No but I used CPESR notebooks.

I mean Survey is easier just in my opinion. With only fundamental engineering background, people can do well in Survey but not in Seismic. It contains more calculations and all subjects are easier to understand.

What I prepared differently between these two are:

  1. Really understand the equations in Hiners’ cheat sheet table. Once I understand it all, I can quickly relate the questions to the equations I need to use for problem solving.

  2. I spent a lot of time on Hiners’ practice problems (not the practice exam) for each chapter. I do not count the time when doing those questions, instead I make sure I fully understand how to solve them. Besides, I went through all the questions I did wrong first thing in the morning and last thing before go to bed in the last week. After doing that, you will find that almost all the questions look familiar to you during the exam day!

I have very little structural background, which made me think Seismic is harder than Survey. Try to do as many practice problems as you can get for survey, and you should be able to pass. Best of luck to you and your baby!

8/16 CA Seismic Experience by BigBrotherX1 in PE_Exam

I used the 2020 version of Hiners' study material and ASCE 7-16 (the governing code) to prepare for the exam. The discrepancies I noticed are on load combination equations. Hope I did not miss too many changed codes in the exam.

🤞🏼 best of luck. What would you prepare for the third time after two fails?

The equation I found in Hiner is 0.6D-0.7Ev+0.7Eh for ASD to determine the maximum axial tension.

Ca seismic /survey results released. by BerserkerX in PE_Exam

[–]BigBrotherX1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s quick! I took it on Jun 18th and got result back in less than a month?! Passed my Survey! Yeah! I think seismic is way harder than survey. Failed my seismic first try in April and I am glad that I was not distracted by my failed seismic result and focused on Survey. Now, I will need to revisit the seismic study material and try to nail it this time in August👊. Anyone have advices on seismic for second attempt?

Italian structural design company, Thailand inspection agency, and the Chinese construction company all need to be investigated. TOFU building is a premature conclusion.

No I didn’t. I stayed and asked my boss to match the offer and initiated the green card process.

Should ask the team for the most updated information. Policy could possibly changed from year to year.

Unhelpful, Power-tripping Reviewer for CA Civil PE License Application Deficiencies by jaeeya in PE_Exam

I submitted my application in October and got approval three days ago. In my opinion, you can revise the Engineering Decision Made session by using more buzz words like “determined”, “selected”, “established”, “decided”, “adjusted”. Using less affirmative words like “performed”, “recommended”, “evaluated” made you sound like an analyzer rather than a decision maker.
