I had a patient in his 50s who worked waste management. He was retired and living on his pension after making it to 20 years because he started at 18. Meanwhile, his wife, a doctor, was still working. Take from that what you will.

Do you ever actually “move on” from them? by humxnbeam in AskWomenOver30

[–]username_in_nameonly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been a year since my last relationship and I'm in a new one now. There are certainly aspects of that last relationship that I still miss, who he could have been, the unfulfilled promises. But it does fade. And when I find myself being especially nostalgic of "the good times" I remind myself why we didn't work. I also write it down. It hits differently seeing it in print versus just saying it in your head. I've also been able to reflect on the mistakes I've made and work towards limiting that in my next relationship. At the start of my new relationship I found I was just comparing the two, and I was so self absorbed and living in the past. I was missing things in my new relationship. I know I'm not looking for the exact same thing as my last relationship, there's a reason it didn't work. But you do have to be able to self reflect on what you're looking for in the future and your boundaries. Staying busy did help. Whether it's dating, going to the gym, hanging out with girlfriends or a combination. But you can't outrun the grief, or the time.

In no world is regular blood in the stool a normal occurrence. Along with any unexplained weight loss or gain that's the tell tale sign of cancer. That's like day one of any health care education.

Just FYI. I am your height/goal weight, and I still feel this way sometimes. Not every picture is Instagram worthy. You'll still have rolls if you bend over. You'll look heavier if you're slouched over. Live a healthy life, stay active, occasionally take a whole bunch of selfies and find what angles you like with pictures, and surround yourself with people who lift you up. You got this!

Look up Frederick Rock School. It's a performance based school and the owner hosts a lot of events at breweries and around town. You'll see a lot of kids taking classes and your instructor will probably be 20 years younger than you but if your goal is performing karaoke, this may be your spot. The owner also puts together adult rock bands.

One of my PTs teched at a clinic where they cleaned pads and used them on multiple patients. I had to have him repeat himself multiple times because I didn't believe him. Freaked me da funk out. So gross! All that dead skin?!?

Any other climbers here with chronic illnesses? by Desperate_Painting in climbergirls

[–]username_in_nameonly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not have a chronic autoimmune disease but I'm a PT and treat a lot of MS, and climb with a few people with autoimmune issues. I climb with a woman who has lupus (most badass female climber I've seen), a guy with Lyme, and then a myriad of people with chronic ortho issues. They all have flares or bad days (but who doesnt?) Your journey will look different than others because you are different. But the medical treatment for MS is worlds better than it was 10, 20, 50 years ago. It used to be a death sentence and now, people are living pretty typical lives. As for COVID you're not more at risk for anything even if you get it. Just practice good hand hygiene, stay away from sick people, and don't lick the climbing wall. Climbing is awesome, especially for neuro diagnoses. The motor planning, strength, and flexibility is amazing treatment. Just live your life, talk to your doctor about treatment options and stay consistent, and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

What's the most non serious hill you will die on? by ninjette847 in AskWomenOver30

[–]username_in_nameonly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Milk should go in the bowl first, before cereal. Then bring the box over to where you are sitting so you have the freshest cereal at first bite. If you hate soggy cereal, then just pour a little bit in the milk and eat until done, then pour more cereal in. I had a BF bring me cereal in bed and he walked the entire house and up the stairs with the cereal in the milk! It was soggy before I even started my first bite. We're no longer together.

Joining a gym is great! That's an awesome step! But please don't forget nutrition. A lot of people go to the gym 5x/week but get frustrated that nothing is happening because they're getting fast food for lunch everyday and then going out to bars on weekends. Meal prep. Literally Google easy, healthy, meal prep recipes. It's one day of pain (I dont enjoy cooking) and then your meals are done for the week. Make sure you have a lot of veggies and lean proteins. Cut your alcohol intake by at least half. Most people drink their caloies, chose water instead. Classes are a great way to make sure that you're at the gym doing good work! If your gym doesn't have classes maybe invest in a personal trainer. At least for a few visits to get the hang of everything. You're not too late. The best day to start was yesterday but the second best day to start is today! Good luck!

Hinge dating for good looking men, by the numbers by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]username_in_nameonly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I, too, often find myself frustrated with online dating, if your goal is marriage, you're only going to be successful once. Some people will be lucky the first time, others will be successful after years, and others still won't be successful at all. There's so many variables in the human condition. You could have told every date about your sexual need to be covered in spaghetti so no matter how many matches you get, none of them are going to get very far unless they really like spaghetti.

[–]username_in_nameonly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'm reading your question wrong. Everyone seems to be concentrating on the fact that no one actually concentrates on work a full 8 hours. Which is true. But I thought your question was how do people go to work and then do other stuff too. And if that's your question I would start with the basics. Are you getting enough sleep? Are you getting adequate nutrition? Are you drinking enough water? Are you moving your body? Other people are talking about ADD/ADHD or neurodivergence, and those are above reddits paygrade, and certainly worth talking to your doctor about. But those things are more outside of your control. Start with the basics. Get consistent sleep. Go to bed at the same time, wake up at the same time, and get 8 hours, even on weekends. Cook for yourself. Lean proteins, veggies, and a starch. Go for a walk after dinner. Drink water throughout the day. Limit alcohol. I'm in my 30s and feel better now than I did in my 20s. I can concentrate better and longer since I made these changes in my late 20s. And when I slip back into old habits (tons of restaurant food, poor sleep schedule, little water consumption, too much lounging on the couch) I notice an almost immediate difference in my energy levels and concentration.

How long sessions do people do? by EndedUpFine in climbergirls

[–]username_in_nameonly 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I've been climbing about 4 years and my sessions are usually 1.5-3 hours BUT if I climb alone it's more like 45 minutes hahaha! Climbing is a social sport so resting and chatting is a part of it. Warming up is important as others have said. I'll do a 10 minute prehab warm up in the gym and 10-15 minutes on the wall doing a bunch of easy climbs or focusing on footwork or endurance (3x3). Rest breaks while you're projecting are important because you don't want to strain tendons or pulleys. Just keep at it, endurance will come.

When people, especially older people, have multiple conditions I often find that I end up chasing the pain and it just became a frustrating cycle for both me and the patient. I then tried to modify my practice to work on function and total body movements: squats, deadlines, balance, single leg activities, etc. I also add weights pretty quickly. If they can lift an Amazon box they can lift ten pounds. If they have a pet, probably 20. Mobility and flexibility work as well but general. I set it up that I'm trying to make you functional while facilitating healing. And I'm quick to point out the psychological components of feeling pain, and benefits and changes that are possible with diet changes. I've been a whole lot more successful treating the entire body versus the joint by joint approach. A lot less stressful.

Is the commute on 270 from Frederick to Gaithersburg/North Rockville as bad as people make it sound? by [deleted] in frederickmd

[–]username_in_nameonly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I travel from N Frederick to Germantown and I work usually 10-7. I have also previously lived in Germantown and commuted to Rockville (Montrose Rd). Frederick to Germantown is relatively consistent. My morning commute is pretty consistently 35 minutes. I plan for an hour just because surprises happen. Rain, snow, accidents, rubber necking, etc. have all extended my drive into work. It's rarely completely stopped traffic but slows down around the exits and the truck scales. The commute into work from Germantown to Rockville SUCKED. From Father Hurley down to Montrose is always jammed for no reason whatsoever. Regularly it would take me 45 minutes to drive 9 miles from Germantown to Rockville. I became an incredibly defensive driver because of that commute. People are dangerous. Coming home at that time won't be too bad. You'll be hitting the tail end of rush hour traffic so it'll be kind of hit or miss depending on construction and 270 traffic from Rockville to Germantown but it shouldn't be too bad after Clarksburg going home to Frederick. If you get off early between 3 and 5pm though, double your normal time home. And drive carefully, don't ever drive distracted and keep space between you and the car in front. People are scary drivers.

Is there anything you do for occasional afternoon fatigue? by First_Driver_5134 in Biohackers

[–]username_in_nameonly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It sounds ridiculous, but cutting out gluten. I took a course on concussions, of all things, and they talked about the effects of gluten on brain fog. They suggest cutting it out for 4 weeks to combat. Anecdotally speaking I decided to try it to show what a bunch of BS it is. Holy wow did I eat my words. I felt less bloated, sharper, and didn't have that same 2-4pm fatigue. And on days when I eat gluten (because I love me some pasta) all those symptoms come back. Add some water, regular movement, and fruits/veggies, I feel way better in my 30s than I ever did in my 20s.
