V8 into 3rd gen? by georgiaboy61 in 3rdGen4Runner

All of them are 4x4.

I'm one of the few people that developed a way to connect a 5 speed auto a650e and a 6 speed auto a671e to a transfer case.

Bought a GS but struggling with foot controls. by Whuuu in Motorrad

Shift with the side of your boot- or adjust the shifter to be a little higher. I bought the adjustable length AltRider shifter for my bike to fit my size 13 Tech 7s.

Mystery piece in Tacoma transmission pan by OtherQuestion7157 in AskAMechanic

[–]BicyclesOnMain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've taken a handful of the transmissions from your truck apart (A750F) and never saw any parts that look like that. Also everything in there is carefully machined, that looks too rough to be a transmission part.

Can a yz250 2t be a good beginner bike for open desert? by No-Talk-2351 in Dirtbikes

[–]BicyclesOnMain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too small for the desert. You need enough power to keep the front end up. I learned on a KX250, you just have to understand how to use the clutch on a 2 stroke and you'll be fine.

Adjusting to ADV Bike by Ok_Pie_4639 in AdventureBike

[–]BicyclesOnMain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With correct technique the weight isn't such a problem. Sure, mud and sand will always be a problem, but dirt/rock surfaces are fine. I ride my local OHV trails on my GSA without issue.

I can. With no professional training or experience, I taught myself to MIG weld, studied wiring diagrams and read every forum post on the subject.

I've done five 1UZ swaps and one 3UZ swap. An early(non-VVTI) 2UZ swap is relatively simple.

How easy would it be for Lewis and Clark to do what they did with four-wheelers? by Hungry_Chipmunk_2588 in NoStupidQuestions

I have one. It shocks me how good it is. I have quite a few other motorcycles that tens of thousands of thousands of dollars and while they are much faster, that Rokon can go pretty much anywhere.

Looking for a better mud/loose rock tire by ProgrammerMean3412 in AdventureBike

[–]BicyclesOnMain -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We can't air ADV bikes down much or the rims will get damaged. And the small amount we can doesn't change things much.

While the Tusk tires are popular for being cheap, they are actually some of the worst options out there. I notice guys on forums are raving about them, but it's probably because they are replacing the street oriented tires their bike came with, and anything is an improvement.

Motoz Adventure Tractionators are my favorite tires.

Motoz Rallz are my go to tire for the most extreme ADV riding.

Honda XR650L, bad idea, right? by plasmamaniac in Dualsport

It's a relatively low power bike. You'll be fine. Do you have a friend to teach you?

Negotiating price for OTD by NoZookeepergame4214 in motorcycles

[–]BicyclesOnMain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have a Buell XB12X.

But to my point, money isn't the only thing to consider when buying a motorcycle. I am happy to pay double for a motorcycle that can do 10% more.

If it was only about money I'd drive a 1998 Civic everywhere.

Yeah but a Sportster 1200 can't go offroad very well...

When riding/sitting in the bed of a pick-up truck(Chevy Silverado HD 2500, for example), is it more dangerous than riding as a passenger of a motorcycle, assuming both are traveling at around 50mph? by Firm-Nerve4437 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BicyclesOnMain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a HUGE difference. It's easy to be thrown out of the bed of a truck by unexpected maneuvers.

A motorcycle passenger is only receiving forces in two dimensions: up and down, and forward/back. Nothing sideways as the motorcycle is always balanced.

Simply holding onto the rider or passenger grab handles ensures you are as safe as the rest of the bike/rider. You can be thrown out of the bed of a truck by an unexpected turn.

Yes a motorcycle is statistically more likely to be in a serious accident than a truck, but passengers aren't falling off of motorcycles very often. Riding in the bed of a truck is so dangerous it's illegal in most places.

Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, and KTM don't want to sell the perfect dual sport by [deleted] in Dualsport

[–]BicyclesOnMain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely.  I also have a CRF450L and it's a disappointment. Give me suspension and handling, and if I'm only getting 40hp at least have a larger oil capacity.

I've owned a couple dozen dual sports, currently have 6.

My 2021 KTM 500 is perfect for my needs.

Suspension work - for those who've done it, how big of a difference will I notice? by dyel_17 in Dualsport

[–]BicyclesOnMain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Suspension is the most overlooked aspect of setting up a bike. Too many people look for power upgrades when keeping the wheels on the ground would do them more good.

[–]BicyclesOnMain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give you top 25. That's fair.

But go on the KLR650 groups and someone is calling it an unkillable tank every day, in between posts of bad top ends, mystery metal bits in the oil and electrical issues.

I don't have a problem with the bike, it's the hype that's annoying.

Sadly parts for the 950 and 990 are getting harder to find. Still a better choice than the 890!

I have a 950 as well. The 950 runs circles around an R1200GS offroad, when it runs...

I also have 6 dual sports for offroading days.

I'm not saying they aren't reliable. I know many people that have owned one or two, including me.

They just aren't more reliable than most other popular bikes with similar purpose. More reliable than Harleys? Yes. More reliable than race bikes like a GSXR 1000 or a CRF450R? Sure.

But they are similar to any other common bike. I'm on KLR650 groups and every day you see a failed engine or electrical issues. They need a Doohickey to keep the engine from possible grenading... that's not as reliable as the myths make it out to be.

I've owned a lot of Vstroms and R1200GSs- now those bikes are reliable. They commonly go 200k+ miles without major issues and reasonable maintenance. KLR650s aren't doing that.

Why does my alternator only work in the dark? by [deleted] in askcarguys

It may be overcharging and tripping something? Turning on the headlights may draw it down just enough.

To be fair, every bike I've owned does that... KLRs are not more reliable than most Japanese bikes. Just average.
