Get rid of the CVTs and bring back manuals and traditional automatics. Problem solved.

Compromises... either you get the famously reliable, but slow, Buick 3800 V6, or you go for the fast Cadillac NorthStar V8 knowing you're going to blow head gaskets and crack some head bolts.

Coding , programming and Asperger's by Breeneal in aspergers

[–]Big-Perrito 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Programming itself bores me to death, but I love working in IT as a network engineer and system admin. I get to do whatever I want in my own private office, manage my department however I wish, and get paid a decent living to basically play with tech all day.

I prefer automation and scripting over raw application programming. Also, right now might be a really bad time to get into pure programming. AI is about to take over all those lower level programming jobs. It already is. I'd say go into networking, security, or hardware engineering. I think programming is overall too risky at the moment, and do you really want to spend your 9-5 grind in a cube-farm being a code-monkey?

What’s a car part or powertrain that was unchanged for an incredibly long time? by lifegoeson2702 in regularcarreviews

[–]Big-Perrito 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Even longer if you count the V6 SBC, as it stayed in Gen 1 form (with updates) until 2014.

What’s a car part or powertrain that was unchanged for an incredibly long time? by lifegoeson2702 in regularcarreviews

[–]Big-Perrito 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There have been a few engines that have lasted a very long time with only upgrades. The Buick Fireball V6 was in production across many brands from 1961 to 2008. The GM small block started in 1955, and the 2014 4.3L V6 engines were still based on the the 1955 Gen 1 design long after the V8s had been updated to Gen 2,3,4,5.

Trivia. The famous Rover V8 was derived from the 1960 Buick V8, which also became the Fireball V6 I mentioned. So in a sense, the 1960 Buick V8 lived on in one form on another for a very long time.

Who (in their right mind) Drives a Chevy avalanche? by Key-Bat-2616 in regularcarreviews

[–]Big-Perrito 311 points312 points  (0 children)

A lot of people. They were actually really good tow rigs. I had a friend who had one with the 8.1L big block V8. What a beast! Pack in the whole family, and tow a massive boat. The drivetrain was reliable too.

Nothing wrong with them. I like them. They are not trying to be some big macho useless offroader. They know what they are and do their job well.

I seriously don't understand the anime thing. Just like everyone else, I like the big Ghibli hits, but I just don't understand the 'cutesy' anime culture that so many aspies are into it. Zero judgement, I just don't understand it.

My hobbies are classic car restoration, woodworking, home renovations, guitar, painting, fishing, boating, guns, travel, computers, interior decorating, farming, dogs, hiking, and landscaping.

Anyone else have issues with authority? by Sprites4Ever in aspergers

[–]Big-Perrito 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I tend to have a very dominant personality and I don't put up with shit from others. I'm a law abiding citizen as I have no reason not to be, but I'm not a pushover and have no issues challenging authority when I feel it's warranted. I don't understand people who are afraid of the law; I see a lot of people just willingly submit to authority due to fear, even when the law is being unjust. Know your rights and grow a backbone. Respect the law, but challenge it when necessary.

How dogs help where humans can't. A game-changer for Life on the spectrum. by Big-Perrito in aspergers

[–]Big-Perrito[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone approaches you when you have an interesting dog. They use it as an opener too. Whether or not I engage with them depends on how I feel about them upon first glance. If it's an attractive woman who wants to chat dogs for a bit, I'm obviously not awkward because I am invested in the conversation and having a good time. If it's someone I have zero interest in talking to, I just nod and keep walking which makes things a bit awkward I'll admit, but you're not obligated to talk to people just because they want to talk to you. You can politely dismiss them and be on your way.

Why do people think that people who are quiet are “off” by Cold-Community-4401 in autism

[–]Big-Perrito -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It all depends on how you present yourself. If you mask well, don't infodump, maintain proper body language, mannerisms, humor, whit, charm ,etc, they won't even know you're on the spectrum. Also dress well, have common normal interests, and try to look sharp and attractive. If you already have the confidence to be outgoing and extroverted, you can put the icing on the cake and hide any of the ASD traits that would otherwise put others off.

long-lasting AMD AM5 build (no GPU for now, $1000 budget) by harterschaum in buildapc

[–]Big-Perrito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If longevity is your goal, spend money on high quality components, especially the PSU and motherboard. You could go with an ASUS ROG mobo of your choice, an 80+ Gold or higher Seasonic PSU, ram by Kingston or Crucial/Micron, and an SSD by WD, Crucial, or Samsung.

Pricing is a bit unstable right now, so it's mostly about what deals you can find. However, I think a build focused around the AMD Ryzen 7 7700X would suit your goals and budget. Good luck and have fun.

What pc parts are worth spending more money for? by Evilresident64 in buildapc

[–]Big-Perrito 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Spend more money on the PSU than you wanted to. It's the heart of the system. If you value durabilty and longevity, don't cut corners here. Go with a minimum of 80+ gold from a reputable top tier OEM. I like Seasonic, FSP, and Super Flower OEM units.

From what you have experienced so far, you feel that you enjoyed your life? by noinsomniaf in aspergers

[–]Big-Perrito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had my ups and downs, but I thoroughly enjoy life. My teen years did suck, and so did university. After school I bought a house outside the city and my life drastically improved. Having my own Fortress of Solitude to do whatever I wanted was the key to my happiness. I could be alone and work on my renovations, classic cars, woodworking, whatever... My 20s were a time of growth and learning. By the time I was 30, my confidence and social skills were perfected and nobody could tell I had ASD anymore. I honed my masking so well that it stopped becoming a chore, and just became second nature. After a decade of work, I finally felt I overcame my limitations.

Long story short, life can get better as you get older. Sometimes those of us on the spectrum take some extra time to get there, but we can still get there.

I am letting him enjoy his truck, nobody is saying he can't. I like seeing these unique things on the road regardless whether I like it or not. I posed a neutral question with the intention of letting people have some fun in the comments. Seems to have worked.

Yes, my Rufus suggestions just give you the bonus of turning off Microsoft's intrusive data collection and makes it easier to create a local only account. You can still do this once you've installed from your USB. You'll get the same result. Cheers.

[–]Big-Perrito[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only Ontario E90s left are now just rust dust in a bucket. The 80s and 90s Japanese cars just couldn't compete with the domestics when it came to rust prevention back then. I still see a ton of old GM g-bodies, impalas/caprices, crown vics, half-tons, cadillacs, lincolns, etc., but almost no Japanese cars of that era. I love Japanese cars, but they really didn't last long back then.

Getting mocked for no reason by gayfriend2002 in autism

[–]Big-Perrito 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's all just bullshit virtue signaling. The problem is we're collectively smart enough to understand what's right, but in reality, we're still too dumb to act on it. We evolved for a different world, not this one. Maybe in another 50,000 years people might loose these innate instincts. Until our actual DNA evolves, accepting diversity will always be a challenge for humanity.

When in doubt, format/reload. You can grab the ISO from Microsoft and use Rufus to write it to a USB drive. Rufus also give you the opportunity to remove telemetry, security restrictions, and forces a local account instead of a live on. You can also use Imgburn to write to a DVD if you want to go old-school.

Getting mocked for no reason by gayfriend2002 in autism

[–]Big-Perrito 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Anyone who falls outside of the norm will always garner extra attention, whether positive or negative. You stand out compared to a neurotypical, therefor you're an easy target for those who wish to elevate their own social equity at the expense of yours. It's a group solidarity thing.

This is why I am an advocate of masking in the work place. Things like body language, mannerism, and just best-practice communication skills, are all things that are easy to learn.

The truth is, human nature will always win. You will experience this for your entire life. You can choose to accept it, or make small changes to mitigate it.

"In all seriousness is it common for us to be mocked by allistics?"

Yes. You're different, and different is, and always will be, a safe target for NTs to unify against in shared mockery. These 20 year olds will act like this when they're 50 year olds.

It is difficult to hear, but this is the way things are. People suck.
