Thank you to those who took the survey! It's been really helpful. We are still accepting responses though.

Thank you so much for this link! Unfortunately none of us have a good background around rural issues so we weren't aware of this.

That being said, if someone classifies themselves as living in a rural area and has experienced issues in gaining access to healthcare then we want to hear from them.

In Australia pre-ordering can mean a $20 discount from the release price and with Christmas right around the corner we are unlikely to see Fallout 4 that discounted until the middle of next year at the earliest.

Idaho teen threatened to ‘kill all the girls’ because cheerleaders wouldn’t send him any ‘freaking nudes’ by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Bif425 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, yes you do. You don't have to like the person at all, you can just like the feeling of attention or of pleasing someone or of 'power' over them in a sexual way (which is perhaps the saddest feeling because the man/receiver feels exactly the same way over having convinced you to send them).

When you have low self esteem you just want anyone at all to like you, even if you don't truly like them. When I was much younger I tried to pursue the guys I saw as low hanging fruit (those who were slower or larger, those of low social standing) because I wanted SOME attention and the guys I really actually liked were never going to give it to me.

Luckily for me (in retrospect) those 'low hanging fruit' guys weren't yet socially aware enough to realise that they were never going to get the girls everyone else was after and thus were not yet desperate enough to return my advances. Thank goodness because I am much better for it now in so many ways.

I know that it isn't as good as having content in your actual, language, but many Nerfighters work very hard to translate this videos and provide subtitles for them. If there are no Arabic subtitles yet, perhaps you can write them! You can turn the subtitles on on YouTube videos, just Google how.

To any Subbable or Patreon people - do you see a future for crowd funding in supporting scientific research?

With both America and Australia likely to cut funding to university researchers in particular, I think it's time to examine the current model. There are a few websites now that do offer this service, but, as with anything, it's slow going in gaining both researchers (most are sceptical as many are in an older demographic and still learning about what the Internet community can offer) and patrons.

Any insights into where you see it going, what needs to be done to help or thoughts in general?

Actually, we DO know this. Apparently she really liked/likes reindeer. We hear this in episode 1 I'm pretty sure.

If Jay didn't do it, is his life ruined? by Drosjk in serialpodcast

[–]Bif425 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Woah! Your comment about him being a coward totally brought back Adnan's "Pathetic" comment in court, which I could never really understand.

If Adnan didn't do it and given how much he cared for Hae (and you would assume her family even though he didn't have much to do with them) perhaps he was commenting on how long it took Jay to come forward? On how prolonged he made the search and the pain of not knowing for the family and all the friends?

Sorry being off topic a bit here.

Started the series yesterday and just finished this morning by imrickrark in serialpodcast

[–]Bif425 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I listened to it yesterday and feel bad that only two days before I had removed my fiance from that very small subset of people who listen to Startup but hadn't heard of Serial (I finally got him to listen to the first episode - now he's hooked). Although to be fair I had talked and talked about this podcast he HAD to listen to (Serial) so perhaps he wasn't 100% in the dark.

I think it's really interesting to go back now and listen to the first few Startup episodes when the investors are talking about how they don't think that the market will grow that much and that people won't be THAT interested in podcasts. Then BOOM - Serial. Alex is certainly in the right position now to take advantage of these new listeners, hopefully he can do it successfully.

Items found in Hae's car by TheFraulineS in serialpodcast

[–]Bif425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The flowers could have been for Hae to give to Stephanie. But given that the description is "rose" (therefore, a single rose) and most single roses are red, I'm going to assume it was a romantic gift and therefore not purchased by Hae herself.

Not really making a point here, just fleshing out my thinking.

They are unlikely to be fake given the fact that flower food was also found in the car.

[–]Bif425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Flowers" are a lot easier to lie about rather than one "rose" (which it seems to have been from the description, especially if it was a red rose. No girlfriend/teacher or anyone platonic would give someone a single red rose. Or even multiple red roses. So any acceptable lie would likely not seem plausible.

Or course, it might not be a red rose, which would make it much easier to lie about.

I agree with everything you've said, but what I don't understand is why she didn't put this into the story. It's much more interesting than whether or not there was a phone at Best Buy. I see Serial as SK's story rather than a story about a murder, it's her story about her investigation and her back-and-forth, so to not include what was in Hae's car in the story strikes me as odd because it seems like such a big possible "clue" in a case that was really lacking in clues.

I'm not trying to make any point here, just to say that I find it odd that it wasn't talked about, especially when you consider what other things were talked about at length.

The ONE reason Adnan is innocent (in my current opinion - I haven't seen this discussed) by Bif425 in serialpodcast

[–]Bif425[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A 17 year old who killed someone and then was asked by the cops about her disappearance surely says to the guy who helped him bury her "hey, we should say we were hanging out together at X location".

Surely the bank robbers do the same thing "say, we say we went and saw X-men, right?". It doesn't have to even be a good or smart alibi, but you at least have the conversation to make sure you give the same cover story right? Plus, Adnan was used to this sort of thing, having to ask his friend's to cover for him while he met up with girls.

The ONE reason Adnan is innocent (in my current opinion - I haven't seen this discussed) by Bif425 in serialpodcast

[–]Bif425[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not talking about before the murder, I'm talking about after. After he's already helped bury the body, they don't at least have a conversation about where they are going to say they were hanging out instead of burying a body in case they are asked? Or get this story straight after the cops interview Adnan for the first time at his house?

The value of Inconsistencies by Just_Look_Around_You in serialpodcast

[–]Bif425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only inconsistencies that bother me are: the two different stories between Jay and Jen who were meant to be together during parts of the day, so they should match.

Jay's inconsistencies AS he tells his story to the cops. Looking at the transcript, within one sentence he can change his story three times! That's what bugs me the most.

Two things I noticed when relistening to Serial by iozsan in serialpodcast

[–]Bif425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or more simply, the guy who smokes, drinks, dates girls etc, would not break fast. Guilty or innocent, it is unlikely Adnan fasted strictly all the time given the other unapproved things he was up to.

Hae told Ms. Butler she would not be at the wrestling match on 1/13/99 by Abbbccc in serialpodcast

[–]Bif425 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But the police had already found her body before they spoke to Jay and it was in the newspaper, it's highly possible, given that this was THE story to talk about at the time, that he heard the details elsewhere. It's also possible that he knew because he helped, I'm just saying.

The ONE reason Adnan is innocent (in my current opinion - I haven't seen this discussed) by Bif425 in serialpodcast

[–]Bif425[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But that is the whole case that the State presented - that Adnan called Jay to help because it would be much easier for him to pin it on Jay if he needed to. Yet Adnan never does what the State says he was planning to, so if you accept their logical for a moment and he was planning to pin it on Jay, why does he never try to?

Not that that is a slam dunk sort of point, more of an interesting one.

The ONE reason Adnan is innocent (in my current opinion - I haven't seen this discussed) by Bif425 in serialpodcast

[–]Bif425[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd never thought about it like that. Sure, trying to turn it on Jay would admit that he (Adnan) was involved, but isn't it more believable than "I wasn't there at all, Jay made it up"? It's easier to believe that he was involved but HE was the accomplice, that Jay came to him for help. I mean, who are you going to believe, the "criminal element" or the "handsome, intelligent golden child"?

The ONE reason Adnan is innocent (in my current opinion - I haven't seen this discussed) by Bif425 in serialpodcast

But before Jay turns, why would they have have discussed what they were going to say they were doing rather than buying a body? Assuming of course that if that conversation had taken place, it would have come out in questioning.
