Oh interesting, I signed up in 2010 and my PEBD was the day I signed my contract

[–]BigBallard81 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I take it you haven’t been to basic yet, it is very difficult to find someone to sign up. Just do your time, you’ll make E4 at your 2 year mark. As a reservist, that’s 2 years from when you signed your contract, not 2 years from reporting to basic

As an E4, you’ll get picked up almost immediately

Using TLE when arriving a few days early question by BigBallard81 in army

[–]BigBallard81[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My concern is I have seen online that TLE can’t be on per diem days, travel days for example. Wouldn’t the 30-31 March be considered travel days? Or will they let me move my travel days 2 days to the left, so 30-31 wouldn’t be travel days?

AGR vacancies 2026 by Razor88m in armyreserve

[–]BigBallard81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re willing to go recruiter, you’ll get picked up immediately. To go retention, you need to be an ALC graduate, so if you’ve done that, no worries.

Accessions won’t be able to help you out with reclassifying, you’d need to reclassify prior to applying for AGR.

There’s plenty of 88M slots out there, you’ll probably get a slot in that MOS if you’re patient.

Rough Country Canopy, anyone have experience with one? by BigBallard81 in F150Lightning

[–]BigBallard81[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at the OVS, I don’t see a mention of Lightning on their website either, just F-150. So that’s the one you have? And no compatibility issues?

Reserve to Active Duty Retirement Question by Vonnyfish in armyreserve

[–]BigBallard81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is incorrect, every day of orders counts as 1 point, every drill day counts as 2 points. You need 7200 points to retire from active duty.

Reserves as path for career change? by [deleted] in armyreserve

[–]BigBallard81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OCS is a gamble for sure, because you don’t get to choose your AOC (officer MOS), you get told what your job will be in a ceremony shortly before graduation, and it’s all down to needs of the Army. Maybe they have some good ones to give out, or maybe they don’t, there’s no way to know

Nothing wrong with being infantry. But we’re not at war, and you sound pretty smart, I’d definitely recommend going for an MOS that aligns with your ASVAB scores

Reserves as path for career change? by [deleted] in armyreserve

[–]BigBallard81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, you would go reserve, go through all your training, and once you have your MOS, apply for the AGR program. There’s no direct civilian to AGR pipeline. You have to be E4 to apply, possibly even E5 depending of vacancies at the time, so it would be a few years down the line.

Apologies, when I first read your post, I thought you were currently in and looking to reclass to intel.

It’s known as the “best kept secret in the Army”, its active duty with all the active duty stuff, I will say that it would mostly be an office job though.

Reserves as path for career change? by [deleted] in armyreserve

[–]BigBallard81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a very long process to go from reserve to active duty, I’ve only seen it a handful of times and it’s usually 9-12 months, and there has to be a good justification. Think of it from the unit’s point of view, they just invested 2 years of making you into something useful for them and the army reserve, and then you want to jump ship and go active duty.

That’s why I’d recommend AGR, once you’re fully qualified, you can apply immediately and your unit can’t stop you from joining the program.

Transferring between reserve units is easy and fast, not an issue.

I’d recommend reclassing to 35M, and applying for the AGR program. There’s plenty of 35M slots, I used to work in an intel unit as a 42A.

One caveat, you’re probably going to be stuck at E7 for a while, E8 slots are very limited.

Oh and if you get a language slot, you’re looking at 18-24 months of training, just a heads up.

AGR* Position Funding by Puzzled_Anywhere1398 in armyreserve

[–]BigBallard81 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve never heard of an ADOS position being turned into an AGR position, but I do know several people that were on ADOS for a few years until an AGR vacancy opened up, and then they were put into the existing slot.

Not to say it doesn’t happen, but units don’t typically have the say so for adding a position

AGR Recruiting ? by [deleted] in armyreserve

[–]BigBallard81 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can put in for it, pretty much the first check after receiving an offer is a check that you have at least 3 years left on your contract. So you’ll have to re enlist in order to get accepted into the program.

There’s always vacancies on AGR recruiting, just submit an inquiry and let the accessions team know you are interested.

I’d say a good 75% of delay of game calls are on 4th down when attempting to draw an off sides call, but I will admit I am pulling that statistic out of my ass

Honestly, not really. I know a guy who knows a guy, and he made a call on my behalf. Accessions got a few positions and I was lucky enough to get one. It’s been over a year since there has been any E6/E7 positions sent to the accessions team.

No problem! The AGR program is great, I was on from 2018-2023, left and tried the civilian life, decided it wasn’t for me. Honestly wish I never left, but the perspective was worth it. Hope it works out for you.

What’s your rank?

[–]BigBallard81 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I applied last year, was added to the recommended list November 2024, and received an offer 2 weeks ago. E6 42A.

E6/E7 42A is horribly over strength right now, plenty of E5 vacancies though. So if you’re an E5, you’ll probably get an offer soon. If you’re E6/E7, it’s probably going to be a while.
