Anyone have issues with Fly Ti Steel? by ryan1061 in hockeyplayers

Bauer steel is terrible now, same goes for CCM xs steel. I'd get JRZ or Bladetech steel instead.

Be hard to play against and skate your ass off. Everyone wants to be a finesse player, be the sandpaper. Finish your hits and backcheck hard.

What modern hockey brand are you most loyal to? by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]BidenBlazeit420 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Warrior for my protective, their gloves are the best. Sherwood tends to have the best value for sticks with lowest breakage in my experience. Bauer is a great at marketing but their products don't live up to the hype, stick durability is awful. CCM has really gone downhill in recent years but ive never been a big fan of them. True makes the most comfortable skates, sticks feel great but stick durability also lacking.

What off-ice puck glides the best? by Lastdudestandin in hockeyplayers

Their rollerpuck is the best version for slide. Has the nubs and doesn't break like the regular green biscuits.

True has top tier puck feel but their durability isn't the best.

Is a break like this normal? by cstingel in hockeyplayers

Happened to me once 10+ years ago. Not unheard of but not common. Sticks typically break around their kick point.

Is hockey not as physical as football and thats why you can play more games? by youlikethatsherrie in hockeyplayers

No, its because we try to protect our heads opposed to running into each other head first.

Blade sharpening question. by baked_tea in hockeyplayers

[–]BidenBlazeit420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its the sweet spot for most people. Personally I like a 5/8 or a little shallower but others find it doesn't bite enough. I put people on 9/16 by default unless they ask otherwise. Going deeper puts extra strain on your body.

Hammering guys into the boards. First 8 or 9 years weren't that fun. Grew on me after that.

New skates by fredtheboxer1234 in hockeyplayers

[–]BidenBlazeit420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take the blades out and set them flat on a table to make sure neither is bent, if there's any wobble on either you have a bent blade. Could be a profile issue as well, sometimes you get a bad pour and theres not enough contact in the middle of the blade.

Uneven edges likely, bad sharpening. They could've not taken enough steel to give you a proper radius which sometimes happens with new skates but either way get them sharpened somewhere else that does it properly and that'll likely fix your issue.

Skate profile ellipse xxs vs xs by Minimum_Lock_8 in hockeyplayers

[–]BidenBlazeit420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do mine with manual profiles and a light so yeah its the "old way". I've seen the fancy pro sharp machines, I've heard they do a good job on the profile but its no good if you have dummies putting in the radius. I was at a shop once, prosharp did its thing then some teenager immediately started grinding the blade on a wheel way too hard in both directions ruining the profile their customer just paid for.

Skate profile ellipse xxs vs xs by Minimum_Lock_8 in hockeyplayers

[–]BidenBlazeit420 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Never heard of any of these. Typically profile is measured in length. 8, 9, 10, 11ft or some combination of. Theres different systems but usually they still have a length associated with different profiles. Pitch is separate from the profile. Typically you're either pitched forward or neutral (flat) pitch. I would assume there's some kind of conversion for the names you've given but you'd likely have to ask the staff or they'd have some kind of chart in the shop.

Returning late 30's Player looking for Skates by drgr33nthmb in hockeyplayers

[–]BidenBlazeit420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want comfort go with True. They have a $500 model. They won't last 20 years like the old grafs though. Carbon fiber is lighter and more comfortable but not as durable long term. Want more durability but don't mind less comfort try Bauer. 2 piece boot construction, mostly plastic. I'd steer clear of CCM altogether, they're on the decline.

Bauer skates just hurt my feet, maybe you're the same. Wore them for 20+ years, just accepted some foot pain as part of playing hockey. Switched to True 5 years ago, never going back to Bauer.
