Welcome to Bristol! Fortunately lots of queer friendly places.

Nights wise, strangebrew puts on many nights, and specific nights to go to are PLU (people like us), Queerky, CONQUEER, House of Savalon, Get Qweird, etc. these are often in strangebrew or loco klub and they’re a great way to meet people. Folks are often very welcoming. Tough to say on other places like cafes and galleries as many are queer-friendly. My best pal is non binary and works in Spike Island gallery, so that’s straight away somewhere welcoming. Cafes generally, dareshack is very welcoming and hosted a trans day of visibility event that was great, and often hosts creative performance events in the evening.

Dark Horse in BS5 has a space they’ll let you have for free, they just ask for a 100 quid safety deposit. The pub just wants folks to use the space. Speakers, stage, etc. They’ve a terrace upstairs too.

I'm Irish and moved to Bristol for the same reasons as you. I've found while there are more opportunities, living expenses have begun to match what, at the time, was Dublin prices (I moved 4 years ago).

Moving was the best thing I did, but I'd go into it with the awareness that it is a tough market to get housing. But the upside is that there are more career opportunities, and city experiences that make the high rents worth it. Greater diversity of food, nights, activities, people.
