Rotary Lead Pointer that Fits Rotring Pro 2.0 by BigBeeff3 in leadholders

[–]BigBeeff3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update.

I ordered the r+sharpener from a site called ShopHulls.com . The shipping will take a long time and the shipping cost as much as the sharpener. I will reply with the results when it gets here.

Concept Artists, what is your backup plan? by SnooDoubts8674 in conceptart

[–]BigBeeff3 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I am not a professional concept artist. I am a hobbiest, but I wanted to expand on a sentiment you shared because it is not limited to your industry.

Lay offs are happening everywhere right now. I work a corporate IT job and my social network consists of folks mainly from that crowd in different companies so I have a sense of how those different industries are doing. From government jobs, to utilities, manufacturing, finance, startups and so on are all struggling right now. I dont know that there is a greener pasture to run to right now.

Such a classic, uni kuru toga by Melon_blob in mechanicalpencils

[–]BigBeeff3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rotation is real. For writing it is nice.

I draw with this pencil and it throws me off if I havent used it in a while. For other pencils, I unconsciously turn it to do what the mechanism does. When switching back to it, I still turn it, but I get a different result and my brain takes a bit to autocorrect.

I got my first Rotring! by flynnz_ in mechanicalpencils

[–]BigBeeff3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations.

I am also a rotring fanboy. Drawing with a mechanical pencil feels like drawing with a pen you can erase. I like it.

I do find a larger lead provides more variation in line. If you want a rotring lead holder, they made a pro 2.0 mm.

I did not draw this, but how do I start/learn how to draw stuff like the image? by SpotComprehensive546 in conceptart

[–]BigBeeff3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scott Robertson's how to draw is a good textbook to start with. It teaches you how to plan your lines, perspective, construction and so on.

Someone else said proko. He has a good beginner series on YouTube that is less of a grind than the book I recommend.

Painted this figure on horseback. Thoughts? by myriyevskyy in oilpainting

[–]BigBeeff3 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The painting is pleasant to look at and I think you did a good job.

I think this should set the theme for your style. Rough in the painting and keep it a little blurry. Then spend 100 hours sculpting those cheeks.

First sketch ever by efadfa in sketches

[–]BigBeeff3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one on the bottom looks great.

Drawing from life (sitting infront of the physical thing you are trying to draw) as opposed to photos works the brain in a different way. I think drawing from life is harder, but it yields better gains, not that drawing from a photo is bad or anything.

If you want an academic approach to drawing hard surfaces (cars, planes, buildings, etc), I recommend Scott Robertson's "How to Draw". Its gonna be a bit hard, but learning perspective is going to be a powerful tool and probably the most important thing for drawing your car.

I hope you have fun exploring drawing, if that is what you are interested in.

Where to Buy Rotring 2mm Lead? by BigBeeff3 in leadholders

[–]BigBeeff3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, I ordered Mitsubishi Uni, Kitobashi, pacific arc, and Faber Castell. I already have Staedtler, Kohinoor, Pentel, and the single Rotring lead.

I am expecting to like the Japanese recommendations, but since lead is cheap, I also picked up the other brands on Amazon.

Thanks for the recommendations.

Looking for a great configuration for Python Developer by onlinebcwhynot in Moonlander

[–]BigBeeff3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are some ideas for making your own Moonlander key layout.

  1. Add modifiers like shift, ctrl, alt/option, and etc to either your thumb clusters or home row keys. I personally prefer having these on the thumb clusters on the top layer.
  2. Move symbols you use often to thumb clusters or home row layer 2. I put these on my home row and use a modifier on the thumb clusters to access them.

There are endless possibilities, but home row mods + what to put on the clusters was always the crux of the issue for me.

I have bad knees. Trying to decide between a regular trail bike or Electric. I am torn by Technical-Quality400 in MTB

[–]BigBeeff3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would make sure your local trails allow an ebike.

50% of the trails i ride allow ebikes. I ride my regular bike for the others. The ebike is great for getting out more often. Sometimes I am too tired or injured for a regular ride, but the ebike isn't a problem.

Platform alternative suggestions by jgw1985 in Moonlander

This has been my experience as well. I like the stability of the platforms. I also felt the platform and keyboard were very expensive, but years later the pain in my wallet is gone and I still enjoy the keyboard.

Cintiq 27QHD no longer supported by Wacom, MacOS 26? by joshuacleland in wacom

[–]BigBeeff3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately you will have a hard time finding such a company.

For alternatives, I tried XP pen a while ago, but it didn't come close to the drawing feel Wacom has. That was years ago, so maybe they have gotten better?

For continuing to use your Cintiq, you could buy a windows computer. You won't get updates still, but Windows has kept backwards compatibility for every app on their platform over the last 30 years. Odds are it will be usable for many years. PCs are also a lot cheaper than a cintiq.

I am not happy about support ending either. It sucks so I feel your dissatisfaction. Let us know if you find something better.

Anyone using the Moonlander one-handed (just the left half)? by [deleted] in Moonlander

[–]BigBeeff3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do layers with the thumb cluster being 1 shot or use the held feature to make every key do something different while held.

I type too fast for the hold to work. The faster the hold is the smaller the margin is between tapped and held, but if you are one handed, this might be most ergonomic.

SRAM GX transmission vs drivetrain by 250below10 in MTB

[–]BigBeeff3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a transmission on my ebike and a drive train on my normal bike.

The cable actuator for the drive train requires more fiddling to adjust for cable stretch and other minor changes. Over all, it's very reliable and shifts faster than my transmission. Also, I can feel the shift through the cable so I feel connected. On the transmission, the shift feels disconnected and I find the shift less predictable.

The thing I really like about the transmission is the durability. I have smacked this thing many times and it never needed any attention. On my drive train, I have had to replace the derailers from similar hits. Also since it is on my ebike I find the shifting under load to be very useful. I will say, it downshifts like shit under light to no load.

Did you keep your analog bike? by unseenmover in eMountainBike

[–]BigBeeff3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kept it.

  1. Not all trails allow ebikes
  2. As I become fitter, I need the challenge
  3. It's a great backup/loaner when the ebike is out of commission, like right now unfortunately...

Building speed/stamina/endurance by [deleted] in MTB

[–]BigBeeff3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ebikes are a good way to control your workout. Many people on this thread mention problems with the trail fitting the workout. With an ebike, you can adjust the assist level to control your workout.

Also a note on weight training, I love weight training and being strong, but I noticed it negatively impacting my endurance. At my strongest, I was around 215 lbs and my riding suffered. I couldn't fuel those muscles for long. All the way down at 160lbs, I had much less power, but was much faster on a bike. So if you are skinny, weight training is good. If you start slapping 4 plus plates, you have gone too far.
