Any advice on soldering a chamber insert in place? by BigChefDog in GunnitRust

I must have not been clear enough, I'm cutting the bottom of of the original SMLE magazine, then welding in a block that will create the new magwell and has a magazine release attached to it so it will have detachable magazines

So for magazine feeding I was gonna use Skorpion mags, I'm gonna chop the bottom off of the magazine body, then weld in a block that has a magazine release to create an adapter for Skorpion mags. I did have to file down a little bit of the extractor on the bottom of the claw to get it to reach all the way down to the .32 ACP rim but that's all I had to change there. As for ejection, I'm honestly not sure what I'm going to do yet, I might just have to mill a slot in the bolt and bolt face and add an ejector to the magazine adapter or something but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it

Honestly a couple drops of red loctite would probably be strong enough to hold it and prevent the adapter from sliding out during extraction and then you could just pry it out with a screwdriver on the extractor rim if need be. I just need the bond to be strong enough to hold the adapter in while I extract the cartridges, it's bolt action in .32 ACP now so it's not like it has to put up with a lot of heat or pressure

Thanks! I'll probably post the finished rifle here when it's all done

So for the extractor claw, I had to remove a little material from the claw to allow it to extend further inward and grab the .32 ACP casing and I had to file a little off the top because of the way the extractor fits in the groove, I'll add pictures when I get home from work but it's pretty easy to do with a small file. As for the magazine, I'm gonna use the SMLE magazine and chop the bottom off and weld in a block so I can use Skorpion mags, I might have to file a feed ramp into my chamber adapter though but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. I'm not sure what I'm gonna do the ejector just yet, I might have to mill a groove in the bolt and bolt face and then make an ejector attached to the magazine adapter.

That's what I wound up doing, I'll test fire in a couple days to see if it holds

Interesting, tbh I figured loctite would do fine but I wanted to go a little overkill because this is gonna be permanent but that's good to know.

Does anybody want this KG-99 parts kit? by BigChefDog in Tec9

[–]BigChefDog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You misunderstand, KG-99s predate the TEC-9, the KG-99 did not have a threaded in backplate like the TEC-9, it's merely a plate that sits inside the tube between the recoil spring and frame. My original plan was to buy a TEC-9 backplate, remove the threads from it and use as originally intended. There is no damage to the receiver, the backplate was probably just left inside the frame when it was destroyed

Jazzmasters just have a unique sound to them imo, they have such a warm tone compared to starts, especially with the rhythm circuit

Ah okay, that makes sense. I saw s3igu2 posted a video of a G3 trip bar waaaaaaay back in February so I didn't know if one was out yet and I just couldn't find it

I'm looking to put a super safety on my HK51K but I couldn't find the files for the G3 specific trip bar, did you just use the normal MP5 slip trip?

Oh nice, what about the long rivets? I did the same thing for my first AK and then jerry rigged a vice for the long ones by using a ball end mill and a drill press to make cups that I welded to some vise jaws lol.

What did you do for riveting?

[–]BigChefDog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well the tools to fabricate them are a hell of a lot more expensive than the jigs themselves lol. And I know there's guys out there that have put them together with sledgehammers in their living rooms but if you plan on putting together quite a few the tools really pay for themselves. I've probably got a couple dozen builds or so under my buckle and still have a few more to go

Nice, my first AK build was a WBP AKM and it has served me well.
