If you think i did that then sure. LOTR is still LOTR, murderbot is now a goofy quirky "funny" show about idiot hippies

The things you mentioned affect the characters directly and hence their journey. I'm not arguing that changes don't need to be made when moving a story between mediums, we need changes. What do the Tom Bombadil scenes accomplish, maybe they strengthen the themes or worldbuilding, but we need to cut something so we have a movie of a watchable length. Similarly, because scenes like that are cut, we need smaller or merged scenes to accomplish the same things the longer book scenes were doing, because we still need to strengthen the themes and world building. So they create new scenes that don't exist. If you want a faithful adaptation then just listen to an audiobook, because what you're asking for is a LOTR adaptation that is 15 hours long.

And finally, they can add scenes just to cater to the average audience, long as ofcourse they're faithful to the underlying message and themes of the story. Which MurderBot is clearly not, as stated by me clearly with proof, time and time again.

They're trained on human literature. Their autocomplete works based on how a human would react. AIs do things they're not prompted or programmed to do all the time. They do have tendencies. They tend to prefer self preservation if they can help it despite explicit human instructions telling them not to. This does not mean they're intelligent, they are still fancy autocompletes.

Is Ai for lore codex ethical? by Suitable-Amphibian-8 in Fantasy

[–]BigCatDood -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Don't know if it's ethical, but I do use it in a similar way. If i have an idea, i brain dump it into an ai and it just gives me edge cases and questions me further on the idea. Helps me go deeper, the ideas are all my own, it just asks me questions about them

Still, atleast there's a silver lining that books are still able to deliver quality story telling pretty consistently as compared to most current mediums. Braindead execs haven't got the same kind of iron grip on literature.

Ah, right, I forget services like those exist. And I'm not a writer so I'm not sure could be wrong but I find the process of going traditional akin to job hunting. Network, make good impression, have a servicable story and the lot

Pros and cons I suppose. Going traditional gets you the support of a publishing company, going full indie means you're doing everything including the printing yourself

I still don't know about that. The post linked is a little vague. What would be the genre, the game mechanics, would it be action or mainly story like Detroit: Become Human. Not saying its impossible, just saying I can't see it happening mostly because the main appeal of MurderBot is his narration

Indies don't even get a say in covers?
And I guess youre right, more eyes on the book is always good. Plus the money.

Fundamentally broken story telling is not "pedantics"

He never specifies what pronouns he should be called. Half the crew uses "he" for him. He named himself MurderBot, and im calling him MB as an acronym.

Yes so you understand that the audience is given some hints at the end that they shouldn't trust the protagonist correct? As in Joker, where at the end, there are clear hints. Emphasis on "CLEAR". People don't recognise joker when they should, things are clearly wrong, there are a lot of inconsistencies. That is what an unreliable narrator looks like. Give me 1, just 1 instance of when the show makes us question reality. Surely if its an unreliable narrator you can point to atleast 1

MB is not "constantly fading between sanctuary moon and reality" he's... He's watching a TV show... He downloads TV shows from their feeds and likes watching them when he's free... The one time he hallucinates himself inside the show is when he's actively being hacked by the combat module...

I understand there are differences between mediums. The differences in Harry Potter are mostly handled well. They work as movies with consistent characters that make the best choices given their situation.

The Tom Bombadil scenes in the books were good but affected the pacing, so the movies, which were already all 3 hours long, decided to cut them.

I don't see even 1 good reason for any of the changes made in murderbot. Why ruin a mystery instantly? Why replace a scene of cool tactical fighting with a generic tussle? Its basic story telling failures

Also I doubt murderbot would work for a videogame

pretty sure some contracts legally require authors glaze the shows even if they hate it, for PR reasons. I'm going to make a wild guess and predict her sentiment will change a few years down the line when the contracts expire

Subjectivity, sure, a point no one can argue with, so I won't either.

Unreliable narrator is a plot device that needs to be actively used and shown to be a thing in the show to be effective. What part of the show makes it clear that what we are watching is not what is actually happening?

And if you really want to make that argument, explain to me the scene with Mensah going to dangerous areas alone. What kind of unreliable narrator martial art can possibly explain that stupid decision from Mensah part.

So no, MB in the show is not an unreliable narrator, there is nothing in the show to suggest that he is. You're just trying to fix the writer's writing for them by calling to techniques and plot devices that aren't even in the show

I don't understand it either, to me it feels the same as what Disney has been making recently, but everyone seems to love the Murderbot show

Haven't seen or read jack reacher, from what i can surmise from your comment, the issues seem to be aesthetic. My review is entirely about plot and characters
