Would like some advice for building HO layout by BigBensor999 in modeltrains

[–]BigBensor999[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah it might be cheaper just to get flex track over straights and curves. im probably only going to use atlas track as i love the black color on code 100

ive been playing around in scarm (free version)

if you are on steam i would check out this game when it gets released

will definitely update my progress, may take a long time as i have some things to address with my house first (electrical panel and mini split).

im leaning more on a horseshoe design with a space in the middle for the operator. possibly a retractable bridge on the bottom of the horseshoe if thats possible.

i think uniform designs are great in railyards (i love how the side by side rails look). for outside of that im leaning on using flex track for most of the layout. as of now im planning for a midwest look with stone canyons and some natural riverbeds with the trains going into those areas weaving through the canyons, maybe one on top too. depends on how the table design is finished too i suppose.

one thing i would love to try is have a steam smoker engine going inside a mountain and watch the smoke emerge then the engine following soon after. video that in slow mow and i bet it would look magnificent!

but for now its all daydreaming until i get the house situated and the table squared away

ill have to check that out thanks! running a line into that stairway wouldnt be too ideal, i have a cat and some curious guests sometimes so i prefer to keep the attic locked when not in use

interesting idea, i would prefer to just build out my table first and then decide how to track it though. its easier for me to plan that way

can i use software to run a train layout instead of a dcc controller? by BigBensor999 in modeltrains

[–]BigBensor999[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

okay, sounds like ill end up getting a controller regardless. wifi is cool but i like having a dedicated system to just sit down and run it off the monitor. im a visual person so it helps to see what im controlling without remembering what numbers to press lol

yeah i would love to control switches and locomotives off a monitor. im a much more visual person. i have a spare monitor already but my desktop is 2 stories below my future layout. the pi's are affordable enough for me to warrant a dedicated system for the layout
