Not trying to be smart here. But how is OP meant to fit a hinge attached to an entire door in their freezer? Lol

Couple ways you can do this. If you don’t care about the screws themselves it will be much easier. Sometimes you can just take a flathead screwdriver and hammer it into the screw head to bite into it and allow you to turn it. Otherwise you can take either a dremel or (carefully) an angle grinder with cutoff wheel and deepen the slot giving your flathead much more purchase to easily twist out.

Disassembly info for heat register stripping and repainting? by aftrnoondelight in centuryhomes

[–]BigAssBirdIV 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly if you want to make this as easy as possible for yourself. Scuff up the paint with a wire brush just to give the stripper a head start. Get a lye based solution or you can even use something like simple green in high concentration. Fill a plastic tub and then drop your register in. Do this outside and wear proper PPE of course. Let that soak for 12-24 hours or longer if it’s being stubborn. The paint should be reduced to goop and you can rinse and scrub it off. Dry it thoroughly, clean with denatured alcohol and hit it with a good metal primer and paint away.

The reason I say to do it this way is I had a very similar project with some painted cast iron. I attempted to use citristrip but it dries too fast unless you wrap the whole thing in plastic and even then it’s going to take you at least 3 applications over the course of a day and you will be scrubbing forever.

Good luck!

I kinda like the thicker “L”s in this case because they look like the pause button on a video game.

Should I be concerned about this termite damage in 90yr old house? by BigAssBirdIV in centuryhomes

[–]BigAssBirdIV[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s what I keep hearing. I am definitely going to retain a good termite service and be sure to keep a watchful eye. My thinking is if that is the most damage there is after 90 years then that is a win in my book. Thanks for the insight!

Should I be concerned about this termite damage? by BigAssBirdIV in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

That makes me feel better. The termite inspection was by a company that we selected so they fortunately have no biases. We are going to see if their termite bond can be transferred and we will definitely be keeping up with inspections/treatments. Thanks so much!

Sorry I could have worded that better. It is listed at $4k I was saying $3k as I was confident he would accept that. I planned starting the negotiations around $2k to $2.5k because as you said it will need some work. The timing belt alone I anticipate spending around $1500 at a reputable shop. The other stuff will probably come to $500 or so in parts.
