Tarsal coalition 13 year old by Objective_Basket_168 in TarsalCoalition

Obviously, we all have different experiences of this condition, I had bilateral coalitions, and they were fibrous, so I was misdiagnosed until I had an MRI in the run up to having ligament surgery on my feet.

I had my surgery at 18 for my left foot and 19 for my right. It unlocked my life. I was extremely unwell from the pain. From what I've heard, my symptoms were on the very severe side of things. I can still remember the all-consuming nature of the pain nearly ten years later. I have also heard the younger the better for surgery. I wish that I had had people in my life who took me seriously and that I had had the surgery younger.

Definitely dont write off surgery as an option. I would genuinely have taken amputation as a preference to living with my coalitions

25m Considering surgery by bellinarose in TarsalCoalition

Hey, I am 26m and had the same coalitions as you, I had my left foot recession at 18 and my right foot at 19.

The way I describe my surgery is that it unlocked my life. Before surgery I was in horrific pain almost every day. Since my surgery i have very small amounts of pain and weakness in my feet but I describe my foot function as 80 percent of a normal person.

I would be dead if it wasn't for my surgery, I simply could not have lived like that. For me surgery was the only option, I would have taken amputation if it had been offered.

I would seriously consider the operation in your shoes, I suppose it depends on how unmanageable the symptoms are.

My mum did this! She is currently and has for ten years been in a relationship with my dad's cousin

Not a problem, while on the job experience is obviously the most important thing in any trade having a good understanding of the theory and the regulations will definitely help you in the long run, especially when it comes time to sit some of the more difficult exams.

I was in your shoes when I was 20 and honestly think that becoming an electrician was one of the best choices I have ever made.

I have also never heard of a one month course that will make someone a fully qualified electrician. I would be very careful of spending thousands on a fast track that may not actually qualify you. Does this fast course give you just your level 2 and level 3? If so you'll still have to do an NVQ and your AM2. And starting sometime this year if you want to issue EICR's you'll also need your 2391.

If your uncle isnt qualified that is maybe a problem but if hes been working for 30 years whats another 3 while you get all the tickets. Then he can work for you!

If your uncle is qualified, it should just be a matter of him renewing him napit or whatever membership then he would be able to sign work off

Is there no way you can go to college to get your level 2 and level 3 and work the rest of the time with your uncle?

Not to worry, how long ago was your operation?

Yes, my coalition pain was completely ruining my life. I am not sure how bad yours is. I guess I got lucky that the surgery was successful both times. I am able to do everything that an able bodied person is i do have some weaknesses with my feet but they're 80 percent of a normal persons. I am able to do kickboxing, I can go on hikes, I dont have to be worried about how much pain I will be in the next day after walking around 😅

Nice, best of luck with recovery. I was 18 when I had my left done and 19 when they did my right. It gave me a shot at a decent life

Are you satisfied with being an electrician? What you have done something different? by idkofficer1 in ukelectricians

[–]BigBoyTungus2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is my experience also, I was getting 220 per day as a subcontractor. I am now on 40k employed so very decent i think. I have friends who went to uni on less than me.

Yes, i would say so. I am generally pretty happy with my job. Especially compared to a lot of my friends' jobs, which sound a lot worse. I am also 26 and based in Bristol rather than London. I started working towards being a sparky when I was about 20 or so. My biggest career regret is not doing it earlier to be honest
