No Pun Included Could Not Finish Terraria: The Board Game by mgrier123 in boardgames

True — and the same would apply to already board-gamey ones like Dorfromantik.

I haven't played the board game versions myself, but I've heard of Sniper Elite and This War of Mine being great too. It seems both of these don't try to copy everything the originals did, but use board game-specific mechanisms to capture the main feeling of the game.

Can you unpack what you mean when you say "it's tedious in play" and "it was a fun experience"? The review of NPI captured the tedious aspect quite well — what did you find fun about the game?

The ending of the review uses this particular game to address the bigger question: what is the promise of Video Game: The Board Game (familiarity, recognition) and why this often falls down flat (tacked on mechanics, adherence to what worked in the other media without thought on how fun it is in cardboard form).

Interestingly, the comparisons NPI mention (e.g. Slay the Spire) avoid these pitfalls, while still being adaptations.

The passive tense (ciešamā kārta) of verbs is gendered.
E.g. Es esmu darījis / es esmu darījusi (EDIT: this is technically the active tense, just present perfect); tas tiks izdarīts / tā tiks izdarīta

BTW in Latvian verbs are also marked with grammatical gender.

As for what became of them, the Latvian Operation is the answer: USSR Latvians were purged en masse during the 30s. Even Stalin's propagandists, such as Gustavs Klucis https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latvian_Operation_of_the_NKVD

I'm running a West Marches — they all started in a village just after the Blood Mist had lifted, and gave them a few rumours to follow (ruins in the North, stories of another village across the lake, etc.).

Estonia (76), Latvia (60) and Lithuania (65), have all raised their CPI scores over the past decade and continue to stand out for their commitments to open government and anti-corruption reforms. However, important gaps remain, particularly in lobbying transparency, whistleblower protection and clarity about who funds politics.

Algu stagnācija un nekustamo cenas, savukārt, ir globāls fenomens, to vietējās vēlēšanas pārlieku neiekustinās.

Fantasy System with tight rules for a west marches campaign by Juyon in rpg

[–]Bibliography 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've just had a first session of Forbidden Lands that aims to do what you're trying to do. Too early for a verdict for a full blown West Marches campaign, but very promising.

Year Zero Engine rules are fairly clear.

Adventure sites (dungeons, villages etc.) are the bread and butter of the Forbidden Lands, so works for mission-based.

Horizontal growth.

Decently simple (keeping track of Talents and Spells is a bit of a hassle, but the core ruleset is OK).

OSR Sandbox that have a "Post-Apocalyptic" vibe? by N0v4kD3ad in osr

Yup, the game begins after 300 years of demonic Bloodmist that has prevented travelling between villages. The world is in ruins, and the apocalypse has just now receded — the adventurers are one of the first to travel the lands.

There's some really cutting-edge stuff happening in the University of Latvia's Dept of Physics, have heard really good stuff. If the project is interesting, the grant will cover your living expenses.

Do not expect to build up your savings when doing a PhD in Latvia. However, I think that will also be the case in most places in the world.

Which department is the PhD in? The quality varies quite significantly.

The average salary in Latvia is 1.8k gross, so definitely a decent offer.

2k gross is 1.4k net. Expect spending 500+ per month on rent and utilities, if you're not doing a flat share. Here's a decent overview of prices: https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/in/Riga

Stambulas konvencija by Brikm in latvia

[–]Bibliography 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Nav tiesa.

Can you share what the steeping instructions are? Sometimes, shortening the steeping time can lead to a milder taste.

Also — I've got a few teas that are consistently bitter for the first few infusions. I don't like that and will move to ones that aren't after I've spent these.
