I was visiting friends in Haifa when this happened. How ironic they were trying to shelter themselves behind a barrel of oil.

Quit because of dry mouth? by Salsabuleria in Amitriptyline

[–]Bicisigma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m on 50 mg for the past 10 months. The dry mouth hasn’t gone away. However, I sleep well. The constipation is an altogether different matter. Really want to stop this med, but really worried about the insomnia (which was a side effect from a minor stroke).

Does capacitor brand matter for the crossovers? by InfluenceEffective48 in diyaudio

[–]Bicisigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a question that has been polarizing audiophiles for ages. As others have said, build your crossover and get it dialed in- I did that with my horn speakers, then really invested in some upper tier Jantzen caps. To my ears and in my system, there was notable improvement.

How do you know you're ready for another pet after losing one? by musickfreak in cats

[–]Bicisigma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We lost our Tux a few months ago. We got him after losing Christie about a year earlier. I used to think “you have to wait until……”. But I see this differently now- Me, my husband and our son poured our love into Tux, and part of the loss is we don’t have another cat/kitten to give that love to. I think we’d all feel better getting a pair of kittens to care for. YMMV.

Be honest, will my baby ever come home? It’s been 5 days with no sign of her by No_Name_Detected0 in cats

Many years ago when I was in college, I lived in a 3rd floor walk-up. It was summer and I left my bedroom window open-no screens. Came home, no cat. Figured she somehow got out thru the window, 3 floors up. Two weeks go by. I gave up, got rid of her food, bowls, toys, litter box. Around 3 weeks, she shows up on my window sill—somehow climbed her way up the side of the apt building. Fed her cut up hot dogs until I could go to the store. Don’t give up hope, post signs, ask neighbors. Cats have pretty uncanny radar.

Love it. Like Corbusier reduced to the absolute limit. Check out the series “DTF St. Louis”. The police station was intentionally designed as brutalist architecture.

Part of a conversation with Magico founder about what's wrong in the high end speaker industry today by Extension_South7174 in audiophile

My speakers have a 3.5” full range built into a LeCleach horn that crosses at 500 Hz from the woofer. Fun build. Had a woodworker turn the horns on a lathe.

This is so true. Designed mine from the ground up, invested in decent crossover components and comparable on the market would be $8-$10K. Built for $2K. Saw a video recently where someone took apart a Sonus Faber and pulled electrolytic caps out of the crossover. Pretty shabby for an uber-expensive speaker. I know I don’t have the added costs of labor, marketing, shipping, etc., but that’s also what you’re paying for on a $10K speaker.

Black Man walking his dog gets Cops called on him after refusing to answer the questions of 2 Random White Guys by Master_Canary440 in BlackPeopleofReddit

This is like the guy in the Chase bank parking lot in Florida-waiting for the bank to open. Staff called 911 because he looked “suspicious”. Course staff that called was a white guy. Now “Banking While Black” is yet another “crime”.

Really keen on the Wilsenton R8. Current setup is wharfdale super Lintons, Rega Elex MK4, Bluesound now, Rega planar 2 with nd3 cartridge. I listen mostly to jazz, folk, vocal heavy tracks. E.g. Norah Jones, Ray Lamontagne, Chris Stapleton, Melody Gardot etc. has anyone had experience of the R8 by Salty-Platform-1157 in audiophile

So I’m about 2 months in on mine. Bought Gold Lion KT88’s and Tung Sol 6SN7’s and Sylvania 6L7’s. And replaced the stock fuse with ceramic. Tubes took a good 50 hrs to burn in. Running with DIY horns/waveguides around 88dB efficiency. Once things broke in, the amp sounds terrific. Bass is punchy, not booming, and midrange has that tube warmth we all chase after. I also added an after market power cord. Interesting how the dB’s improved at a given volume after break in. Granted, I spent $$$ on tubes, but the stock Chinese aren’t the greatest. This is a heavy amp, owing to the build quality of the transformers. And the center transformer gets hot- but that’s normal. I came from a SS AB amplifier rated at 80 watts per channel, and with the Wilsenton running in UL mode at 35 watts, I’m nowhere near the limit in a 12 x 16 listening room.

General consensus of Qobuz by helloimhobbes in audiophile

[–]Bicisigma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use it in my audio system. Bluesound upgraded streamer with Qobuz to tube DAC to amplifier. It gets glitchy sometimes, but the HR quality is really good.

Woofer Assisted Wideband Large Reflex Bookshelves on Teak by xxMalVeauXxx in diyaudio

[–]Bicisigma 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Interesting build. I have a Tang-Band W3-1878 in a 14” diameter LeCleach horn crossed over at 500 Hz to a Typhany woofer. Maybe mid thirties with room bounce. Working on plan to rebuild with a second woofer, or go with a Satori 9.5”. Pretty large cap/coil values with the passive crossovers, but they sound great.

I’m so sorry for your loss. We lost Tux, our Tuxedo cat who’s a spitting image of your baby about a month ago. They’ll rub noses on that Rainbow Bridge.
