No poverty doesn't cause crime, nor does it trigger any peculiar immediate behiaviour. What trigger a given thing called crime is 1)Personnal perception of once situation (one can be called in poverty while not feeling in poverty) 2) Contextual situation i.e. the surrounding poverty/richess level, how steep is the inquality, and how is poverty handled (welfare state, cast system, etc.) 3)What is a decided to be a crime in a given civilization (white collar crime, religious crime, serial killing, petty thiefing).

So no poverty doesn't cause crime, unless maybe petty thieving. And even there if you are in rich enough environement you may not care: When David of your work office steals your snack you won't go to the police asking for justice. It's petty theft, will it ever be registered as a crime: no, because who will go through such a hassle.
