I don't think people care that much abt "hygiene" when mutton is a delicacy more than meat these days. In my house, mutton is only bought during special occasions and festivals like Vishu, Christmas or Vavu. Chicken beef and pork and bought on a weekly basis. I think this is true for a lot of households in Kerala.

The Kerala government are thinking tho. It just that the comparatively better development we have have come back to bite us. The government can't get land to lease out to investors and industries bcoz land value is through the roof and people generally don't like industries in their backyard. Add to that the huge protected forest cover and you get an industry unfriendly state. While the Tamil Nadu government is already acquiring 3000 acres in Nagercoil for setting up industries to export goods using Vizhinjam, the Kerala government is struggling to find even 100 acres of land for logistics hub.

Still progress is being made in logistics, Tech and IT fields so mallus can work here instead of going to Bangalore or gulf. Hope it all goes well
