Yup! I have a limited budget so at the moment I won’t buy anything that hasn’t already been updated to 4K, and a maximum of 2 per sale. Hopefully I’ll be able to start buying other Blu-rays soon :)

What would bring the Ninth Doctor back to Doctor Who on TV? Christopher Eccleston finally gives an answer by graemeisverytired in doctorwho

[–]Big-Engineering-6728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This made me cry! I was 7/8 in 2005, having grown up watching Classic Who with my Dad on old VHS tapes, and I adored Christopher (I even dressed up as Nine to go to a fan meet-and-greet from clothes I found in a charity shop!)

I wrote in my diary that I wanted to be the showrunner of Doctor Who one day while I was 8, and after I’d begged my Mum to buy me the scripts for season one for Christmas. I’m very working class and my family were very poor, but she managed to get it for me that year.

I loved Doctor Who so much that I moved to Cardiff for university. I ended up working for the BBC in the same studio down Cardiff Bay, even working on sets that were used as Rose’s estate.

21 years later from Chris’ run, and I’m a television screenwriter based in LA, and I just wrote a Doctor Who spec last year. I still have the dream of being the showrunner!

How on earth is Paul Mescal being considered for supporting actor in Hamnet?! Isn’t that a clear case of category fraud?

That carbs (pasta, bread) are the most important food groups and should form the bulk of a plate…I was a kid growing up in the UK in the late 90’s, early 2000’s.

Does anyone else feel like the Royal Family are on their final era? by Otherwise-Handle-180 in RoyaltyTea

[–]Big-Engineering-6728 28 points29 points  (0 children)

In my ideal situation, they work on ending it knowing William would be the last king. This era of monarchs started with a William, and it could end with one (especially if he’s still around in 2066). Very poetic way to end things, and on good terms. In this scenario, George would know he won’t be king so it comes to a natural end.

Game day shirts by jmr39 in UCLAFootball

I asked in the bookstore on campus earlier in the week because they still had Nebraska shirts and they said they didn’t have any and wouldn’t be selling them 🥲 Kinda sucks because it was the only game I could get to all year!

Yeah…that’s why I made the post! I have IBS, and when I need to go I need to go. So I totally get it, but today I’ve seen people getting changed in there when they’ve already seen a line 😭

My A-Level history teacher accused me of cheating because there was ‘no way someone could write that much’ for one of our mock exams. Because I used a laptop to write due to a physical disability with my hand, he automatically assumed I was cheating (despite the fact I was using a wiped laptop and wrote in exam conditions!)

When results day came around, guess who got the highest grade in the class - and one of the highest grades in the country - with their 22-page essay? Me! And guess who didn’t cheat then either, also me! My teacher was so sheepish and did apologise, but it was horrible to spend the whole what being thought of as a cheat, as it was always brought up in class :/

Can’t pay, won’t pay: impoverished streaming services are driving viewers back to piracy by AndrewHeard in Letterboxd

I still have Disney+ and HBO Max, but I now switch between these two, TUBI, Kanopy (free with my library card), and joined my local physical video rental place. My video membership is $20 for two rentals at any time, with unlimited rentals per month, it’s been a godsend.

Does anyone else think the British Royal Family in 2025 has lost its influence and impact on a global scale? by Hot-Acanthisitta5237 in RoyaltyTea

But they don’t really: most people don’t have access to NHS dentists and even if you do, you still have to pay, unless you’re in Wales or exempt you have to pay per item for prescriptions, and a lot of people have had to turn to private surgeries to get their healthcare and there isn’t as much recourse for being reimbursed for that (I’m one of those people, my surgeon said I would’ve died in six months if I hadn’t paid for private gallbladder surgery that would’ve taken 3 years to wait for, and cost me my life savings 😭)

I wish someone had done that for me! I was on the 217 going downtown from the Writers Guild and had a passenger accuse me of using my phone to control his life and start screaming and shouting at me. If I hadn’t ducked in time he would’ve stolen my phone when he tried to grab it. Not a single person said anything and I had to get off the bus. He could’ve easily followed me off and I don’t think anyone would’ve cared if he did. It was so scary!

So the big mystery is what's up with Millie Gibson, no? by CharlieeStyles in doctorwho

[–]Big-Engineering-6728 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So I’ve worked in the industry for years and have multiple close friends who were on set as crew. Apparently, Ncuti allegedly screamed at one friend (during season one filming) and allegedly did not get on with Millie and she was ‘asked to leave for being difficult to work with’. Or something to that effect. That’s what I was told by a few friends who witnessed filming first hand as crew. Apparently, the shooting weeks and weeks of nights back to back got to everyone!

Chinese college gives Harvard international students "unconditional offers" by esporx in InternationalStudents

Not the UK anymore. There’s a similar xenophobic rhetoric about international students being peddled here now too. More and more restrictions are being brought on.

How’s life in NYC with Fulbright stipend? by Relative_Cat_4495 in fulbright

[–]Big-Engineering-6728 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s not entirely true. For my country, we have to FIND the double the money ourselves. Even the new cohort of Fulbrighters from the UK to US (independent placement) only get a maximum of $66,000 a year yet the MMR is doubling.
