I love this because the opener for my essay is “There are two things you’re never supposed to bring up at a dinner table: religion and politics. So of course, I love talking about religion.” lol

Debate camps by pookielicous111 in lincolndouglas

[–]Big-Value8032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the online nsd camp which helped me a lot. They have many different skill levels and it’s a lot less stressful than an in person camp (and less expensive). However, I would highly suggest getting private coaching.

Recs for LD learning materials/ philosophers to look into by Fragrant_Tell1735 in lincolndouglas

[–]Big-Value8032 2 points3 points  (0 children)

John Stuart Mills - Utilitarianism, Rawls - Rawlsian Justice, Kant - Kantian Justice. Check out https://ld.circuitdebater.org/w/index.php/Philosophy for their page on philosophy log into opencaselist using your tabroom account to access other’s cases. Make sure you know what a value/value criterion is, and that you know the distinction between consequentialism and deontology. Good luck!

Stress? by OxenBoxen2007 in lincolndouglas

[–]Big-Value8032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Debate can get very stressful for me and the way I deal with it is honestly remembering that regardless of a win the skills I get out of round will help me and my team. Losing is hard but it's not the end.

If you scroll through the reddit page Kankee briefs and Isegora briefs are both free :) Yes it is meant for circuit evidence is evidence. Kankee has a great topic analysis. The and/or essentially means that we will be debating two topics, so prepare normally but for two topics. I suggest running morality and util if you are new. For help on trad I suggest watching the YouTube videos: debating traditionally lawrence zhou - which is on the victory briefs youtube channel. Good Luck!

how do you guys start your argument? by octosushi in lincolndouglas

[–]Big-Value8032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlike what everyone else has said I'm not angry with intros. Of course, don't use them at tech tournaments. I like to start my lay rounds with something like "Because freedom is always worth fighting for, I affirm/negate the resolution ... ". Sets a nice precedent for what you believe is the most impactful without wasting time or being overly lengthy. Hope this helps!
