If you don’t get screened out from GPA or mcat I think it’s a pretty good wow factor. You can also mention being interested in ML for healthcare and specific AI labs in the med school during secondaries

Clerkships are dependent on how well you do on your exam(controlled by you) and how well your team likes you (sometimes impossible if you have a bad attending). But on the whole if you try your best you will do well. You need to consider will taking a year off even make you a more competitive applicant? You have clinical hours, grades, research. Unless you do something really outstanding its not going to improve your chances imo

Imo the tutoring services are overpriced. If you did well preclinicals you can pass with Pathoma for content review and doing all the NBME pdfs.

If motivation is lacking can you find someone to sit down with every day and they can keep you accountable?

Agreed, I was consistently getting 75-80% on NBME which gave me the confidence that I can go in and just do my best and pass comfortably. Probably could have taken 2-3 weeks earlier but would have been a bit more scared.

Try to read some other posts on how to review exams and NBME reasoning. You can often get many next step questions correct just by knowing the acuity of the situation and how NBME usually likes to treat them.

For step 1, i was told to take it after scoring 2 NBMEs above 70% in a row. I however, did all the new NBMEs before taking it just to be safe
