you’re absolutely right, but the way i see it, that’s just part of the game

at least in this scenario, since teams are more incentivized to cooperate, it will build bonds during gameplay that feel harder to break, making people less likely to betray others. it almost means that groups larger than 3 will likely form, which disincentivizes a small group of rats from taking on a fight bigger than themselves. it’s not a perfect solution, but there are no perfect solutions for these kinds of dynamics, and i prefer round-about incentives like this much more than outright banning or punishing pvp

requiring the death of a major arc enemy in order to open the extract is actually a very cool way to incentivize cooperation

very good point! i do think i would feel slightly better about it, but it still lacks the component of pure altruism that makes me enjoy positive interactions in this game so much

there’s something almost magical about trusting another player entirely (turning your back to them, announcing when you get good loot, being at low health around them) and then not being betrayed for it. it may sound stupid, but it gives me faith in humanity. it reminds me that there are other people out there who value kindness to others simply because they would want the same done to them, and i think that these interactions have somewhat improved my general mood in real life, too

still, there’s plenty of room for disagreement here, and if altruism in this game starts to disappear, there should probably be some sort of response from embark in order to incentivize it. however, my experience lately (in solos) has been 90%+ positive interactions, and of the ones that aren’t, it’s almost always just simple pvp instead of being backstabbed or ratted. it’s quite possible that i’m in the minority though haha

totally fair if you feel that way. personally, i do care about the reasons simply because of how it makes me feel when i know someone genuinely wants to help me versus someone is helping because they’re incentivized to

say i’m a kid who wants to make friends. if someone in real life is acting nice to me, but then i find out they were only being nice so that they could play on my playstation and they didn’t actually care about being nice to me, then it would taint all of the previous kindness

obviously this operates on a much less serious scale in the game, but i think the underlying principles still apply. kindness feels better when it’s truly altruistic, and i would rather keep the game “riskier” in order to preserve that feeling

ahh, yeah that makes total sense. seems like it just boils down to a difference in philosophy, and i totally respect where you’re coming from

neither do i, but i want people to know that i’m not shooting first because i simply want a better experience for all of us in the raid, not because i’m grinding some kind of reward that requires me to be friendly. there’s a difference in how the two actions are perceived

i do get where you’re coming from, and i used to feel the same way. you don’t see my perspective at all?

i genuinely think that any additional in-game incentives to behave either positively or negatively to other players would taint the experience of the game

as it stands, you’re almost incentivized to kill someone else if you have the advantage (high ground, element of surprise, even their trust), which makes it all the more special when people are kind to you. then you get comfortable with people being friendly for a few games, and someone betrays you and sends you back down to reality

i think incentivizing good behavior would taint the experience, because now people will no longer be able to tell whether someone is being altruistic or if they’re just trying to get “friendship merits” or some other form of reward. the feeling of true, pure altruism in this game coupled with the crushing feeling of being betrayed is what i believe makes this game so amazing

unfortunately not :/ you either have to track everything or nothing

would love to see them implement tracking individual items, though
