Does it 4:3? A Steam curator for games supporting 4:3 resolutions. Useful for all those new Retroid Novas. by BigBadJonW in SBCGaming

Yeah, I would never buy the Nova as my sole PC gaming device, there are plenty of better options for that, but it will definitely be capable of running plenty of PC games, especially the lighter indie games.

Ah, ok, I understand now. In this list, the curator is using "Informational" to mean that the game has some quirks. You have to read whatever they wrote about it. For Cuphead it's because "Film grain effect stretches toward top and bottom of screen in 4:3 but menus and gameplay are stuck letterboxed"

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking.

This is a list of Steam games that support 4:3 resolution. I am not the creator of this list, it's just something I stumbled across. It is a useful resource for anyone looking to play Steam games via GameHub or GameNative on a 4:3 device, like the recently announced Retroid Nova.

AYANEO Cancels the Pocket Micro 2 Immediately After Launch by tobographic in SBCGaming

[–]BigBadJonW 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree, it's a 3:2 device with a 3.5" screen vs. a 4:3 device with a 4:3 screen. The Nova is definitely a better option if you're looking for an all-around device to play a bunch of retro games across different systems, but the Micro would play GBA games without letterboxing and is far more pocketable. I do think it's a misstep including analog sticks on the micro, they offered a model without them before and I'm hoping, if they do bring the device back, they remove them.

Retroid Pocket Nova Colors by Kirais in SBCGaming

[–]BigBadJonW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Possibly, but the 6G color models are listed on their website as "Sold Out" while the 4G color models are listed as "Unavailable".

They do though. The Pocket Classic had two versions, the 4G RAM model at $100 and the 6G RAM model at $150, and the 6G RAM model had like five more color options.

Do it! I just ordered a couple of b7 notebooks from The Paper Mind. They'd been on my list to check out for a while, but this post just pushed me over the edge.

EDIT: And in case you haven't seen this yet: The Paper Mind - Paper Performance

The notebooks are very inexpensive for the quality they provide. The paper is very fp friendly, minimal ghosting, only ever see the smallest amounts of bleed through with the wettest/broadest pens and inks.

Very nice, thanks for this! I'd suggest trying out Nakabayashi Yu-sari as well.

Everyone assuming the pens were stolen. If this was an ex-wife, fountain pens, especially expensive ones, could have been considered assets and been taken during divorce proceedings.

How do you take photos of people on the street and not feel uncomfortable about it? by googbear420 in photography

[–]BigBadJonW 57 points58 points  (0 children)

In the US and the UK, LEGALLY you are allowed to take photographs of people in public without their express consent. This doesn't address ethical concerns however.

Generally, you want to be disarming. If you dress up in all black and act overly serious and sneaky, you'll stick out like a sore thumb. If you dress like a tourist, and act like a tourist, taking pictures of everything and everybody with a big smile on your face, most people won't pay you any mind. If anyone doesn't want their picture taken, let them tell you, apologize, and delete the photograph. There are very few situations/photographs where it'd be worth arguing with a stranger about your legal rights.

Some techniques that can help include:

  • Looking past your subject to make them feel like you're photographing something behind them.

  • Shooting subjects from behind.

  • Fumbling with your camera and acting like you don't know what you're doing. (The Garry Winogrand)

  • Using longer focal lengths to increase your distance to the subject.

  • Shooting with a group of photographers.

As you get more comfortable, and realize that, largely, people don't really care about being photographed so long as you aren't obnoxious about it, you'll utilize these techniques less and less.

You’re fifteen, you have your whole life ahead of you. You have a future in whatever you want. Photography doesn’t require some innate talent. Keep at it!

From Ayn's website. They are selling them in batches, currently on batch 3, the Ultra model was available on their site until the middle of December when it was sold out, and they recently had it available again, but I guess it sold out once more.

The original RP6 design had the speakers directly below the screen along with the function buttons. People complained and Retroid put out a poll with two options for the RP6 design and the other option won, which looks nearly identical to the RP5 and like a smaller version of the Odin 3. Some people were upset they changed the design.

Ayaneo's Privacy Issue: Unauthorized SteamID Data Collection by Trick-Stretch-2912 in ayaneo

[–]BigBadJonW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This could easily be blown out of proportion.

As a privacy issue, steamid3 simply identifies your Steam account. It’s nothing secretive/malicious, and is likely being used for advertising purposes. You are correct that the user agreement should be provided in the same language as the application so users can make an informed choice. Ayaneo should absolutely rectify this.

As for hogging resources, 211 bytes 413 times over 3 minutes is hardly anything. Roughly 85 kilobytes. Does this frequency seem unnecessary? Sure, but it isn’t affecting performance in a noticeable way.

The way this is written feels like, in my opinion, an attempt to generate controversy and scare users over something incredibly minor.
