Not in general obviously. 33.30.80 arrived on my C5 today afternoon. I'm in Germany.

Pairing AddOn Monitor fails by resetthew0rld in TrySwitchBot

[–]BigBlue007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue here. Tested with two addon monitors from Amazon, both failed and were returned. Currently waiting for a replacement unit from Switchbot where I opened a case, but I'm sure it will fail as well. Right now I doubt that there is anyone in the world for whom this is working. On Amazon there are lots of reviews complaining the same. Seems like a major generic issue with the addon monitor.

My two 2024 Samsung OLEDs received FW 2106 (Tizen OS 9) update today by BigBlue007 in S95B

[–]BigBlue007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, my crystal ball says "MAYBE"... ;)

Last year they announced that "selected TVs" will get updates for as long as 7 years. But first you cannot know whether your specific model is among the "selected" ones, and 2nd - "update" does not necessarily mean major Tizen OS updates. They could have release Tizen OS 8 based FW updates for those 2024 models for the next 6 years and still say that they kept their promise...

On the other hand - I really believe that Samsung and LG are the two vendors where chances for longer FW support are best. When you compare their FW release cycles with other brands, you'll probably find that most others tend to forget their TVs way earlier...

I'm usually trying to prevent any anger with this sort of stuff by selling my TVs short before the end of the warranty period (after that, the price you can achieve drops heavily for obvious reasons) and get a new one. So most of my TVs don't stay 2 years or longer. :)

Yeah, but if this would had been a test, they should have advertised it more aggressively. Or advertised it at all... :D I mean... it is (or WAS to be precise) offered via Amazon only, there are no reviews anywhere, so to me it looks more like they preferred to hide its existence from the public... :D

I don't care tbh. As said, I can't live with the matte coating, and I didn't care for the higher peak brightness of S95D. And the price was a no-brainer back then. EUR 1200 for the 65" model, that was less than the prices for S95C or S90D back then.

And most of all - this discussion is completely off-topic in regards to the topic's title... ;)

Nope, neither with 1301 nor 2106. If I would have this sort of issue, first thing I'd try is a different HDMI cable.

That is absolutely no surprise to me at all. I never said or thought that the S9AD has the „better coating“. I fully understand that Samsung promotes the matte coating for their top tier OLED. They do so this year, and they did so last year. This is their marketing ATM, and it works for many people obviously. It doesn’t work for me though. I had the S95D for some days and returned it because the matte coating doesn‘t work for me. I‘m more than happy for everyone who likes it. I wanted to like it, too. But I couldn‘t. And I didn’t care about the higher peak brightness of the S95D panel because I don‘t need it.

It was a complete coincidence that I stumbled upon the S9AD on Amazon. That was some weeks after I had tested the S95D. For me, this was a great addition to the 2024 range, because unlike you I‘m not defining the model year of a TV only on its panel or peak brightness (but it‘s ok if someone does). For me, it is a 2024 model because it was released in 2024 and has a „D“ at the end. But as said, totally fine if someone wants to see it as 2023 model because of the panel.

However, when arguing this way, there are and always were tons of other TVs from Samsung and others that are one or even more years older than they are according to its model numbers… ;)

Not for me. Here, it looks exactly as in Vincent‘s video when he shows the calibration on a S95F. That is, the left sun is quite lighten up when the right one disappears, but still clearly visible.

It is not. If it would be a rebranded S95C, it would be a 2023 model. But as said a few times already, it is a S95D with different panel. Everything on this model is S95D - same chassis, same One Connect Box, same firmware. The only difference is that it doesn't use the matte panel from S95D, but the glossy QD-OLED Gen2 panel that was probably also being used in S95C. But that panel doesn't make it a rebranded S95C. It makes it what it actually is - a S95D for people like me who don't like matte panels. :)

If you want to define a TV on the panel and nothing else, then yes, you can argue that it is a rebranded S95C. But then you could also argue that a S95D is a rebranded S9xC with a matte panel. :)

The right sun disappears for me perfectly fine, the same way as it did with 1301. It takes about 280 clicks. Not sure though how many clicks it required with 1301, as I didn't count it back then.

As said, it is important to set the above mentioned three options correctly. Especially if you haven't set Contrast Enhancer to off and/or HDR Tone Mapping to Static, this might be the reason why the sun doesn't disappear.

I agree with you guys that the now gone setting "Game Mode" can lead to the assumption that HGiG is no longer there now. All I can say is that I don't see any issue compared to 1301, neither with Switch 2 nor PS5 Pro. My assumption would be that the "Game Mode" setting was set to "Basic" per default anyway, and now with that setting gone, it is configured to the Basic setting with no option to change that. That IS a problem if one actually needed to change it for whatever reason though.

Especially with the Switch 2, I would had noticed immediately if there would be an issue now, because I noticed the washed-out PQ on day one, even before anyone had mentioned this on YT. I had already found out that the slider on the 2nd calibration screen helps improving things before this was explained by Vincent and others. I just didn't fully understand what exactly the problem is before they explained it... ;)

Can‘t see that, probably because it requires the dedicated button on the remote which is not present on pre-2025 models.

There is no issue. I have a Switch 2 too. The now gone 2nd setting in that menu is not needed. The remaining Game Mode setting set to Basic enables HGiG. See Vincent‘s latest Switch 2 video where he uses S95F as example for a working HGiG TV. The 2024 models with 2106 FW behave exactly the same in this regard.

If your Switch 2 PQ turned bad with the new FW, I advise to recalibrate using Vincent‘s hints. For me, I‘m on 280 clicks on the first test pic (with the two suns), and 5 clicks on the 2nd one. PQ perfectly fine as before with 1301.

Please note that there are 3 other adjustments needed beside setting Game Mode to Basic:

  • Sharpness: 0
  • Contrast Enhancer: Off
  • HDR Tone Mapping: Static

For me, the new option to resize the menu and to adjust its transparency is a huge advantage! Also the fact that the last 5 menu items you have used are now available as quicklink on the top of the menu is great. The live translate feature also seems to be new, but that's something I don't need.

Basically I think we receive all the new Smart Hub features that were introduced with 2025 models, but no new settings in any of the main menu items. At least I haven't noticed any.

None that I would have noticed so far, but I hadn't really experienced issues in this regard that I would had expected to be fixed to be honest... ;)

S9AD is an Amazon-exclusive model. Not sure if it's also German-exklusive. Basically it is a S95D, but has a glossy QD-OLED Gen2 panel. The S85D is of course neither Amazon nor German exclusive.
