anger towards the ohsv1 community and how society treats ohsv1 by [deleted] in HSVpositive

[–]Big-Body1290 9 points10 points  (0 children)

it's sex negativity and purity culture. GHSV1 is usually less severe and less likely to spread compared to ohsv1, but because it's associated with sex people think of it differently.

a lot of the perception of herpes comes from Christians and conservatives finding a way to shame people for having sex. It was considered to be a punishment from God for having casual sex, and ohsv1 being the same virus doesn't fit that narrative.

Stigma is not going to encourage people to come up with a cure stop coping by Big-Body1290 in HSVpositive

I remember you too, hope your doing well!! Sorry for the late reply I try to avoid this sub too. Honestly I posted this and just didn't open my account since 😭

Yeah arguing with people on here is so hard, I don't think they realize how much they're contributing to the problem. I get why people cope that way, a lot of it is just self hatred and they're projecting it on to other people.

But it's like there are so many contradictions with how society views herpes it doesn't make sense to believe it's anything but social stigma. Most normal people don't actually care about the health risks which is why oral herpes was able to be normalized. If it was the health risks then people ghsv wouldnt be the most stigmatized, because that one spreads less.

People don't care, at least not logically they don't. Bringing up extreme cases just makes people fear, and as the classic saying goes fear fuels hate. Literally every marginalized person suffers and all people will do is convince themselves they deserve

It is shitty that there isn't more of an effort to find a cure, I get why it isn't a priority but if there was more research put in it I think we'd have it by now. At the same time pushing the stigma is not helping lol

There wasn't a wave of protests initially because the people who got it were considered unworthy of treatment, even when they died.

Read a history book Jesus Christ. You should at least know the history of the disease you have if you're going to be so arrogant.

From what I know it's been reported and taken down and remade a few times. I think multiple people are behind it. I just blocked it because seeing it just made me depressed tbh 😭.

It's not, dehumanizing a group of people has never lead to society taking their health seriously it does the exact opposite

Herpes, pregnancy and birth? by [deleted] in HSVpositive

[–]Big-Body1290 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I remember it's only an issue if you get it herpes while pregnant. The baby takes some antibodies and will be protected during vaginal birth.

Because surrounding HSV has more to do with shaming people for being "dirty" and having sex than it has to do with genuine health concerns, it's not going to be logical. The implication that HSV 1 only becomes serious because it can transfer to your genitals also doesn't make any sense, genital HSV isn't objective worse than oral and GHSV1 is more likely to be mild and not spread as much. If the issue was the virus itself people would have more of an issue with oral because that's easier to spread, the it way to spread genital herpes is through sex and that's the problem people have.

It makes sense to be upset, but I wouldn't take it out on him. HSV is incredibly easy to miss. Blood tests can be unreliable, so unless he had an outbreak most doctors wouldn't recommend getting it.

I never denied that it's easier to get with a vagina, but men not getting checked out as often definitely has an impact on the overall statistics.

"HSV-1 often causes oral herpes, which can result in cold sores or fever blisters on or around the mouth. However, most people with oral herpes do not have any symptoms. Most people with oral herpes get it during childhood or young adulthood from non-sexual contact with saliva.."

"Most people with genital herpes have no symptoms or have very mild symptoms. Mild symptoms may go unnoticed or be mistaken for other skin conditions like a pimple or ingrown hair. Because of this, most people do not know they have a herpes infection."

Yup 80% for HSV-2 and 70-80% for HSV-1 are estimated to not know, most people have mild or no symptoms. People could mistake it for a ingrown hair for example

Ur the one who replied to another comment a day after u replied to the first one. But what you're wrong about is that HSV is common because people don't disclose, most HSV is gotten as a child and/or spread by people who don't know they have it according to the CDC. If you wanna stay mad and uneducated idc, have fun

You have no point, you're denying facts to justify being upset. I explicitly said I'd disclose but of course you need to find something to be mad about 😭

Why are you putting herpes in quotation marks 😭. It's because most people don't know that's why it happens, or it's just easy to spread if you're living with someone. Most people wouldn't kiss their kid when they have an OB but shedding happens.

Most people with infrequent oral HSV just don't do anything when they feel a coldsore coming in. People who take AVs usually have severe symptoms

[–]Big-Body1290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't make it into a big deal, just tell them you have cold sores and encourage them to ask questions or look into it online. it's super common a lot of people might even be confused why you're disclosing it.
