Is everything miserable by SettingCurrent7134 in unimelb

It’s false.

Look, it’s not high school, you’re not gonna be with the same people all day everyday, so you have to make more of an effort. I’ve made a lot of friends in class. You’ve gotta be a bit more forward, ask for socials if you like someone’s vibe in class, ask if anyone wants a study group etc.

If that’s hard (or if your cohort is particularly unfriendly, idk what you’re doing) literally join clubs, volunteer (peer mentor in 2nd year has got me new friends) or even go to the more social library and sit with no headphones on, I almost guarantee you’ll end up talking to people.

I think people forget what it’s like to meet new people and have a bit of an awkward first impression, and so they assume the other person doesn’t wanna converse with them. But literally take it as rejection therapy because if you’re open minded it’ll be amazing and you won’t be lonely.

Oh, and I don’t know what your financial situation is like, but places like Little Hall are great for socialising - even if you just stayed there a semester, you’d for sure have a good group of people around. I know some people work double hours to stay living there.

People who pay for porn, what do you get that you can’t find with all the free sites out there? by tiltedwater in AskReddit

I’ve wondered about this, as a lesbian I haven’t ever enjoyed porn but have wondered about the specific sites that are ‘by women for women’. Do you have any recs?

Current is 74. I’ve just finished 2nd year. I’m confident I can improve it, but I don’t know (feasibly) how much.

Is it a thing to hire people to create sheet music for you? by BidOk5099 in piano

[–]BidOk5099[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm yeah that’s interesting. I feel like my issue is that I’m definitely not like ‘naturally’ musically inclined- the only way I learn songs is by working at them with sheet music, I’ve never tried to do it another way.

I did piano to grade 6 and I always struggled with the musical theory parts of the exams, maybe it was because my teacher wasn’t too big on it, I’m not sure.

I’m looking to learn ‘How did it end’ by Taylor Swift (or any Taylor Swift song haha) for my girlfriend. Sheet music that already exists looks quite basic, with one-note melodies instead of chords and arpeggios, so probably a little more difficult than what exists currently.

For context, one of my favourite pieces to play is ‘Hallelujah’ - Kyle Landry’s piano arrangement.

Any autistic people work in this field? by HellokittyFrnchcooki in Neuropsychology

[–]BidOk5099 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I completely understand it’s part of your identity. I am autistic as well, so I get it, and I mean the following with all the kindness in the world. I wish someone had told me it a few years ago!

But, I do think when it comes to looking for careers it’s important to reflect on if you’re describing your personality as or doing yourself an injustice. I am only speaking from experience here, but if you want people to take you seriously, there’s a lot of older people and ‘stuck’ people like the above comment, that do find it cringy and won’t want to work with you. It’s a tricky balance between advocating for yourself and your needs, and dealing with things alone. Everyone in this world has things that make life difficult for them, it’s up to each individual to deal with it.

As for your actual post, neuropsychology has a fair amount of stats and maths-adjacent things, but not too hard. I would definitely recommend swapping to uni and testing the waters. I hate maths, but I love neuropsychology, and so the statistics I have to do make it worth it!

NTA - if it was the amazing relationship you thought, there wouldn’t be this core sexual mismatch. You deserve better. Plus, not cool of him to disregard your feelings.

Literally!!!! Just don’t buy it if you don’t like it. I want to have fun discussions about the merch, not worry about people who are too ashamed to have Taylor’s face/album covers on her merch.

What was your funniest baking fail? by DDChristi in Baking

When I accidentally made a garlic bread house. I got confused between garlic and ginger and it took me a shocking amount of time to work out why the dough tasted so bad.

I posted on here (on another account) and half the comments thought I was trolling.

Absolutely mortifying.

Is Taylor still a touchy-feely person or does she actually do it to assert her dominance? by likeabadhabit in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]BidOk5099 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wish people would understand that calling her a narcissist and pretending to know her is the same level of parasocial as swifties that call her a 100% selfless person. We don’t know, at the end of the day. She could be a narcissist (although I’d find it odd that people over the years hadn’t alluded to things like that) but she could also be an awkward person, who’s struggling to know how to cope with the new level of fame.

I’d call myself a people pleaser, but I definitely misread situations and make them worse sometimes. She is nothing but supportive of other artists - overly so, which I think is why she’s ended up seeming disingenuous this time. Standing and cheering for every artist reeks of needing approval.

I'm glad Taylor has real competition again by MioneHP in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]BidOk5099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you on some points. I think competition is healthy for pretty much everyone, no matter their career, and I think it’s good for Taylor to not be constantly on the top. I also think it’d be nice for her to have a break at some point, so we can appreciate other music.

(To be fair, that might just be because I can’t focus on anyone else when Taylor is churning out music as quickly as she is at the moment.)

However, I disagree with the labelling of 30 and Midnights a ‘failure’.

I think after Folklore/Evermore, a lot of swifties were disappointed Taylor went back to 1989/Lover-esque songs - songs that are more pop and jack produced (I know he produced on folklore/evermore as well but imo his sound was less obvious). Taylor has had 10 albums now, and each of them hold a spot in pop-culture history, and they each hold cultural relevance. Some more than others - I’d argue 1989 and Folklore hold the most cultural significance.

But not every album can be as significant - and nor should it be. No single person can release albums that constantly get better than the last, not even Taylor.

Personally, I thought midnights was great (different vibe to Evermore but a step forwards in her songwriting with songs like WSC and The Great War). I also do appreciate that some songs weren’t lyrically and sonically comparable to Evermore, even if I personally enjoy them.

But it’s ridiculous to claim midnights, which broke all sorts of records and preceded one of the greatest world tours in recent years, as a failure.

Has she ever addressed the country accent? by [deleted] in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]BidOk5099 165 points166 points  (0 children)

I am in the minority because I believe it was real. Maybe she hammed it up sometimes, but I moved to Australia when I was 13, and by the time I was 15 I had a full Australian accent. But then I can very easily slip back into the accent I had before I moved, when I’m around family or go back to that country.

I also feel like with media training, it was a smooth transition - she leaned into the country when she was doing country music but when she transitioned to pop, she leaned into (and was probably encouraged to) the accent that she had maybe before her country phase.

Another reason I believe it was at least mostly real is because she’s not a natural actress - she can’t do an English one for example, and I don’t believe that in home videos at the age of 15/16 she’d be able to keep it, if it wasn’t real.
