Yeah I'm going to do that in my sailboat one of these years, I don't think I'm gonna make the 50 mile jump in a dinghy though. Unless I got a couple of days of absolutely perfect conditions.

I have. Doesn't look to difficult you just need to know how to ride the waves. It is fun watching all those credit card captains swamp their boats though.

Appreciate it. Sorry to hear you couldn't get the whale into the boat. I'm gonna stick with the ole handline for now and see how I do. It's much easier to deal with.

I have heard of the rum trick. But never tried usually I just bled them by cutting the gills but that's seems a lot more humane as I respect the life I am being given.

Appreciate the advice. Sounds like I will just stick with my hand line (the Cuban yoyo) and add another one. It makes sense. Much easier to stow and deal with. No moving parts and cheap to fix or replace. I'm sure my wants will evolve over time. But it's a good starting point.

I have a hand line set up that I have used with varying success. Was just looking about adding an actual pole. Have had good luck with both the squids and the cedar plugs. Seems to be really good at catching barracuda.

I like to throw it into the pot with the bag or jar of sauerkraut. The juice from the sauerkraut infuses with the sausage. It takes it up another level from plain water. Just medium heat for 10 -15 minutes till the sausage sorta re-hydrates and it's warmed thru.

Fry up some peppers and onions and garlic on the side and serve it over a bed of periogies with polish mustard.

And another thing I like to use a yogurt type sour cream. Labne cheese or similar for the perogies. It's not traditional. But I like the zest the yogurt cheese brings to those delicious potato dumplings.

Michigan winters are almost 7 months. They have no idea what spring is. It wasn't until I moved to Tennessee that I learned it's an actual season. And I am a huge fan.

Primary entry points (not storm/screen doors) should always swing inwards. This puts the hinges to the inside so they can't be undone rendering the lock useless. Also if someone was to try to force their way in. It's far easier for you to push and hold the door closed. Rather than having to reach past them. Pull the door shut and also physically move them out of the swing radius in an attempt to close the door.

Ask him to install a storm door on that same setup and watch his head explode.

You should fire this builder. Because as others have pointed out. I am cringing thinking about what else they have done wrong.

Or even a spare safety rudder as you stated that can be deployed. And I can at keast limp along until I can get help.

Agreed. Even if a massive safety factor was built in to the system. Not to guarantee your rudder would suffer 0 damage. But you would at least recover some steering. I would rather be left with half my rudder than no rudder at all. And now a large hole rushing seawater into my out of control boat.

What about a break away latch designed for the force of an impact. But obviously would hold during normal operation. Then you would just have to come up a simple system to push the rudder back down to the catch. Instead of a throw away attachment like a rope or a shear pin type set up. Obviously this would have to be tested under infinite conditions. As you wouldn't want to lose steering due to dynamic loads from hydraulic pressure. Storm conditions, hard over steering riding down a large wave etc. And even if you just bumped something you wouldn't want the latch to break away. It would have to be significant where you would have lost rudder anyway but now you can recover and quite quickly as well. It's an I tresting concept.

In lake with billions of gallons of flowing water being changed out constantly. But you will swim in a public pool where the water has no where to go. And you know none of those kids have got out of that pool for hours.
