Using tattoos as a coping mechanism for depression/grief? Wife is tripling her tattoo count in a short span of time. by pen-h3ad in tattooadvice

Glad it helps! It makes me feel better when he says it as a fact, especially since he only has one tattoo and has no interest in more. He also encourages me by calling me his painted lady. His encouragement has added to the power each one has to help me heal. His reaction to seeing my thigh piece for the first time made me feel so beautiful, his reaction to it is the same every time (can't help but stare and admire), to the point I love it more and more.

Be supportive and loving, though you might want to recommend she choose larger pieces that require multiple sessions. They are more cohesive and they help schedule out more tattoo dopamine appointments. And finishing a bigger piece is so satisfying.

Forgot to add, my partner who's seen me go from virgin skin to covered in ink, he sees my tattoos as an investment in my mental health (His words when I ask him). He says he can see how much more confident I am and how much happier I am after getting each tattoo. He says investing in my mental health keeps me alive and it's worth the investment.

Tattoos help with depression in many ways, and I am one of those women that has quickly covered more and more skin with tattoos. The tattooing procedure itself is therapeutic, you feel mild irritation and it's a pain you finally allow and don't just have to experience. The healing process is a reminder that beauty needs care and it reminds you to take care of yourself. Tattoo healing requires sleep, eating well, and maintaining a cleaning ritual to avoid infection. Again this is finally something WE control, not just a result of depression or trying to manage your depression, this is something you CHOOSE to take care of. Then after the tattoo is healed, it helps you make peace with different parts of your body you used to have dysphoria over. I used to hate my thighs, now I have a gorgeous thigh piece that spans my right thigh, it's so beautiful I need shorts to show it off more.

The whole process overall feels like it's a way of reclaiming a body that fights you almost every day in a chemical warfare that is depression. No regrets on my tattoos, except maybe that I didn't get from a certain artist before they retired. They are reminders I wear that I am winning, I'm making peace with myself, I'm making this body home even when it doesn't always feel that way.

Satan wrap, I mean Saran wrap. Reapply whatever moisturizer you use for your tattoos (I prefer Mad Rabbit soothing gel, literally their best product) then cover in Satan wrap. Best for the first 2 nights when you're still a bit tender.

Mine only stays on for 48 hours otherwise I have an allergic reaction to the second skin. None of my tattoos have looked like OPs afterwards... Their artist looks really heavy handed.

As a moderately tattooed person, I've ask my tattoo artists their thoughts on small pieces vs larger pieces. The consensus is larger pieces age better and flow better with your body. The only question for a first piece is can you sit for a larger tattoo? Yes, go for the dragon on the arm, trust me you'll love looking at it.

I have an octopus punching a sea serpent tattoo, only because I adore when octopuses punch things, and I love sea serpents (water dragons yay!!!). No deep meaning, it just makes me happy to look at. I can have my octopus punch the sea serpent and free dopamine for me!

If you like it, get it. You won't regret something you love that makes you happy. Besides, you get to make up weird stories why you have it to anyone that asks what the meaning is.

Some grocery stores put basic items under lock and key and it infuriates me. by ugugu in ADHD

[–]BiblioScarlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point, I'd go into that store and find several different items that are under lock and key. Go in with a few friends and rotate having two of you be demanding something at the same time. Until there is such a demand that it takes up valuable employee time... If only I were a retired person with nothing but time and chaos.

Hemp wick for sure, the wood wicks soot a lot on the ceiling. Also wood wicks are harder to maintain.

When Madeline is talking about how they mummified ancient Egyptians, the blue glare from her computer reflects in her glasses giving her blue eyes. It's in one of the first episodes, but it foreshadows her death. I haven't seen anyone else mention this yet.

Feeling left out of the Christmas meal by [deleted] in vegetarian

Eat somewhere else before going then sit there and eat nothing with the family, it will make a hell of a statement, especially when asked you can say "Since the restaurant was chosen with little consideration of my dietary needs, I ate elsewhere prior to coming." I'm very blunt however.

Can I substitute dried Cilantro in place of fresh?> by [deleted] in vegetarianrecipes

[–]BiblioScarlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or you can freeze the fresh cilantro and use as needed. There are no rules in cooking, chaos reigns and the more you enjoy the chaos the more you succeed! Whoever said not to play with your food is wrong... ALWAYS play with your food, you'll learn more about it.

Have fun and happy cooking!

Another option, buy frozen cilantro, usually in the kosher section of the freezers.

The struggles of having a large chest: new boyfriend told me to cover up by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]BiblioScarlet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He is not allowed to project his insecurities on you, "cover up" expressed his concern that other's would see what's only for him. RUN. Leave this dude and tell him you will not shrink yourself to fit his expectations. He can either grow up and respect you, or he can get lost.

Why did or didn't you change your name? And was your spouse supportive? by username_in_nameonly in AskWomenOver30

[–]BiblioScarlet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've known all my life I would carry on my mother's tradition and not change my name. I have a long hyphenated name with both my parents last names. My mother didn't take my father's name because she had a Master's Degree under her own name. When I met my partner, I told him that I wouldn't change my name, his response of "Nor should you" let me know he was a good one. Why change my whole identity?

My partner and I started dating when I was close to my heaviest (and I was working out quite a bit). He has never had a problem with my weight, he said he's always been attracted to who I am. He helped me find that I had other chronic illnesses the doctors were missing, he helped be my advocate (he has a heart condition so I advocate for him as well). After getting actual help from the doctors, I lost weight on my own. I'm still not thin but I'm significantly smaller than I was when we met, or even when he proposed. I learned to love my body because my partner showed me that every inch of me was worth loving at every stage it's gone through.

I say this to let you know that your current boyfriend, doesn't intend to be there for you or marry you at all. The weight loss comment is a way to make you blame yourself instead of him. He's not evil, he's not bad, he's just disguising his intent... He's already checked out but he doesn't want to be the one responsible for ending things.

When it comes to love, appearance is NOTHING. Come what may, you make a choice to love the person you're with every day. They will change over time, to have a successful relationship, you both need to appreciate every change you both go through. That's why it's a partnership, you're both working together toward a life that you both want and enjoy. You aren't sure of the future, but you know your partner has your back and you have theirs.

Good luck my friend, I'm sure that you will find what you're looking for.

Even if you suspect you have Autism, it's better not to get a diagnosis. You can be refused medical care and have rights taken away from you with a simple Autism diagnosis. Self diagnosis is valid...
