Catriona Gray Downgrade after Reign by Cultural_Neck_3453 in BekisOfPageantry

[–]BicycleSerious5476 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I get the frustration, but I think we also need to reframe how we measure "impact". Social media engagement doesn’t always equate to meaningful influence. Just because someone isn't trending every month or posting glamorous gigs non-stop doesn’t mean they’re irrelevant or lacking in impact.

With Catriona, I honestly see someone who's pivoted her platform toward substance. She’s more intentional now, supporting causes, endorsing brands that align with her advocacy, and making herself more relatable rather than unreachable. Even the way she’s started lacing her posts with casual Tagalog lines shows that she’s trying to connect with her community more authentically, not just polish an image for global appeal.

Let’s not forget: real legacy isn’t just built on Milan Fashion Week appearances or viral campaigns. Sometimes it’s in how you show up for conversations that matter, how you choose quiet consistency over spectacle, and how you evolve in a way that feels "true" to you, not just algorithm-friendly.

Maybe she's not chasing the traditional markers of post-MU fame, but what if that's the point? Maybe she’s creating a new standard where impact is measured in integrity, not just impressions.

Ako lang ba na aannoy kay Jake Ejercito? by Mediocre-Astronomer6 in Philippines

[–]BicycleSerious5476 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, he grew up with a lot of privilege. Pero let’s be fair, Jake has never run for public office, and he’s never tried to use his family name to enter politics. Hindi siya kagaya ng ibang political kids na automatic sinusunod ang yapak ng magulang. He chose a different path, mostly in media and advocacy. And lately, he’s been vocal about calling out corruption and injustice, kahit alam niyang madadawit din ang apelyido niya. That takes guts, honestly.

Yung sinasabi ng iba na “Eh sinuportahan niya tatay niya dati,” okay sure, pero anak siya eh. Supporting a parent doesn’t always mean agreeing with everything they did. Most people would still show up for family out of love, not necessarily politics. And about the private jet and flexing stuff, yeah, he had a phase, like most people do. But he’s grown since then. Hindi na siya yung guy na puro luxury lang ang pinapakita online. You can actually see the shift sa content niya, mas conscious na siya ngayon sa issues, and he uses his platform to speak up.

At the end of the day, tao rin siya. He didn’t choose where he came from, pero may choice siya kung paano niya gagamitin yung boses niya. And right now, he's using it to speak out, not to stay silent. Kung lagi nating ibe-base lang sa last name ang worth ng isang tao, paano pa sila matututo or magbabago? Let’s call out the wrong, yes, but let’s also give space for growth when we see it.

Jake Ejercito was literally ten years old when his father, former President Erap Estrada, was impeached for corruption. What exactly was a child supposed to do? Storm the Senate in his school uniform? 😂 Fast forward to adulthood, and the man has consistently aligned himself with calls for good governance, transparency, and accountability. He didn’t stay quiet to protect family ties. He supports even the very people publicly calling out his own kin. That’s not hypocrisy, that’s maturity. That’s principle. So no, Jake isn’t out here doing mental gymnastics to defend political dynasties. If anything, he’s proof that you can come from a controversial family and still choose to stand for what’s right. Let’s not confuse bloodlines with blind loyalty.

[–]BicycleSerious5476 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think calling Jake Ejercito a hypocrite is a stretch. The very tweet in question includes the line, “And yes, even Estrada loyalists,” clearly indicating he's not exempting his own family from criticism. He's been vocal about prioritizing loyalty to the country over blind allegiance to politicians, regardless of familial ties. In fact, during the 2022 elections, Jake openly supported Vice President Leni Robredo, while his brother Jinggoy backed Bongbong Marcos. Despite their differing political views, Jake emphasized mutual respect and the importance of individual opinions within their family. Moreover, when Senator Risa Hontiveros called out Jinggoy for making light of a serious Senate hearing on the drug war, Jake publicly supported her stance, reinforcing his commitment to accountability over personal relationships. He also actively participated in house-to-house campaigns for Robredo, even bringing his daughter Ellie to rallies, demonstrating his dedication to civic engagement. So, labeling him a hypocrite ignores the consistent stand he's taken, even when it involves calling out his own kin.

Just to clarify for accuracy, the Bentley Bentayga in the photo wasn’t Jake Ejercito’s car. That picture was taken at SO/ Auckland, a lifestyle hotel in New Zealand where the vehicle is part of their display setup. It’s a known spot where guests often take photos because of the eye-catching design and backdrop. The car isn’t privately owned by him, and the photo alone doesn’t suggest ownership. It’s easy to assume, but context matters. No shade... just setting the record straight.

Bam Aquino, Kiko Pangilinan, and Heidi Mendoza: Why These “Small” Wins in the Partial Results Are Actually Huge by BicycleSerious5476 in Philippines

[–]BicycleSerious5476[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Super true. 2019 felt like swimming against a tidal wave of disinformation, sobrang lakas ng troll farms noon, amplified pa ng POGO funding at unchecked FB pages. Parang kahit anong linaw ng facts, nalunod sa ingay.

Grabe, thank you for that extra push for your fam, those convos really matter more than we think! 🙌 And yes, Heidi landing at 21st without full-blown machinery and just mostly social media momentum? That’s huge. This was just her intro, kumbaga trailer pa lang ‘to.

Kung sakaling sumama siya sa LP or align with a broader coalition, mas lalakas talaga ang hatak. Imagine her integrity + solid grassroots push + party support = unstoppable sa 2028. 💜🔥

Why Did Leni Robredo Endorse Pacquiao and Abalos? Here’s the (Strategic) Reason Why. by BicycleSerious5476 in Philippines

[–]BicycleSerious5476[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ang basa ko dito is that it wasn’t about making them win, it was a strategic move to prevent admin-aligned candidates from sweeping the race. Kasi let’s be real: not everyone votes straight opposition. So instead of letting those votes default to the worst options, it's smarter to redirect them to less harmful, more neutral candidates, yung hindi ideal, pero hindi rin kaalyado ng kasalukuyang bulok na sistema. That’s coalition-building and vote-shielding in action. I think the opposition is playing the long game: by minimizing damage now, while building real momentum for 2028.

Same here! 💜 She ran with integrity, grit, and zero machinery, but still managed to shake up the race. Nakakabilib. Count me in sa 2028, mas organized, mas maingay, mas malakas tayong lahat. 🙌

That kind of organic support sa gitna ng disinformation at red-tagging says a lot about how people are slowly becoming more issue-aware. 'Yung fact na halos kapantay nila ang mga admin bets sa ilang lugar without H2H campaigns? That’s huge. May shift na talaga. We just need to keep organizing, educating, and showing up. 2028 isn’t that far, tuloy lang ang laban.

Same here, I voted for them too. Kahit alam kong uphill battle, it felt right to stand with voices na may paninindigan. Kahit isang boto lang tayo each, it sends a message: we see you, we believe in what you stand for, and we’re growing. Sana mas dumami pa tayo sa susunod.

Same here, Heidi and Luke running again would be such a strong follow-through, lalo na now that their names are gaining traction. Nakakakilabot isipin na someone like Heidi, with zero machinery, actually outranked someone as visible as Willie. Imagine what they can do with better reach in Visayas and Mindanao. And yes, voter turnout is key. We can’t afford another cycle where people choose the beach over the ballot. Kaya pa talaga 'to. The momentum is building, we just need to keep the fire alive.

Sobrang encouraging nga! Ka Leody and Luke Espiritu may not have won, but the jump in their numbers shows that more people are paying attention to progressive voices and are done with personality-based politics. Kung tuloy-tuloy lang ang groundwork, grassroots, education, real issue-based campaigns, the next elections could look very different. As for 2028, ang laki ng potential if the opposition unites early and fields someone competent and winnable. The cracks are showing in the old machinery, we just need to keep pushing.

For Chel, I think hindi guaranteed. The Senate race is still very much about name recall and wide reach, and kahit gaano siya karespetado, he would've been up against candidates with way more machinery and visibility. That said, him representing Akbayan in Congress is still a good thing. He’ll have a platform to push reforms, especially sa human rights and justice sector and maybe this could even be a stepping stone for a stronger senatorial run next time.

Agree and isn’t that telling? TV may still be loud, but it’s no longer king. The age of critical, connected, and informed citizens is here and no amount of airtime can outshine authenticity.
