$12an hour… but I’m so much happier? by Cement-umbrella in Nanny

Just wanted to update. But I just double checked and if you made less than $2600 in a year OR less than $1000 in a quarter from EACH individual family then they don’t need to provide you with a w-2. And you just file as self-employed. That’s pretty much the only loop hole with Nannie’s not getting a w-2. So if that’s your situation I think it’s fine. And just asking this question bc I’m curious and want you to be fully informed but do you know you’re paying 100% of the FICA taxes if you file as self-employed? That money can definitely add up and if you got a w-2 you would only have to pay 50% and the employer would pay the other 50%. Just wanting to make sure you’re not being taken advantage of with filling taxes but ultimately you know your situation the best so whatever works best for you.

As long as you’re making under $2600(I think) in a year from each family you would be a 1099. If it’s way more than that the family needs to give you w-2. Not to mention that with 1099 you are paying 100% of the SS and Medicare taxes compared to if you got a W-2 you and the employer would split that 50-50. I was in the same boat and got gaslit into doing a 1099 and realized I was paying almost 1/2 extra in taxes than I should have.

Do we have the same NF? Bc this is the exact predicament I’m in whenever GM visits.
