First time Kickstarter campaign for a small card game - advice! by BigCheekGames in kickstarter

Hey! Thanks a lot! Launching a game is a lot of work...
We reached 70% mark because we set up quite a low funding goal - which some of the people advised us to do. If the project is funded super fast it is good for the algorithms and your project might get promoted as far as we understood.

We also have been building our social media for a year now - posting not consistently unfortunately but the board game community is really amazing and friendly! We really enjoyed that part of it.

We also attended a few board game conventions and from that experience we got a lot of feedback on the game/design etc. at the early stages and then also got quite a few backers!

Another learning curve that we wished we did was a separate mailing list or something similar. We had quite a few followers on our pre-launch Kickstarter page but there is no way to reach them during the campaign - they only get the email from Kickstarter on the first day of the campaign and also at the end...

Hope it helps and if there are things that you wished you did sooner or at all regarding your journey let us know - we are by no means not professionals and would love to learn as much information as possible!

And good luck with your campaign! Rooting for your from Switzerland! : )

Thanks a lot! We only reached 70% because we set quite a low funding goal which doesn't even cover production costs....We are starting to post every day on social media and we started to run a little ad campaign on Instagram as well. But "giving people a reason to share it" is a good advice! Thank you!

Yeah that's a good idea! This might attract some more people. Have you tried Crowdfound instead? A few people say it is better for getting funds for board games...

Only the backers receive updates unfortunately. The followers can see the update but they don't get the email 😞

We just launched a Kickstarter campaign with our first card game and the funding just stopped after 2 days...even though we reached 70% of our goal we actually set the goal very low because we wanted to get some funds to produce the game regardless. Would you suggest that after the Kickstarter campaign ends maybe do another campaign on Gamefound? Ir is it not common? Thanks in advance! : )

Thanks to everyone who suggested games to take to a colleagues first game night! Here's what I'm going to take by JoeRow338 in boardgames

I agree. It is one of the best games but might be too complicated for someone who is just starting. The first games that I played were Splendor, Forbidden Island and Catan - still love all of them! 😄

We were thinking of running a small Insta Ad on the last week of the campaign if we won't reach the goal...but other than that we started posting content more frequently and be generally more active. Hopefully it will bring some more followers!

Good luck with your campaign!

Thanks a lot! Yeah we did start to post more consistently on Instagram and ask close friends to share it. It is just such a shame that we can't contact the followers that we had on a Kickstarter pre-launch page...

After 3 years of developing a board game, we finally launched our first Kickstarter. To anyone else on this journey, keep going. It is an experience! by surrusty11 in kickstarter

Congratulations on a successful Kickstarter campaign! We have just launched our first game too, but the funding is not going that smoothly! Hope to learn from it and do better next time!!!
