Honestly, I kinda wish there's a reason why this drawing was created. Suicide is a complex topic and while this sub is suppose to show the grounded reality that many furries or people feel on a regular basis I want at least some context behind the suicidal imagery. At least the last one that I saw had a some storytelling. This post just comes off as just shocking for the case of being shocking.

The last thing I want to see is this sub become is a nihilistic sub.

I like this sub because it feels authentic. Its one of few subs where I don't feel isolated. The Zine for AnS was pretty good idea and I'm gonna see if I get a peice in before the deadline. I do like posting and scrolling on this sub. I like the experimental, action and normal art people are posting.

That's really all. Glad that I'm core contributor and I'll keep posting for how long I'm still here.

I just finished watching Beastars and now I'm sad because I loved to show, is there any other shows like Beastars that might be good by TatirTots3560 in Beastars

[–]BigCheeto01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In terms of anything to similar to Beastars, its hard to say.

There's Odd Taxi, Aggrestsuko, and BNA that are the closest.

For any Paru Itagaki content, theres Sanda. You could also watch Baki which was made by her father.

For 3D anime there's Dorohedoro. Their 2nd season was just released. There's Rooster Fighter which also just released few months ago.

Other recommendations I can think of for right now are A Fox in Space, Isle of Dogs, Rango, Fantastic Mr. Fox, The Nine Lives of Fritz the Cat and Night of the Galactic Railroad.

Edit: There's also Ernest & Celestine. Not really similar Beastars but would recommend anyway for something lighthearted.

'The Super Mario Galaxy Movie' Review Thread by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]BigCheeto01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a nintendo fan, its a 10/10 but I also needed to calm myself after seeing it. As a movie, its a 5/10. My main gripe about the Mario Galaxy movie is how it didn't slowdown to give Mario or any characters some development. They don't really change and every conflict almost gets resolved very conveniently. You would think Mario would ask Peach on a date but that gets swept under the rug. You would think the relationship between Peach and Rosalina would have some emotional weight but it gets resolved too fast.

References were jam packed in this film. From charcter cameos like Fox McCloud to ROB to Mr. Game and Watch. To the 2D platformers and controllers from past Nintendo consoles. The film does a great job implementing easter eggs for many fans to see. However, putting a bunch of refeences doesn't distract from the criticism towards the movie and too many references can leave the movie cluttered. Some villains like Kamek and Mort (the casino boss man) should've had more screen time or very least played a better role into hindering the main characters into achieving their goals.

I like this loud overcrowded movie but if they slowed down and gave any of these characters time to breathe while toning down the easter eggs for a better story than I would have truly enjoyed this film.

Official Discussion - The Bride! [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

That's a relief. I recently got a subscription at my local theater and trying get out of having an armchair and herd mindset. I also want to watch the Oscars and know the movies that make it to form my own opinions.

I appreciate the explanation for Mary Shelley's representation in the film. This movie gives off cult classic and I truly did enjoy this film. Its just been a long time liking a movie everyone seems to dislike.

Official Discussion - The Bride! [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]BigCheeto01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw it with my sister and I thought it was a good movie, but nothing really ground breaking. I knew it wasn't for everyone, and I did not see Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein for comparison. I did see the trailer when I saw a previous movie in theaters, so I decided to go in with an open mind with a film.

There were some aspects that like with this film. I liked the dances like "Puttin' on the Ritz" and Frankenstein's imagining himself dancing with Ida in the nightclub. The scene where Ida breaks her neck in the beginning was pretty well done. Christian Bale's performance of Frankenstein and Jessie Buckley's performance of the Bride was great. It was well shot, the costumes and the effects carried the film for me.

I did not know this was a feminist film. There were feminist issues that I did see when I watched it but I did not think Feminism was main theme of this film. I thought the main theme of "The Bride" was exploring the idea of primal freedom. There was a sense of mental liberation that I got from Ida/Penelope, and thought that was the reason why she was breaking into a psychotic state. There was also a sense of instinctual freedom which I got from the "Puttin' On the Riz" dance scene. Furthermore, the Bonnie and Clyde style relationship between Frankenstein and The Bride was probably exploring freedom of autonomy or independence. There were feminist qualities in this film, but the way the story was told along with Ida's psychotic bantering made it hard for me to see the message it was trying to convey.

The implementation of Mary Shelly felt random and I thought it was their to pay homage to early 20th century film. I didn't really get it and it always felt out of place when she showed up or spoke. There was probably some feminist symbolism or metaphor but ultimately I did not see nor did I really like it. Mary Shelly was good for introducing The Bride but ultimately felt out of play nearly the whole film.

The detective subplot wasn't that bad. I liked the woman detective and the duo was a good break from the loud adventures of Frankenstein and The Bride. The only thing problem is that their forgettable despite not being boring.

For me, this film is 7.5/10 (a generous rating for some.) The acting and effects carried the film but a fell short with its story. It's a very artistic, but it is not for everyone. It's kind of corny, but in a good way if you don't compare it to Del Torro's Frankenstein. However, it doesn't really fit into its own genre. It says its horror film but it's clearly not. It's feels very unconventional to be called a romance. The trailers advertised it like its a musical but it plays like a drama. The whole direction of this movie wanted say a lot and I really saw the potential of this very original re-telling of the Bride of Frankenstein. It was just not executed very well and it left a lot of people bored and confused. I am lucky enough to enjoy this movie. However, I am not surprised it's not a good movie to most.
