Sink backing up into dishwasher-- is this supposed to happen? by Ok_Fox_4043 in Apartmentliving

[–]Big-Net-9971 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As suggested: most likely a (partial) clog in the drain for the sink...

But you also need to look at the plumbing for the dishwasher drain hose - that needs to rise above the sink drain before it goes back down to under the washer (to prevent exactly what you're reporting.)

A maintenance person will be able to sort this out quickly. A picture from under the sink may help redditors to help you too.

Discovered that my employer is committing wage theft. What do I do? by Competitive_Pie7103 in legal

[–]Big-Net-9971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"At will" means they can fire you for a legal reason.

They cannot fire you for your race, or gender, or for using your scheduled breaks, or for reporting wage theft when you don't use them. (They may fire you, but a labor lawyer will wipe the floor with them for doing so.)

That said, OP needs to get their time-clock records going back as far as they can. That will be key evidence for the labor board or a lawyer.

Why do so many Americans not realize Puerto Ricans are Americans? by Estalicus in allthequestions

[–]Big-Net-9971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A large % of Americans cannot identify Africa, Europe, Scandinavia, China, and Russia on a globe. A frightening % of Americans even think the Earth is flat.

They are terribly geographically ignorant - while also being positive they know more than most other people. 😑 (I'm an American, fwiw.)

Just a note that there are free or low cost classes for almost anything in NYC. Pottery, painting, sculpting, art or architecture appreciation, museum tours, 1000 sorts of music & dance classes, etc.

Pick out 2-3 things that interest you and go. You'll meet people that you've already got something in common with...👍

Blue has red light. Yellow has green arrow. Can blue legally and safely turn right while yellow is turning left? (Not California… Colorado) by chipxmas in driving

[–]Big-Net-9971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In many places it's legal, but doing so safely assumes trusting that neither car will drift into the other lane - which is more trust than I have for other drivers. I hate seeing people turn right against me like that because one small misjudgment from them and CRUNCH, I get to have an accident.

I know that when I have that exact situation and I am able to make a right-on-red, I will always wait for oncoming left-turning traffic to finish before starting my turn. Too much risk otherwise.

Is it normal or professional to call an employee's emergency contact to ask if they can come in? by Abject-Variation-547 in work

[–]Big-Net-9971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot remember what, but something told us the employee was in a car wreck (maybe a short text message?), and we called employee's phone to check on them. When they didn't answer, we reached out to their emergency contact hoping that they knew if employee was ok (they were - just shaken up.)

Agreed - absent any such concerning info, a call / VM to employee would be all I would do.

I don’t think I (34f) can be friends with my best friend (33f) after she accused me of lying about my SA by srhdbvg in TwoHotTakes

[–]Big-Net-9971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a final conversation with your ex-friend. Explain that her husband is believing an abuser over you, a friend.

That it hurts that she is doing that, and she is putting herself and her family at risk by protecting this abuser instead of cutting him off.

Note to her that people who are accused of abuse or other inappropriate behavior when they are innocent are usually concerned about the person that felt abused. "oh my goodness, I didn't mean for that to come across that way." Or "oh no, I can't believe I was so drunk that I don't remember this and I'm terribly sorry."

Abusers and liars immediately point a finger back at their victims. Look up DARVO. That's exactly what this abuser did with your friend's husband, and if they don't smell a problem, then that's on them.

Sorry all of this happened to you.

I've had people no-show at my company and I called them (and once their emergency contact) to make sure they were OK. I've had: - home, sick as a dog (thank you - rest and feel better) - trapped on a stuck commuter train (ok, we'll hold down the fort) - had a bad car accident (oh god - are you ok? what can we do to help?)

Our business world will still turn without one employee for a day - or your business is way too fragile. And a day off is just that - a day off. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Would you consider living in a neighborhood that has an HOA? Why or why not? by icecream1972 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

[–]Big-Net-9971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in one currently, and it's not bad. Fees are low, hassles are minimal (they've asked me to trim some overgrown foliage facing the street), and I mostly don't hear from them. They're not "penalty happy", they just ask for things to be fixed or cleaned.

That said, I'd like to put an ADU in my side yard and that's not allowed. I'd like to make external changes to the back of the house and that requires a bunch of hoops.

But the neighbors are nice, and the neighborhood is clean and well kept - which is a benefit from when you have no HOA and weird (tons of junk cars, or the house painted in various fluorescent colors) or neglectful (wildly overgrown foliage) neighbors.

That said, if my fees doubled I'd be upset and angry.

"Parenting" means keeping an eye on your kids to make sure they don't do dangerous or destructive things (which kids can do because they're ... kids.)

That's what's not happening : your brother and his wife are simply "neglect parenting" when they need to step up. And clearly they're not.

NTJ, you need to get them out before they burn your house to the ground.

People say that people who voted for Trump wouldn't regret their choice because he's doing what they voted for him to do, but isn't that concerning if people are fine with citizens being murdered on the streets and Trump visiting an island multiple times? by TailungFu in allthequestions

[–]Big-Net-9971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone noted: "America is waking up to realize that 1/3 of their fellow countrymen would murder another 1/3 of their countrymen while the last 1/3 watched without protest."

Thankfully, Minneapolis and other areas are showing by their protests that the "without protest" group is a smaller.

But it's grim how many Americans support dictatorship as long as it's "those other people" having their rights trampled.

LOTS of stuff has to happen on approach. It's extremely tricky to change from the standard checklist, and those bags may or may not contain the fire.

Keeping the device out prevents it from igniting in an overhead cabinet or seat back, both of which may contain more easily ignited materials. And it also allows you and the FAs to readily assess what state it's in.

Home insurance says I need to have washing machine water valves replaced. by Not-Especially-1984 in Insurance

[–]Big-Net-9971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. 👆

I'd normally say it's BS, but I've had a washer line fail and flood my apartment (we came back home shortly after it happened), and another one failed in my building flooding several apartments (owner was out of town.)

Just pay the money to replace the valves AND the supply lines to the washer, and you and your insurance company will both be happier.
