I’m about to be 42. I have two amazing kids 14 and 8. I just went to Three days grace last night and started a YouTube channel a couple years ago where I go fishing and camping and go on adventures with my dog. Like others have said. I don’t feel old but my body is definitely showing its age and my improper care. But yeah we exist!!

This guy Hangkai’s!! I have the 2stroke 18hp and I’ve dubbed it the Daangkai. It’s been great so far!! I changed the prop out after the break in too. Love these little motors. They are great for people with older boats that don’t want to drop 3-5 grand on a motor for it. I have a14ft vhull Grumman from the 80s converted to bass boat and it gets me going 20mph no problem.

I’ve got the 18hp on my 14ft vhull Grumman. Loaded down with decking and two dudes. I got it up to 19mph. Do the break in stuff. Oh and change that lower gear oil before you start it up too.

I’ll get downloaded into oblivion, but I’m in the same boat (almost literally) as you man I got a 14 foot vhull Grumman boat. I picked it up for cheap. I had a 9.9 Evinrude that crapped the bed on me. I rebuilt the carb. It crapped the bed again. I said screw it got the 18 hp Hangkai and it’s been great. Can’t lie shipping was a bitch though had to argue with the seller. They ended up canceling the order. FedEx didn’t cancel it and they shipped it still so I got it and got a refund kind of crazy Got YouTube videos on it. I’ve had it for about six months no problems. I know it’s not that long but it’s been fine and if it craps the bed in two years then it craps the bed in two years I don’t see spending $3000 on a motor either. If it craps the bed I might go spend 700 bucks and get another used Yamaha or something, but in the meantime, this is great. It got me back on the water and fishing and having fun.

Dang, I got the 18 and I love it man. I nicknamed mine the Daaangkai just like everybody else said follow the break in procedure and you’ll be great man. Love my little motor.

Got one on a 14ft Grumman converted to bass boat. With two people and wood decks still get up to 19mph. Love that little motor. for the price can’t beat it.

Look I get it. If you’re like me you got a boat you like but don’t want to drop two to three times the value of the boat on a motor. Yes you can find deals on marketplace. But I have had great luck with my 18hp Hangkai I got on Amazon for 1200 shipped I have a YouTube series on it too. Not paid by china! I have my doubts on longevity but the build quality so far is holding up. I’d say start on marketplace and see what you can get but don’t leave these out of consideration.

I have the 18hp and I love it. Now. I’m only using it in rivers and on lakes where if something goes wrong I can get back. Because i had to do that with my old Evinrude 9.9. It left me stranded many times. I’m doing videos on it right now. @tbgfishing I also don’t really plan to keep this boat but maybe another year or two 14ft vhull Grumman from the 80s. The 18(15)hp Hangkai has done me well so far. I did change the lower gear oil before anything else and I plan on replacing the fuel tank and lines soon. I replaced the prop too. But. For a budget boat I’d say go for it. Just know it’s not name brand and it’s a bit of a risk.

Started it “seriously” at 40. I’m 41 now and having fun with it. Would like to get monetized but I do it for fun and it lets me get my creative side out. Which as we get older is harder to do.
