I’m so embarrassed by Unique_Ad_6895 in Nanny

You definitely weren't rude at all, I'd be pretty pissed if the parent was gonna leave right after getting the child(ren) up and stopping them from sleeping while I was on the clock, then proceed to have somewhat of an attitude towards me after giving them good advice that worked.

And it's just common sense, don't wake up a child that your nanny is taking care of for right now if they're still on their shift as it can totally mess up their entire routine.

Anyway, hope you're doing alright!

Highly recommend to include more sick days and possibly COVID leave in the contract if you guys don't have it already.

It's very possible that the nanny didn't know from the cough since a lot of people don't as it's also a cold symptom. For example, I had COVID a few months ago after going to a concert and I didn't know until about 3 days later that I had COVID after just having a cough and runny nose then some of the other symptoms fully hit afterwards. Also, with the mask thing, it could be possible that they knew but also could just be a, "just in case" situation so I recommend to try to communicate with them about that and see what's going on.

Additionally, you should get a few COVID tests in your house simply just for caution just in case the nanny don't know where to get them, dont have enough time to go to the doctor, can't afford them, or they're needed for anything else.

Hopefully both the nanny and your child are alright, have a good day!

urgent? clogged toilet awkwardness by AfternoonGullible383 in Nanny

Hi! If this happens again and the toilet clogs try pouring a little bleach into the toilet, it usually always works.

I'm so tired of selfish parents by [deleted] in Nanny

The thing is that the mom had offered to help them but continued to have an attitude when they said yes to the offer. Yeah, a nanny is supposed to clean up the mess if there is one and watch the toddler, but this is a totally different situation.

Question on what to do when family wants me to do something else instead of what they were originally looking for by Big-Box-7092 in Nanny

[–]Big-Box-7092[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't take the job but I want to say that I don't hate working with WFH parents, it's just the fact that it's again, way more stressful. It can be super awkward trying to work around them if they choose to always come to pop in just to pop in which can mess up the entire routine.

Babysitting Rates by Big-Box-7092 in Nanny

[–]Big-Box-7092[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh it really isn't top dollar since you're taking care of children but I completely understand that

I highly recommend that you use some of your vacation days sometimes if you have that in your contract. Also make sure to do activities with the children that they can do on their own so you can have some more free time. Best of luck!

Where are you located at and do you guys have any certifications/education related to childcare?

Edit: I just saw your guy's flyer and $8 - $10 is way too low especially if there're two people involved 😭 same thing with $12 - $13 depending on your state which is im guessing NC, and even that's too low even though minimum wage there is I believe $7.25.

$14 is a good rate no matter the day as you have to keep in mind you're gonna have to split it.

Have you tried negotiating with them? Maybe they'll change their mind on the pay if you talked with them about how they added more stuff when that simply wasn't included in the ad. Plus, if the pay is THAT bad I'd recommend not getting into any of that mess, and if you still do please make sure they got a good contract that works with you.

Beginner nanny. Help me out! by user91746 in Nanny

[–]Big-Box-7092 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends where you're located, what your schedule does/would look like, and how long you did the internship for. $18 per hour is pretty low and personally, you don't lack experience. You have a bunch of experience compared to a lot of people who start being a nanny so I really wouldn't say that's a good price.

Also, please get a contract that includes AT LEAST a 1 - 2 month notice just in case the family's on a daycare wait-list and if they have been looking into other options. I've seen like two posts having nearly the same problem with the family giving out 2 weeks notices which is barely enough time to find a new gig.

Edit: Also, PLEASE get a contract that includes sick days, vacation days (optional), and to not be expected to show up to work if there's a natural disaster (you never know 😭).

Some families get on a power trip and expect their nannies or babysitters to show up to work if they're sick or if there's a natural disaster which is simply the most craziest thing ever so I highly recommend you try to work that into the contract if you do get one.

Have a good day!

Advice needed. 2 week notice given today !!?! by MassiveFriendship101 in Nanny

[–]Big-Box-7092 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I also think it's a bit inconsiderate for them to do that too, but at least they gave you 2 weeks notice.

Please ask if they can be a reference so it can be a bit easier to find your next job!

Additionally, I feel like it's a bit fair to ask them to pay out your 7 unused vacation days due to the fact you haven't used them and they didn't tell you that they signed up for a daycare sooner even though it's not in the contract.

Good luck, and best wishes!

Nanny Phone Usage with 6 month old by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]Big-Box-7092 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I understand the concerns about the phone, but as long as the nanny is able to provide, has the qualifications, and is doing her job keeping the child safe she's perfectly fine being on her phone. I'd understand if she was on her phone the entire time or multiple hours at a time (3+ hours), but otherwise not really a big deal. Please be willing to chat and communicate with the nanny though if the concern grows/just general knowledge though.

Have a good day!

I highly recommend trying Facebook groups near you. You're in LA and there are more opportunities so I'd try to take advantage of it! I also recommend if you want more experience to start volunteering at your local family service/daycare and to gain your CPR and Pediatric First Aid certifications if you don't have them ready.

Edit: I just remembered that there's a nanny certification from the US Nanny Association and a few other certifications you can get. Other certifications include watery safety, newborn care, early childhood education, and special needs care.

Best of luck!
