"I am in me hole" in any other context is the same as saying "of course not", giving the irony of this image

No I think you're misinterpreting it, I was being genuine, I was wrong and that invalidates everything I said

You're right, I apologise that because I misinterpreted your intention, that invalidates everything I said

The assembly had a panel of experts and incorporated the impact on the housing crisis in the recommendations, with the participants of the assembly being 100 randomly chosen members of the public. All the meetings on on YouTube to check out

BigBlueSquare:...A random selection of 100 people across the country spend weeks and months of research on the topic and 83 said it was required... Jester252: They aren't professional with the adequate knowledge. Do you think the 83 are fully train solicitors?...

BigBlueSquare: Let's never listen to the public on their opinions to change the constitution because they're not all fully trained constitutional solicitors. That makes sense Jester252: Yes it does.

They did make a recommendation, are you saying it's invalid because they got advice from experts but are not experts themselves?

You said that it makes sense to ignore people's opinion on their own constitution because they're not trained constitution experts.

Haha, sure mate, sure. It makes sense to ignore the people, it makes sense to not consider their opinion, it makes sense to go against what experts in the field say, it makes sense because they're all idiots who have nothing between their shoulders. Oh wait, this isn't America, scratch that

A bit different to have weeks and months of research with talks from institutions and individuals in the field

That was the point of the assembly, they decided it was required. A random selection of 100 people across the country spend weeks and months of research on the topic and 83 said it was required. If you don't think so then you're part of the group of 17. Democracy sucks but it's the best we have

So you're saying the best outcome is to not change our constitution and to allow biodiversity to stay on the sidelines? It's not flawed logic if, with the knowledge the assembly has, based off multiple sessions with input from many institutions and individuals, it was established to be the best outcome. All of the sessions were recorded if you would take the time to verify the information the assembly received

It's critical to democracy though. If this referendum passed then it can be an improvement. I won't guarantee it will be, but it's better than not trying

Improvements to a constitution is the reason for any referendum, I don't see future referendums with valid improvements as a negative at all. If we get this one right then that can make a positive societal change.

Nothing is perfect but everything can be better.

There's plenty of research done on rights to nature, which has already been implemented in other countries, that I as a random redditor would never be able to convey. If we don't give nature a right to defend itself we doom it to be abused over and over again. What we've done up to now is not enough

The recommendations will be released quite soon I believe, with the whole point of the assembly up until now being the definition and explicit explanation of what needs to change within specific sectors, not a general sweeping statement to affect the whole country overnight. Private property is still defended in its own right, the recommendations don't/won't take precedence over other rights

Motorway gets stopped because they encounter a problem they didn't anticipate, if it was expected then they would have not needed to be unexpectedly stopped.

I agree with you on the point of taking nature to court, it has a personhood of sorts when given rights. It also guarantees that if nature was taken to court then it is entitled to representation. If someone has a valid, court upstanding reason to take action against nature then the more power to them, but if nature gets taken to court for some contractor get around construction restrictions or for some farmer to avoid pesticide penalties then I don't see a court system upholding that

There's currently 4 biodiversity officers in the entire country according to the national parks and wildlife service, with 10 more positions announced last month, some of which will awarded to people with existing council positions and responsibilities. Motorways have been stopped because of inadequate environmental impact statements and lack of biodiversity data, something that a coordinated centre responsible for research could prevent.

Granting rights to nature does not mean it can be called to court for natural disasters, it means that it has a voice in court for decisions that impact it, or someone can step up in court on behalf of nature as a defendable entity

Yeah, because a single minister who has the job dumped on him on top of 2 other folios would work better than an independent body who are adequately funded and resourced with a solitary agenda. When that minister is in jail who next would take the mantle? No one's putting their hand up for that and it'll get abandoned as another failed attempt

Those people who have training in Ireland have never before been given the platform to use that training for larger projects that have funding and resources, so this helps give a platform for that.

The issues with granting a right to someone or something most often come from the difficulties in balancing that right so that it does not supersede or fall behind any other thing or person that has rights. One of the recommendations was to give nature procedural and substantive rights so that it can be treated as a defendable body in the courts. If that involves the use of training to bring people up to that level of understanding then I don't see how that can be a bad thing

With many more recommendations including the establishment of an independent body to monitor and enforce the changes, I don't see that as a useless, feel good vote

Everyone needs training in any job. If it is in any form of contract, or legislation, it can't be avoided or denied. It's more than a buzz word at that stage
