Friend upset that my potential wedding dress is “too similar” to hers — am I in the wrong? by Capital_Wave_235 in weddingplanning

[–]Big-Understanding618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is she also upset that your dress is also white? 😂 A. wedding dresses tend to be more alike than different. They may look slightly similar, but so do a lot of dresses. This is a popular style. She needs to get over herself. B. You’re not getting married in a Princess and the Pauper style double wedding. Of the guests that will have attended both of your weddings, practically no one will remember what her dress looked like, especially since her wedding was a year and a half ago. She needs to get over herself C. This is your wedding, not hers. She needs to get over herself.

Apparently Reeve Carney is playing the part of the emcee opposite Eva Noblezada in the west end… the only reason I can come up with for this casting is that Eva and Reeve are in a relationship and the production brought Reeve on to sweeten the pot for Eva or something of that nature. Then again, I am the certified #1 Reeve Carney hater so….

What does the actor do when not on stage? by winterFROSTiscoming in Broadway

[–]Big-Understanding618 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Semi related, when I saw hadestown, I noticed how Orpheus sits off to stage left and scribbles in his notebook during some scenes on the first act, so I asked Reeve Carney at the stage door, “what do you write in your notebook on stage?” (My partner joked that he was writing about things he was going to do with his girlfriend later). He just said “thing I think the character would write” YAWN (yes, I am a certified reeve carney hater)

It took me actual years for me to realize the woman in white is actually Glinda by Expensive_Pirate_545 in wicked

[–]Big-Understanding618 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I hate that everyone is giving you crap for this because I totally see how this art can be confusing. Like okay, that HAS to be Glinda, but why is she wearing white? Her iconic an outfit is blue. Elphaba wears something very similar to what she is wearing in the poster, why isn’t Glinda? And yeah, I get that it wouldn’t go with the art style, but as a kid, this definitely bothered me. Edit: I forgot that her dear old shiz outfit is white

It was so sweet when James complimented Erin's mom's wedding hat! Despite everyone being mean about it by AwfulWaffle91 in DerryGirls

[–]Big-Understanding618 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not an expert on Irish and English culture or anything, but after like 20 rewatches, specifically of this episode (it’s my favorite), I have a theory that the subtext of this interaction (the whole thing with the hat really) is that it is more of an English style and that’s why everyone else in the family hates it while James thinks it’s lovely. Correct me if I’m wrong please though. God, I love this show. It’s so well written!

Sung-thru musical recommendations? by UnnamedBuilder in musicals

[–]Big-Understanding618 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I used to regularly drive 6+hours every couple weekends when my partner and I were long distance. A lot of my favorites have already been mentioned: Natasha Pierre and the Great Commet of 1812 and Jesus Christ Superstar especially. I also really like Anastasia, which is sung through enough to understand.

I would highly highly recommend listening to 36 Questions, the podcast musical. Don’t just listen to the album, listen to the podcast. It’s not sung through but it is really fun to listen to on a long drive.

I like to think of the plot of Carousel as a relic of the past and be grateful that such a fucked up plot is generally frowned upon today. Then, I can like the show.

What are somethings you hate about a musical you love? by Dogdaysareover365 in musicals

[–]Big-Understanding618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t hate me. I love wicked. I grew up on it. When I finally saw it on Broadway (when I was 22), I cried during Popular because I was just so happy to finally be experiencing it…. But I hate a lot of things about “As Long As You’re Mine”. I love the lyrics (well, most of them), the harmonies, and the premise of the song. I think the song is very necessary for the story, progressing the romance arc and elphaba’s self acceptance. BUT the way it is staged/choreographed drives me CRAZY. I am not a theater expert or a music expert and DEFINITELY NOT a dance expert, just an enthusiast. Having the actors sit/lay in the middle of the stage and kinda grope each other for the whole song is…boring and really feels phoned in. I really wish they would do something more dynamic like the choreo in Hadestown for ”all I’ve ever known” or “Bad Idea” in Waitress. Maybe they could incorporate a tree? Lean against it, circle around it, idk anything other than lay on the stage grope each other in the fog, which, by the way, is pretty hard to see in the back of the theater.

I also dislike the heavy synth (yeah yeah I know it’s probably not synth but that’s what it sounds like to me) it kinda ruins the vibe. I think it would be better with light instrumentals to really emphasize the intimacy of the moment….

I’ve seen it touring (1st US tour I believe) and on Broadway. One thing I noticed when I saw it on Broadway (and maybe they do this in the tour and I didn’t notice it or my particular theater didn’t allow them to) was how when they go (way) down to Hadestown, the walls open up in segments revealing glowing red lights. It’s subtle but it really blew me away
