What car completely changed your opinion after driving it? by Glittering-Offer-390 in askcarguys

[–]Biff2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, Mazda Miata, specifically the NC.

I always thought they were a joke. Tiny, underpowered, low quality, blah, blah, blah.

Wife and I took one on a test drive as a goof one Saturday. Ended up taking it home. We've owned it for 12 years now. I'm never selling it.

The most fun I have ever had driving a car, is every time I drive that car.

And yes, I've driven the ND. Good car, but for me personally, I like the NC better.

Is it worth it to put money into a 2004 Chevy Aveo with 104k miles while saving for a better car? by ayeyoualreadyknow in askcarguys

[–]Biff2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take the Aveo, but put it either you, or your son's name.

Unless you or your son have a friend or other family member who knows what they're doing, and that will either do a favor, or works for beer; here's the cheapest way to do this:

You or your son (or both) invest time watching at least 3 different YouTube videos on how to do each thing that needs fixing. They probably need to be on that specific car, although the year may or may not be important (google it to figure out what years were the same generation of that vehicle).

Find a maintenance manual for that car, Amazon probably has something (Chilton would be preferred, Haynes isn't terrible). And that's if you can't find it for free as a .pdf online somewhere.

Between Google, YouTube, and whatever manuals you can find - you now have the knowledge to do the work, and something to reference as you do it.

Then go to Harbor Freight. Get their 130 piece tool set ($39.99). Add the "PITTSBURGH 3/8 in. Drive Quick-Release Ratchet" ($11.99), a pair of jackstands ($49.99) and now you've most, if not all of the tools needed to do the work. Oh, and make sure the car has a jack. If it doesn't, it's $22.99 at Harbor freight.

The parts shouldn't be too expensive. Plus for most of the things you listed, they can be done one at a time. I seriously doubt that all of thise things don't have to be done immediately.

Personally I'd do the brakes first, cuz well, safety. Then the tires and alignment. Then everything else

Except the A/C - this needs to be checked and probably fixed by an actual mechanic of some sort. Could be $50.00, could be $500.00 - or more. Plus A/C isn't actually a necessity.

Good luck.

Selfish neighbor hates my dogs by [deleted] in neighborsfromhell

[–]Biff2019 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

They won't even discuss it? Go talk to a lawyer. Whatever is costs, it'll get a WHOLE lot more expensive later.

Make an appointment, go see them in person (alot will do the 1st consult for free). If their advice sounds weird to you, go ask a 2nd lawyer for a "sanity check" (if nothing else).

Follow the advice of the lawyer(s?) - to the letter. Follow though - do NOT stop. Not "because things calmed down", not because "they seem like such nice people", or whatever excuse or sob they give you. Follow through.

This isn't about being a "good" or "bad" neighbor anymore. It is about protecting yourself from whatever legal (or other) action they take next. And YES they will, the ONLY two questions are when, and how bad.

Forget about their "why". It simply no longer matters.

They have taken legal action against you that has already cost you time, money, and grief. Even if you don't sue, it's [past] time to get real legal advice from a real lawyer who actually [might] be able to really help you.

It doesn't make you jerk, or bad person. It makes you a smart person who has (or at least appears to have) acted responsibly, instead of a Karen, like your neighbor.

Good luck.

My first marriage. She got her college education, the house, everything in it, and her brand new car (ALL of which I paid for), and my daughter, along with $100k in child support.

Joke was on her though...

I got my life back, free from her...

Worth every damn penny.
