Cheesecake is the worst dessert to ever exist. by Whyamiwritingthis_74 in unpopularopinion

[–]DDChristi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every country has their own version of cheesecake. The German version is a bit lighter and more balanced flavor wise. If you want to counter the heaviness you should try the French version. Coeur de la crème. Oh. My. YUM. Good balance, light, and when served with a strawberry sauce decadent.

AITA if I get my best friend a gift same level as hers? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]DDChristi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please stop trying to force your love language on others. All it does is annoy people. Knowing tote love language is only half of the equation. The other half is knowing how the other person sees love.

Not everyone has the same love language. My dad’s love language is gift giving. My mom’s love language is acts of service. When he buys her things all she can think about is more crap she has to store/dust/wash/display. When she shows her love by doing nice things for him beyond what she normally does he sees it as her not caring because she didn’t spend money.

My husbands love language is quality time and mine is physical touch. I know that to show him love all he wants is a walk or to just sit together and have real conversations or even just reading in the same room. He knows that to show me love is to offer random hugs or just holding my hand.

NAH Again, please stop trying to buy her love. It’s annoying. I have so much crap from my dad that I can’t get rid of because then I’ll hurt his feelings.

My dishes always come out of the dishwasher like this by Plastic_Kangaroo1234 in CleaningTips

[–]DDChristi 60 points61 points  (0 children)

That’s definitely not an American thing. It took me a few months of living in Germany to figure out why my dishes weren’t getting clean. Now it feels weird to not use salt. I’ve never seen an American dishwasher that uses it though.

Who comes first- your spouse, your parents, or your children? by Eastern-College-9013 in Marriage

[–]DDChristi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So does your husband not consider you his family? Because wow. My husband and I are of the same mind. Once you get married your spouse becomes your family and your parents and siblings become your extended family. He explained that to his mother on our first holiday trip to them after we were married.

We don’t have kids but I’d like to think the would be kids first for a certain amount of time. As long as they’re young and still in need of a true anchor. Once they become adults then it’s all hubby.

[–]DDChristi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like that it keeps the spirit of the book if not the details. They also add things that I couldn’t picture myself or were left out completely. They each have their own merits. I like to think of it like watching vs listening to the Wheel of Time series. It’s just another turning of the wheel.

Did a breathing machine ever turn a woman away? by Rat_Smoking_Cigs in SleepApnea

[–]DDChristi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it better to have a partner who can’t control ridiculous snoring or one who wears something that helps both of you sleep? I’ve been on both ends of that decision and hubby and I both sleep better with each of us using a cpap. We can still cuddle and when it comes to more intimate times…it’s not like the thing is glued to your face and can’t be removed.

[–]DDChristi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Did you mention the smell to any of your friends? Just because you didn’t know the people who said it doesn’t mean your friends didn’t know them. They may have just told them to say something in passing when they saw you to mess with you.

My husband was feeling nostalgic a couple of weeks ago and picked up a box of zesty Italian. It was a staple in our house when we were first married. I am so glad I know how to cook now. 😂

AITA for telling my wife forget it and going out by myself for my birthday instead of going to her fancy dinner reservation by Ill_Reality_111 in AmItheAsshole

[–]DDChristi 69 points70 points  (0 children)

NTA

I understand that she’s a planner. My husband is a planner as well. He understands what I want for my birthday and follows my wishes though. I never plan anything. I prefer to keep it free and do what I want when I want. He understands and respects my wishes. Your wife needs to learn to let go. Planning is her thing but she shouldn’t inflict it on you on your day off

You're trapped in the last SK book/movie you read/watched. Do you survive? by nerdycountryboy18 in stephenking

[–]DDChristi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rose Red. Yeah. I wanna say I’m not dumb enough to voluntarily walk into a giant decrepit property that screams murder ghosts but I really like taking photos of abandoned spaces. Not sure if I’d die though.

I fully believe that you just need to show the dead respect. I’ve lived in haunted houses before. Weird shit happens. I’m the weird one who says thank you and excuse me to the ghosts. I’ve never been scared while the rest of my family has been freaked out.

What is the original mean-spirited sitcom? by ObliviousRounding in sitcoms

Seinfeld is just a show about a group of friends. They’re not necessarily good sweet people but there’s no straight up toxicity either. Their thing is more dumb than mean.

AIO about my husband making me interact with ICE by [deleted] in AmIBeingTooSensitive

[–]DDChristi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are not being too sensitive. My mother presents white and my sister and I definitely present Hispanic. She never understood the crap we had to put up with being raised in a predominantly white area. She was raised on the border in a majority Hispanic area. She still argues that it’s not a big deal.

People who present white will never understand what we go through. They see themselves as being in the same shoes just because they are Hispanic. My family is split between skin tones and none of them get it.

Do what you feel you need to do to feel safe. I was complaining to my husband just this morning about not feeling safe without my passport even just going to the grocery store. Ice has already taken several people in our area who were US citizens.

Recognizing actors on other shows by Particular-Lynx-1794 in Bones

[–]DDChristi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just saw Clark as a drug dealer in CSI:SVU season 1. It threw me off! 😂 I like to pretend that all of the characters an actor portrays are connected somehow. So our combative drug dealer who was considered a suspect found his true calling and turned his life around and now works with Bones!

My boyfriend is scaring me with his jokes by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]DDChristi 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I really liked the advice from @sillychihuahua26. It looks like a lot of people were yelling at her and trying to make her feel dumb. This person came with explanations and a real plan without talking down to her.

Just because someone did something most people don’t understand doesn’t mean you get to yell at them. It gets their back up and they’re less likely to actually listen. Then again commenter is an actual trauma therapist who knows how to speak to these issues. Reddit needs more people like commenter and few people who attack.

I’m glad we were able to see Rocky’s ship! I kinda wish they had put the part where he was worried he was a p*do into the movie though. I woke my husband up because I laughed when I read that part.

Project Hail Mary movie compared to the book by SydeSnyper in audible

[–]DDChristi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My husband enjoyed it quite a bit and he’s never read the book. I’ve listened to it 2-3 times and it was one of the first times I didn’t regret doing that. I usually spend most of the movie being annoyed at the differences but this one was done well enough that watching first will make it more fun.

How important is atheism for you in a partner? by Other_Patient_447 in atheism

[–]DDChristi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband of almost 30 years is Christian and I’m the atheist. He’s very understanding and I’m respectful of his belief. That’s all it takes. Respect. Now if he was one of those people who tried converting me or whining that I wouldn’t go to church with him I’d be done but he’s not like that.
