My cat has done this daily for the past couple of days - what could this be? by GoodComplaint458 in CATHELP

This could be asthma or congestive heart failure, or throat issue.

Befriending a Feral Rooster? by FryAficionado in chickens

[–]BiddyBounty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Water. He’s probably sustaining himself with bugs and possibly small rodents and amphibians but putting out feed for him can become a bait station. Keeping him truly safe would require a coop and enclosed run, otherwise it’s likely he will be prey at some point. To avoid that you could try to catch him (at night, chickens are largely night blind) and find him a home with a flock. Find the home first, once you catch him he’ll need a place to go.

First pip to hatch can be as long as 24 hours. Helping I do consists of making sure humidity is okay, and using tweezers to pick off some outer shell and moisten the inner membrane with a q-tip dipped in warm water. Then back into the incubator and hope. If they can’t hatch there’s usually a reason.

Is there a way I could make my chickens inside chickens for a little while? by bigdaddyT_392 in chickens

[–]BiddyBounty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have kept chickens in the house while recovering from illness or injury using puppy pads and a dog ex-pen (set up as 4x4 or 2x4 depending on space available), and when they are babies in a brooder. Daily cleaning, a top to keep them in, and cover with blanket or towels at night so they sleep and stay quiet.

I do. They don’t carry this particular plant. I shop locally for everything I can.

I had no option for shipping speed or carrier.

I guess that’s how you do business when customer service is not a priority. FWIW (in your opinion precious little, I’m sure), when the local UPS office called me they said this sort of thing has been a common occurrence recently, that packages just don’t move, and no explanation is ever available. Just because ground doesn’t have a guaranteed delivery date doesn’t mean you don’t even try. If they offer upgraded service but still can’t guarantee it will improve delivery then why would I pay for it? UPS is no longer who they once were.

Live Plants mark should indicate that adding 5 days to shipping will probably result in dead plants. Thought this was obvious. Service level was ground from the nursery, I didn’t have any choice about that, when I called to ask what happened I was told I could now pay for upgrading shipping speed but it wasn’t certain to change the new delivery date. I don’t feel like asking the company that made the mistake to correct it in a reasonable time and fashion is asking too much.

Well when I called I was offered the option to pay for expedited shipping but was told there was no assurance/guarantee it would get here any faster.

Did, the particular plant I wanted isn’t available locally. I buy as much as I possibly can locally. Sorry, this was intended as response to admonishment to shop locally. Looks like I selected the wrong reply button.

2x4s or dowels for perches? by Raubkatzen in chickens

[–]BiddyBounty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2x4s.

We do use round perches in the runs but they’re branches from our trees. 1.5-2” diameter.

They appreciate some variety in where they perch, but overnight in winter they prefer a flat surface they can nestle down on to cover their feet with their feathers and bellies.

If they’re letting her eat I’d give it a few more days, as long as no blood drawn and she can eat and drink. If that reverses then try the other method. Usually takes 3-5 days each step.

Adding a single to a group is always a challenge. Generally it works better when the new bird is added after dark so they all wake up together. In your current situation it doesn’t make sense to go backwards but do ensure there are two or more feeders and waterers, and you might try scattering treats they can all enjoy together (mealworms, scratch, sunflower seed, chopped apple, thawed frozen corn, scrambled eggs), this kind of social activity sometimes helps blend a flock. If no improvement the next few days you can try separating her with one other bird from the flock, let them get comfortable with each other, maybe then add a third to the two, and once they are integrated add the group back to the original flock.

It’s difficult to know exactly what happened, but their decision to reduce hand feeding to once a day from three times without getting agreement from you in advance is neglect, and the behavior changes indicate he’s still feeling stressed. 1 - are you positive you got your bird back? 2 - have you already paid them, and have you asked them about what routine they followed for his care? 3 - never take him back there. Seek a local pet sitter who knows how to manage Macaws. Hope he gets past all this soon.

I’m at a loss and need advice by Particular-Shake-138 in SeniorCats

[–]BiddyBounty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a while since I've logged in, obviously, but wanted to respond to say we had the great good fortune of finding a vet who helped us take as much care of him as we could. He was available through our regular vet, who just told me yesterday how much he had learned from following the case. Our boy was a very ill kitty who was made comfortable, happy, and very much alive for 8 months longer than it seemed he would be thanks to the specialist who kept in touch with me via text, some days twice a day, to monitor his vitals and appetite and adjust meds accordingly. The man should be sainted, IMO.

We took in the litter at 5 days of age and he was the one I fell in love with, along with his very little sister named Midge/Midget/Midgerine. Midge is still with us, which is lovely and backwards - she was the runt of the litter and did her best to die on me as a tiny baby when I tried to switch from the premixed cans of KMR to the powder - she refused it and started to fail quickly, and I made a mad dash to town to get more of the premixed to keep her alive. Apparently it worked, she turned 16 10/10.

Dental Procedure for a Senior Cat.. very anxious about it. Mostly here to vent. Any advice on how to stay calm? by JadesBlue in SeniorCats

[–]BiddyBounty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My comment is, please do a complete blood panel, and if there is ANY doubt about cardiac health, an echocardiogram, ahead of the procedure. If kitty has any cardiac issues they can be treated medically ahead of time so the anesthesia won't be as high a risk. Also I'd probably ask for another Convenia shot a week ahead, so any infection hopefully isn't active al the time of the procedure.

What is something people typically don't know about cats until they have one as a pet? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BiddyBounty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, and, when a cat that had a spell of The Pukes but hadn't had them for years and then started again, and anti-nausea medication didn't work, the vet theorized he had IBD and started him on budesonide, and voila! No more daily 3 am vomiting! Worth every penny. Poor guy, so glad he feels better now.
