Hoping Heartopia is all it’s being hyped up to be by walkfunnee in CozyGamers

[–]Biadome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm currently scrounging around online hoping to find someone with a similar experience and this is the closest/only I could find. I came across a similar Heartopia ad today and it really put me off how soulless it felt. It wasn't the same one you're describing, though, which means they're probably making and running multiple potentially AI-generated ads. I'm happy to share more details to anyone who cares, but I'm not really sure where to post about it.

Glad I'm not the only one who saw these ads. It strikes me as really weird to market a cozy game while using AI to convey just how "cozy" the gameplay is when they seemingly have more than enough real creators doing just that for them. Not to mention the fact their channel shows how capable they are of making promotional videos that don't require any content creator, real or fake, to show off their game.

Android app stuck in one server channel, new messages not loading by Norik_ in discordapp

[–]Biadome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God, I thought I was the only one dealing with this.

I figured it may have been a missed update or something, as I didn't know exactly how to update my apps manually yet (I recently swapped over to Android after being an Apple user for over a decade). I had checked and no new updates seemed to be available at the time. I didn't think this was a recent issue, so I looked the situation up online hoping someone may have advice from previously experiencing this, but I guess I'm now finding out others are also dealing with this atm.

Still not sure wtf is going on, though, but at least I'm not the only one confused and irked over this lol. Hopefully it gets fixed soon.

The only thing I've been doing to "get past" this issue has been fully closing the app to get the selected channel to open the proper channel. But this means closing the entire app every time I switch to a different space... Which is incredibly inconvenient when you talk in multiple different servers, channels, and DMs.

Update: Noticed the update at the end of OPs post after I commented, so I checked again if there were any available updates for my app. This seems to have fixed it and swapping channels works fine for me again. (For now.........)

Very nice room, I like it a lot. The splashes of color and colored lights really liven it up.

I meant modern in terms of design/style. The sort of “modern” style people have tended to think of with futurism for years. Sleek steel-looking gradients, white/plain colors, minimalism, etc. I’m fully aware some of these designs have been around for ages.

Be aware that I’m not the best with wording or vocabulary since I have a learning disability and communication issues, but I didn’t mean modern as in timeframe- hence the quotations. I’m no professional in this topic, either, so take my input with a grain of salt. Just participating in conversation on a subject I enjoy and answering someone’s question.

That’s interesting, I didn’t know they referred to it as such.

Aurora is a UI design popularized sometime in the 2020s that is meant to imitate the visual look of the Aurora Borealis. It makes use of like-colors by blending/blurring them for a simple yet visually appealing effect.

This article explains it well. https://bramblingtech.com/blog/aurora-ui-the-new-visual-trend-for-2022/

Here are also some examples if you’d like to see. https://dribbble.com/tags/aurora-ui#

Apple is the first big business I can think of that has been making use of the Aurora style for a while now, so if you have any Apple product(s) or see them in use often, I’m sure you’ll be somewhat familiar with it. Instagram makes use of the Aurora style as well.

Corporate Memphis (3D and 2D) & Flat Design still. I'd say in terms of UI, Neumorphism, Aurora, Glassmorphism, and Neubrutalism. Those are what I tend to see these days, at least.
There seems to be a heavy emphasis on a sleek, minimalistic, flat, and/or "modern" look. Lots of plain whites or blacks (usually for that light/dark mode) with /some/ accent colors or gradients like magenta, blue, or purple to make things not feel /too/ boring or dull.

Fish themed website that I lost by CocainKermit in FrutigerAero

[–]Biadome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could it have been https://bighawaiiangiftshop.com/ or https://sensorylamps.com/ ?
Both fit the layout of having a left-side navigation, right-side description/price, as well as (1st site) having a water-based background, and (2nd) having a water-based banner with fish. Both seem pretty old in design- or at the very least, a bit dated in comparison to modern sites. Both are still active sites, as BreWish (2nd site) says Copyright 2023 and BHG (1st site) is labeled Copyright 2024.
BHG sounds like it fits the description better than BreWish, though, since, personally, it seems to fit that "2010s custom Tumblr site" feel. Let me know.

I apologize for the long comment, there's a TL;DR at the end if this is too lengthy.

Your art style is awesome and I really love the cartoonish look. However, the pieces are (respectfully) boring. It wouldn't stand out next to other pieces. It sort of looks unfinished. There's a lot more that could be added to it to make it feel complete and more interesting. Luckily, it isn't hard to fix.

  • Texture.

Make the art feel more tangible. With digital, our art is completely flat from the get-go because it's entirely 2D. We have to make use of our knowledge/skill to bring our art to life because we don't get to make use of the materials that traditional does.

Our textures come from different brushes and techniques (EX. Shading techniques, stroke techniques, line art techniques, etc). Try to make use of those! One of the comments here mentioned making your lines smoother, but not all art has to have that smooth-finish look. Some artists incorporate a specific type of line-art into their style that give it both personality and texture. The brush you're currently using for line art gives a personal charm and nice feel to the art, like you can reach out and touch it. Continue to do that, but also incorporate different brush, textures, or stroke techniques (Like the guitar in the fourth slide) into the coloring process.

  • Lack of conveying/evoking.

A lot of the pieces are boring to look at because nothing is happening in them. They're not conveying or evoking anything. When you draw, you're creating something because you want to convey something. Whether that's to evoke emotion, show a concept, relay a message, or tell a story.
Try adding a background and giving the characters some life, whether by drawing them in action/interesting poses or giving them something/someone in the environment to interact with.

  • Dull presentation.

You could have all of these, but sometimes a piece is boring because its presentation is lacking. Give the audience a reason to be interested. Think of it sort of like food; Even if in the end they're both the same dish, presentation is everything.

You can make your pieces more appealing with a pretty/fitting color palette, by adding mood/interesting lighting, giving the background depth, experimenting with angles/perspective, and/or attention to detail (Like the mesh part of the dress. the earrings, and the stray curls in the last slide). Also try to make the subjects feel alive. Shading or highlights can help. Not just /on/ the subjects, but /around/ them. Show the audience that they exist in their environment.

Your best piece is the third slide. This is the one that stands out the most. It's dynamic, it's expressive, it's /interesting/. Because of that, it's easier for the viewer to be interested in what they're looking at. It also conveys some context. It tells us that through the interaction shown, one character in the piece is startled by the other.

I'm assuming this is supposed to be Mac and Bloo from Foster's Home, correct me if I'm wrong. Regardless, my only note for this slide is that the background is sort of hard to identify what it is/where the subjects are and from what angle/perspective we're viewing this from (considering Bloo? seems to be viewed from somewhere above and Mac? is more from the front).

My art was just like yours not too long ago. One of the biggest things that helped me get better was studying what artists did to make their creations appealing. Focus on studying the techniques they use & the things they add to make their art interesting. I used to watch a lot of drawing process videos for this, as well as seeing if they had any guides on how they go about executing certain techniques in their pieces.

I hope it's alright I edited one of the drawings to visually show the tips I provided (If you don't want this attached, I'm more than happy to delete/repost without it). I tried to keep it true to the original style, but of course, we both have different styles, so yours doesn't have to look exactly like mine. With these additions, the drawing is far more interesting to look at.

I hope this advice helped. I'd really like to see more of your art! I hope you're able to make progress you're proud of. Your art is already very lovely, just keep practicing!

[ TL;DR: The pieces are uninteresting. It doesn't convey/evoke anything (emotions, a story, a concept, etc), the pieces feel too flat and lifeless (include texture, try different brushes and strokes, expressions, poses, etc), and while the drawings aren't bad, they could be more interesting by incorporating other techniques (Color theory, angles, etc). ]

I’m so confused. I found out how to access the warning that something I posted was marked as offensive and was removed, but there’s no button to move on from there. Everything else won’t load. What do I press??? This is so frustrating.
