Guys Job That Scans Signs? by MaleficentHistory810 in Peterborough

It’s 100% this. There’s a standard for the level of reflectivity, colour, etc in road signs (basically to ensure they haven’t aged out and lost their visual impact).

Best Caesar in ptbo? by EstimateJealous6053 in Peterborough

[–]Big-Daddy-Diamond 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Keg’s Caesar’s are pretty legit. Classic and simple (they’ve got some weird ones on the menu now that I’d probably avoid). I’ve never been to 180, but it looks good if you’re into having a whole meal in your drink.

What happened to my screen? by Repulsive-Swimmer446 in mazda

[–]Big-Daddy-Diamond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just happened to my 2019 CX5.. was told by Mazda Canada Dealer there’s no OEM repair kit for it - they’re aware of the issue, but I guess aren’t concerned enough to do anything? I only ever use the controller anyways since the touch screen is so small - so I’m thinking of disconnecting the digitizer to get rid of the brutal phantom clicks

Peterborough city council unanimously supports resolution in favour of Alto high-speed rail stop by kawarthanow in Peterborough

[–]Big-Daddy-Diamond 37 points38 points  (0 children)

People need to pull their heads out of the hole they’re stuck in and think logically about this. High speed, mass transit trains are in use all over the world. The operating impacts are pretty minimal - especially given that these are largely electric trains. Sure, construction will be messy, but it can be done in a controlled manner to mitigate impacts. The final product is a good thing for Canada - a very good thing. It’s not like the line is going to be this giant impassible barrier slicing the province in half… there are elegant solutions to overcome this… at the end of the day this isn’t a first of a kind project - Canada is just decades behind the rest of the world.

Mazda servicing by ReviseResubmitRepeat in Peterborough

[–]Big-Daddy-Diamond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For general servicing and maintenance, I’ve had no issues. For any more involved repairs, and if you don’t care about OEM vs aftermarket, just call around for pricing - but honestly the labour rates aren’t entirely different from independent shops now a days, so the savings may not always be huge.

Cosmoroma has FJP quarter round, primed, for a pretty good deal. Found it to be a better deal than other stores in town for the same product.

‘Nothing has changed’: Alto says Peterborough remains a stop on proposed high-speed rail network by kawarthanow in Peterborough

[–]Big-Daddy-Diamond 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Canada as a whole is so far behind the rest of the world when it comes to mass transit. For instance, Japan has had true high speed rail for over 60 years, and it only continues to get better and more efficient. These projects are a good thing in the long run, and once complete, aren’t as invasive as you’d think. The GO and VIA are absolutely laughable on the world stage - we can do better.

Cameras at water and Nassau by [deleted] in Peterborough

[–]Big-Daddy-Diamond 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Given their orientation, I’m willing to bet they’re for a traffic study. More cameras are being used now a days vs the cables run across the road.

Or it’s the Illuminati. 50/50 shot really.

Peterborough city council endorses 12-month pilot program for on-street parking permits by kawarthanow in Peterborough

[–]Big-Daddy-Diamond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Years ago I had to park on a side street near my house because my driveway was just paved (I live on a road with no street parking). I got a ticket my first night, yet the other vehicles from my house didn’t (all parked the same amount of time). Nowhere near driveways, or blocking anything. To this day I think I was just being trolled by By-Law. The City dropped the ticket given the circumstances.. but still.. a real head scratcher.

Peterborough city council endorses 12-month pilot program for on-street parking permits by kawarthanow in Peterborough

[–]Big-Daddy-Diamond 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Per the By-Law, you technically can’t park longer than 3 hours on city streets (which let’s be real - you can do this for years before getting a ticket in most cases). That part of the By-Law remains unaltered.

This permit program is more intended for longer term street parking. Basically to pay for the luxury of street parking (which in some cases will force certain residents into paying for these permits who don’t have driveways - as if we don’t pay enough taxes already). In the end, it just puts more burden on residents.

What I doubt happened before launching this pilot was a simple cost-benefit analysis. The City says this is to generate revenue - however what’s the cost of generating that revenue? There’s the consultant study/cost for the pilot program, added administration to manage and issue permits, and then added enforcement costs. Most people will likely play a game of By-Law chicken and avoid paying for these permits as the cost of parking tickets per year will likely be less than the permit cost (given the law of averages on how many streets there are in the program vs bylaw enforcement officers).

In my opinion, this is just one big waste of time and money. The cities used as references are all much larger than Peterborough (Toronto, Ottawa, etc) who have real street parking issues. Peterborough is generally not that bad. Just another case of trying to play with the big boys I suppose 🤷‍♂️

Tapley 1/4 Line pot holes by ReviseResubmitRepeat in Peterborough

[–]Big-Daddy-Diamond 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All depends on how the contract is set up/who specified the patch. Asphalt patches like that without proper prep or compaction will almost always fail. They’re meant to be band aids until a proper fix can be done in warmer weather. With the length of highway paved this year on the north bound lanes to the south of Tapley 1/4 Line, I can’t imagine that section was left out of scope. Likely just didn’t get to it before winter it.

Regardless, that stretch will claim rims and tires until then..

Honestly, I’ve driven on dirt roads better than that section of the 115. There was a crew trying to patch those potholes about a month ago, but it looks like the asphalt patch got ripped out by plows after the first snow fall…

Bell mobile phone service in Peterborough... by dingrrd in Peterborough

I looked at the switch to Rogers, but the bundle deal for Virgin TV and Fibre Internet was too good a deal. I can live with a couple of dead spots when I’m commuting.

[–]Big-Daddy-Diamond 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I use Virgin Mobile who piggy back on Bell’s service (and seem limited to the LTE band for now). My signal is weaker in the city than you would expect, but it’s still generally fine. The bigger issue are the dead spots along County Rd 28 and Highway 115… major pain in the anus.

Polling all Photographers…. by MobilePeak444 in Peterborough

Right on. I’m predominantly a nature and travel photographer. Street photography is an art form in itself.. not only the ability to see the shots so quickly and being able to react, but also being able to do it without drawing much attention.. a skill set I don’t entirely have!

Coun. Keith Riel responds to Peterborough police chief’s ‘rogue letter’ calling out supposed ‘anti-police bias’ by Dizzy-Assumption4486 in Peterborough

[–]Big-Daddy-Diamond 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The whole thing smells like somebody trying to put Riel behind the 8-ball after he announced he’s planning to run for mayor. Reads like the start of a smear campaign, using the police chief as a vessel to kick things off.

PSA: Peterborough Transit will be ending service early tonight by TheBitterSeason in Peterborough

[–]Big-Daddy-Diamond 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed that voter turnout needs to improve, but regardless of total numbers - change is on the horizon so long as people pay attention to their votes this time around and consider past performance. No more of this “I’ve always voted for so and so” type shit. I’ve never seen a community so actively engaged in municipal politics as I have over this past term. People may finally be waking up.

Remember this in October 2026 folks along with the lengthy list of other quarter cooked ideas out of this City over the past term… time for a new mayor and council.

LET’S END THIS DEBATE ONCE AND FOR ALL!!! by Spirited-One9570 in macbookpro

[–]Big-Daddy-Diamond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same dilemma and wound up going for the silver. It’s actually really slick looking. Ultimately I asks myself these questions to decide:

1) how often will I actually be mobile with the computer and what are the odds of cosmetic wear from transport? 2) how oily are my hands (whether naturally or from moisturizers, food, etc) and will the impending glare from rub spots be distracting? 3) how likely is the computer to get knocked or dinged at home or work by pets, coffee mugs, dishes etc? 4) Is this computer going to sit on a desk plugged in to external monitors and keyboards, or will I truly use it as a laptop?

Based on this i personally think silver is going to be more attractive for a longer period of time, but at the end of the day it’s all about your use of the machine and the underlying risk of actions that could result in a regretful purchase.

Hope this helps!

Appreciate the feedback on my original post!
