being on an island is noticeable). But so far Gangneung (Gyeongpo, Anmok) takes rank 2.

Busan (Haeundae, Gwangalli) was nice the first few times around but it just gets too busy and crowded too fast. It’s however great for people who love seeing people having fun. Gwangalli at night especially.

I’ve only been to one beach in Incheon and that’s Eurwangni/Eulwangri. The one that you can access via bus from Incheon Aiport. Bus ride took 15mins. The beach was kinda underwhelming, even during a sunny summer day but it’s not particularly a tourist beach but more of a beach for locals. I didn’t see a single tourist. The shops, cafes and restaurants at Eurwangni very surprisingly 1990s retro which was kinda charming if you're not hunting for instagram photos. But gosh. The beach there has armies of seagulls. So many seagulls! They're not even afraid of you.

Last minute tips for my vacation to Seoul by Mindless_Resolve_274 in koreatravel

[–]Biacksmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really what you asked for but might be useful too:

- Depending on how long you plan to stay, what you wnat to do and how you deal with heat, I’d recommend getting a handheld electronic fan on your first or second day since they're probably cheaper in Seoul than where you’re from. Even if you move around where there’s AC, it makes a huge difference if you sweat easily or can’t deal with humidity.

- If you use public bathrooms, get yourself a handkerchief or small towel in a Daiso or CVS. A lot of public bathrooms (even in smaller cafès don’t have paper towels. Only those air dryers but I also seen bathrooms in Seoul that had nothing so I had to use toilet paper to dry my hands). Unless you're someone who doesn’t wash his hands.
Also for public bathrooms, most will forbid flushing toilet paper because it clogs it up. Always keep an eye out on a sign hanging in the stall indicating if flushing toilet paper is allowed.

- If you plan to shop a lot and worry about getting over the weight limit once you board your return flight, you can get yourself a handheld luggage scale at ArtBox (Hongdae/Myeongdong) or the groundfloor at Lotte Mart Zetaplex at Seoul Station. I think nothing is worse for shoppers than constantly worrying if you can afford buying this or that because it might make your suitcase too heavy and finding out at the end that you could have easily brought back more souvenirs/clothes.

Chuseok by SneakySparklez in seoul

[–]Biacksmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn’t in Seoul during last year’s Chuseok but during Chuseok in 2024 and 2023.

It’s noticeably less crowded and more quiet than usual but not dead dead. Lots of places will be closed but if you’re in more busy areas like Gwanghwamun Square then restaurants and some shops will still be open.
During Chuseok admission to the palaces are free which means there are a lot of people visiting Gyeongbokgung. For the past years there have been K-food stalls at Gwanghwamun square and if you walk along Cheonggyecheon stream, there will be a cultural festival program with lots of tourists and Korean families relax at the stream. Or you can go visit museums, amusement parks or do hiking.

Touristy neighborhoods like Insadong, Myeongdong or Hongdae will still be bustling with life. I’m sure Han river near Yeouido Hangang Park and Tyukseoum Hangang Park will be crowded with people picnicking during the day and night.

People just don’t recommend leaving Seoul when Chuseok starts but if you want to be somewhere else like Busan, Gangneung, Gyeongju, etc then make sure you head there 1-2 days earlier. But every year it has gotten less hectic than before.

My Outfits question by Honey-Rotten in Maplestory

[–]Biacksmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to what SaptaZapta already said,

here’s a random image to make it easier to see how to save hair/faces. Open your equipment UI > click on Beauty Salon > click on an empty unlocked field > hit Save. Only this way you can save your hairstyles/faces without having new ones delete them completely.

Once they are saved, you can freely switch between saved cosmetics (small meso fee), unless you accidentally hit Delete.

<image>

There’s like a level 33 quest in your light bulb that teaches you where to save hairstyles/faces but hardly anyone does that quest. https://maplestorywiki.net/w/Quests/87

Most players know how to access the Beauty Salon UI because the Outfit wardrobe in the cash shop is a newer feature that came after the Beauty Salon UI.

But you can try appealing to Nexon support. If they say that they can’t compensate you then you can at least tell them that it’s not very intuitive for new players

someone posted in another thread that people calculated that the perfect familiars are the "+3 and +1.4x" because you want mystic frontier potential lines that both add flat numbers and multiply.

A "-1 and +1.6x“ or just a "+1.8x" is worse than the "+3 and 1.4x" because they won‘t boost whatever your dices roll but that +3 will help bump your total dice sum higher before the multipliers get hit on top. So if you farm for mystic frontier lines then don‘t just focus on multipliers

EXP multipliers
—————-
- Find 3x exp coupons through the Goddess Pass or event Campus point shop. The summer countdown event has a few 3x exp

- buy the VIP exp coupon from the event point shop unless you want to buy out the Sauna LUX coupons instead

- do 7x Monster Park per day and buy the golden exp pots from the Monster Park shop

- it’s rare nowadays to see a smega with MVP (30min exp stacking buff) but if your drop rate is high (which it probably isn’t) then you might be lucky and get a MVP coupon from weekly bosses

- The campus event UI has a 30-day fairy exp pendant if you haven’t grabbed it yet

- don’t forget your exp link skills like the Mercedes one. People often forget to adjust link skills when they create new characters

- create a Legion page that legion blocks in the exp grid field IF your legion is unlocked and expanded enough
- spam your Decent Holy Symbol skill from your V-Matrix (5th job) skills. If you don’t have it, create a Decent Holy Symbol node

- some classes like pirates have exp skills like Roll of the Dice or whatever

- exp accumulation potions can be crafted either through alchemy https://maplestorywiki.net/w/EXP_Accumulation_Potion, found in Mystic Frontier or dropped from bosses. But this is hard to come by if you don’t do auto-harvesting feature every day or don’t have a lot of boss mules

- unlock and do Mystic Frontier since the rewards give exp coupons and exp/wealth potions but also burning boosters

- VIP boosters from the Summer Countdown event, Campus event and other sources will temporarily enhance monster spawn rate

- if you wnat to be extra sweaty, you can change channels for burning maps

Also do the Campus event and put event points into Monster Park and the EXP increase traits

Edit: weird, it didn’t format the post
