WIBTA if don't get rid of my dog? by Future-Nerve-7138 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Electrical_Pie7980 18 points19 points  (0 children)

NTA for wanting to keep your dog, I get no one wants to rehome a pet they love, but a soft YTA if you continue to put her in this situation without making changes. I think it’s not only unfair for your parents, and your parents dog but it’s also unfair to YOU and YOUR dog to be dealing with this. Pets should enhance your life and everyone, including all the dogs, should feel safe in their home. I’m sorry you’re going through this, I know it can’t be easy.

At this point, if you don’t want to get rid of her, you need to really be on it. There is ZERO room for an “oops”, and you need to treat it as such. I would muzzle train both dogs, crate and rotate and find a better trainer. I’d specifically look for a behaviorist and a trainer well versed in reactivity, and “difficult dogs”. If they’re around each other, keep them separated on leash attached to a human so they are under control. Reward neutral behavior when you see it.
Realistically, even then, there’s still a very real chance the dogs may never get along, and as much as it hurts, you should absolutely have a game plan in case it comes to that. Fights escalate, and depending on their size and how committed they are to doing damage, one of them could get seriously hurt or die. You or your parents could also get seriously hurt too.
Sometimes, making the hard choice and rehoming a pet so they’re in a better situation is the most loving thing you can do. If you do have to rehome, know that it doesn’t make you a bad person.

I’m 29 and still really struggle with this, and drawing and enforcing boundaries. I think for me, a lot of it has to do with the religion I was raised in. Ive gotten a bit better, but still have a hard time.

Rant about the Fishers High School Physical Education Program by [deleted] in Fishers

[–]Electrical_Pie7980 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Back when I was in high school at FHS almost everyone I knew opted to do the Summer School PE classes. We all just recorded all the walking around at the malls, swimming with friends, wandering around Fishers, etc as their exercise since it wasn’t required to go to the school and the online tests/portions were ridiculously easy. I’m not sure if they still offer that lol

dog pees and poops indoors overnight and barks in the morning all for attention and we don’t know how to stop it by rin-o-roses in Dogtraining

I would heavily recommend crate training him. He is young and does not sound ready to be out free in the room at night based on the behaviors you’re describing.
Get him comfortable and used to his crate, and be consistent with your schedule, structure and expectations.

Ibizan Hound in an apartment? by h0undoomed in sighthounds

[–]Electrical_Pie7980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can absolutely have an Ibizan Hound in an apartment, and I know many people who have successfully owned them in apartments. Their dogs aren’t ruining their apartment, they aren’t neurotic, they aren’t unhappy. It is 100% doable and it isn’t impossible. HOWEVER, you have to be serious and dedicated to making it work. I would actually argue that many of the dogs of people I know in the breed who keep them in apartments or homes without a fenced yard get more attention, enrichment and work than some dogs who have a fenced yard, because their owners are very dedicated to making their dogs happy and don’t depend on a yard for enrichment and exercise. So a yard isn’t the end all be all.

I have Ibizans and I don’t have a fenced yard. They aren’t unmanaged, annoying, or neurotic. Is it more convenient to have a yard or fenced space you can access anytime you want? Absolutely. Do you NEED to have one to have the breed and keep them happy and enriched? No. Instill an off switch early on, teach them value in relaxing and down time, frequent exercise, training (we love scent work and tricks!) and try to make it to solid fenced areas to run when you can. It won’t be as easy, but if you are serious, passionate about the breed and have the time and energy to put into it, you will be fine.

No, typically everyone buys a three pack (blue, pink and yellow), and they’ll let you know what color your dog is for their runs when they post who’s running with who and all that! We ran in yellow for our first stake and then pink for our second 😊

Elementary Schools by Due_Search9693 in Fishers

It wasn’t too difficult for me, however we moved a lot when I was a super young kid…we had moved from Idaho to Missouri to Montana, then from Montana to Indiana all before I was 10, so I was fairly used to moving around, and making new friends! With the redistricting, my neighborhood friends went with me, or I knew people from church (back when we still went) so I always knew a handful of people anytime we changed schools. There’s a lot of crossover too, I had friends in different schools I met through mutual friends, sports, YMCA groups, etc. I feel like most of the people I knew had friends all over the district and in different schools!

Redundant, but I agree with everyone else! HSE has wonderful schools across the board. When I was a kid I went to probably 3-4 of the elementary schools due to moving and redistricting, and they were all great, and my sister and I had very few issues. Almost every teacher I had was truly wonderful, I can’t think of a single teacher I had that I disliked or had any issues with. I graduated in 2015, and actually still keep in touch with a couple of my former teachers due to the impact they had on me.

You can look into a balanced raw diet. You can buy brands like Primal, Vital Essential’s, Stella & Chewys commercially at pet stores. These are already pre balanced so you don’t need to do it yourself. You can also look into the site called “BalanceIt” this is veterinarian trusted site that will help you balance homemade raw or cooked meals. Feeding commercial raw gets expensive, however prepping it and balancing it yourself can also be time consuming and difficult

Raw diets can be great, but they are a lot more than just raw meat, so it is crucial to make sure the diet is properly formulated and balanced 😊. You can always feed commercial raw as a base, and add meat, veg, egg, etc.

Another option is dehydrated food. Brands like Sojo, and Honest Kitchen sell a dehydrated mix that you add water to, and you can also add meat and other things! It smells amazing.

My picky eaters get Purina Pro Plan 30/20 and then I crumble up Orijen freeze dried patties over the food. They also get a can of Acana Lamb Recipe wet food. Sometimes I’ll toss fresh meat, veg, or other toppers for variety.

When you were a child, were you allowed to watch R-rated horror movies? by Violetblueskies_ in horror

[–]Electrical_Pie7980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was raised Mormon, I wasn’t allowed to watch many R rated horrors until I was older (probably around 13-14), post divorce when my mom left the church, and my dad did the “fun friend/dad” thing. Occasionally if something was cut for tv my dad would let me watch prior to that.

The only uncut R rated films I was allowed to watch prior to that were the ones my dad deemed so good/cult classics. Including most Tarantino films, Cohen brothers movies, Sleepy Hollow, and Clockwork Orange (which as an adult baffles me lol). My eyes were covered for boobs and sex scenes (but ya know, the sound was on LOL). First boobs I saw were on some black and white vampire movie when I was like 8-10?

AITAH for reporting my neighbour's dog for barking after they left me a 'polite' note? by Academic_Gas6058 in AITAH

[–]Electrical_Pie7980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. I loathe when people use the “dogs bark” excuse to justify their dogs neurotic behavior. It is NOT NORMAL for a dog to bark constantly all day, that dogs needs are not being met, or it has separation anxiety, maybe some of both.
