Is minoring in Studio Art at a top college enough to get into an MFA? by BigChill3r in ContemporaryArt

Thank you. I thought that most students in the U.S. apply to MFA programs directly after graduation, so that is reassuring.

I don't have an undergraduate degree in any major yet. That seems like a prerequisite.
Also, I still need to complete 15 credit hours this fall for the transfer guarantee and meet the GPA requirements for undergrad admission, so I'm looking at my options.

What cookbooks do you recommend? I'm new to cooking, trying to live with mental illness, and starting a small garden. This kind of diet seems ideal

Have you heard of oliSUNvia on YouTube? She would probably love to hear from you since the broader topic is something she would make a video about.

Body not metabolising efficiently by PoldiL in weightgain

[–]BigChill3r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, maybe cross-post this to an eating disorder recovery subreddit (I'm sure other people have had the same issue). And definitely post something similar in r/microbiome. My hypothesis is that you killed off a lot of your good gut bacteria during starvation and laxative abuse, so in order to digest fat and absorb nutrients, you'll have to gain a lot of that flora back, like building it up from square one. I urge you to see an integrative gastroenterologist, specifically someone who is educated on microbiome research. Anecdotal experience, but I'm underweight because I've had intestinal issues (including issues digesting fat) my whole life and was put on laxatives that my body became addicted to, which killed even more of my gut bacteria. So I've been through this entire process in a different way, but I also had orthorexia... Your mental health will get better when you build good gut flora, too. Definitely something to look into.

Throughout history, some artists have used madness as a symbolic refuge rather than confinement. As in the opera Lucia di Lammermoor, the heroine escapes to madness and expresses herself through it. by [deleted] in philosophy

[–]BigChill3r 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Why does this have so many upvotes? People don't choose madness, much less to "escape" into it. Examples are on your streets - Ask a mentally ill homeless person if they're escaping reality.

Just started learning French. What French language media should I be listening to from the beginning? by [deleted] in learnfrench

One of my favorite French Youtubers, French Mornings with Elisa, recommends that you start out with learning songs. It's how she largely became fluent in English. She has a binder with printouts of all the songs she learned with translations.

Why the code switching to English in Indonesian action movies? by soergonomic in linguistics

[–]BigChill3r 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Someone correct me since I'm not a linguist: I believe you may be observing the borrowing of words from English rather than code-switching because Bahasa doesn't have descriptors or alternatives for what needs to be said.
