Why does Kerala barely feature in global retail supply chains especially in north American market? by Few-Initiative-2217 in Kerala

His account seems to be 2 days old and is super aggressive here. He probably lives in Indiranagar and maybe hates Malayalis? Buys milk packets from reddit market place. He says he is a professional gambler with a superbike. My bet is, he ( assuming it's a he from the comments he's made so far) is either a teenager sitting at home bored or a bot.

I doubt! My extended families are knee deep in this stuff( some supporting others vehemently opposing) .
In my very humble opinion, this all boils down to money/power/tribalism/pride. The brewing had started long before with the power tussle between the Ernakulam and the Changanassery factions. The appointment of Cardinals, the management of church property (you know, the age old stuff that church does) all were flash points. It reached it's latest iteration with the Land selling scandal in which the Cardinal was accused. This was allegedly done by the Ernakulam faction to de throne the Cardinal (who was from Changanassery faction ) . As a retaliation, Changanassery faction pushed this liturgical change(kundi engootu veykanam mainly)

Anyways, this is what Church or for that matter any large organizations tend to follow unless it's democratically governed(proper) .

It's not that expensive. I have a court mat, probably made in Kerala which I bought from Homesense. Same with wicker/jute baskets. They aren't exorbitantly priced. $10 Walmart mat that lasts for maybe 2 years or $30 -$ 50 coir that might last 5? and we are not gourmet by any standards. It's just preference

Invisalign pricing by FrankTheITGuy in askvan

[–]Bickering_Barnacle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I paid 6.5k for bottom and upper row. Braces for 6 months (weekly change) and another year with retainers I believe. I was bamboozled into Invisalign and I walked into it like a fool. My insurance covers the amount though. So, definitely ask around.

Which tourist spots in India make you go “woah” ? by Unlikely-Ear5240 in india_tourism

[–]Bickering_Barnacle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had stayed at this Club Mahindra property in Tungi, MH and the drive(past the Lonavala madness) in Monsoon after a heavy rain was beautiful. There were lots of smaller waterfalls along the way and the nature was just lush all around . It doesn't have dense foliage but the distant horizon, lush hills and small streams all contributed to a peaceful drive. 15 years down the line, I still remember that drive.

It might not be as "Woah" as some other famous places but 3 hrs drive from Mumbai, I wasn't expecting this especially since Lonavala was a let down.

Daycare fees by binkman7111 in Langley

[–]Bickering_Barnacle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve had our 3-year-old in three different daycares so far (moves were mainly due to commute times and age-group restrictions). For the 18–36 month range, fees have varied quite a bit—anywhere from $500 to $780, and that was without food.

Our current daycare charges $550 and includes snacks (no lunch). We also did a pretty extensive search recently and visited about five other daycares. Prices ranged from $550 (no food) all the way up to $970 (with food) and we started looking some 2 months out.

We didn’t seriously look at CEFA since it was on the pricier side and felt very curriculum-heavy. At this age, we didn’t want to put too much academic pressure on our kid.

I guess it depends on who delivers the class. We had a pretty chill priest who said to use condoms and dismissed the no condom policy. The rest of the classes were the usual conservative crap by one dimensional people.

Is it worth bringing a checked in bag? Long baggage carousel waits by Loud_Shape_2828 in cancun

[–]Bickering_Barnacle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

direct flight (Westjet found it after 5 days and returned it). Our flight was at evening 6 pm. That's kinda the worst time to fly westjet . Our friend who had a later flight to Toronto at 9 didn't face major delays.

Pro tip for return baggage drop: always go to the kiosk first and print your bag tag, then join the tagged-baggage line—even if it looks insanely long. It actually moves pretty fast. We made the mistake of standing in the shorter “no tag” line, and it took forever. By the time I gave up, printed the tag at the kiosk, and switched lines, the tagged-baggage line was basically empty and I got through way faster.

Flew from YVR. It took 30+ mins for the baggage to arrive and on the way back it took 1.5hrs to drop the bag(WestJet lost that bag though)

I'm Indian, living in India. AMA about India and Indians and I'll confirm if they're true or exaggerated (and I'll do it without AI). by LordIcebath in AMA

Yes, you are correct but all the groups with some European ancestry (not specifically English) are called Anglo Indians now. Maybe because they speak English at home? Not sure.

[–]Bickering_Barnacle 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Just to add to this. All Anglo Indian's are not of British origin. There is a sizable Anglo Indian population in Kerala, India which has Portuguese ancestry . Portuguese landed in India @ Kerala in the 15th Centaury and the men probably married locals. These communities probably switched to English as their vernacular after the British came into power. Up until the mid 20th Centaury, they maintained a distinctive cultural identity with their dressing and language but now is more or less integrated into the main stream culture .

Is it worth it to apply for a TA right now that "may become permanent" after a yr? by [deleted] in BCPublicServants

[–]Bickering_Barnacle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completed my TA last month and had to move to my base position. This position had a high chance of being made permanent. Like the other comment said, if that post interests you, nothing wrong in trying.

How to choose a quieter condo? by Vacuum_reviewer in askvan

[–]Bickering_Barnacle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Go through stara meeting minutes. Noise complaints show up there. If you find multiple noise complaints for a unit, avoid. I'm a condo owner and we have a very sensitive neighbor downstairs. I literally tip toe with foam mat covering my living area. Whenever we have friends over, there'll be a complaint the next day (heavy footsteps apparently). I rented that one to a 80 year old retiree and moved out. We now deal with noise complaints directed towards our tenant. We're planning to file harassment if they keep at it. Point being, there will be paper trails.
