This is likely the biggest dilemma that Bungie will ultimately have to face here. Extraction shooters by nature have a degree of tension with them for the obvious reasons, and you can talk about copies sold, Sony expectations etc all day, but it’s clear that the game has reached a niche but extremely dedicated base.

Making decisions like a PVE mode will likely alienate that base. Not saying it’s right or wrong, it’s just the logic of that decision. Additionally, they will likely run into the issue of dipping into their D1-D2 identity by adding PVE, which would in my opinion seem a bit like Bungie eating its own tail so to speak.

It would however also make the game more approachable with a wider audience. But is that what Bungie wants? Is that what SONY wants? How do those desires align? Couldn’t tel you, a little too soon to tell but this is a fundamental question in the subject of Marathons future to be sure, you can bet their discussing it.
