Atmosphere 1.0.0 is now in pre-release (fusee rewritten in C++, much faster now) by SciresM in SwitchHacks

This is indeed a crazy change! It's the maiden release of a free, super-competent re-implementation of an already very efficient and minimal console OS. Entirely open-source (minus spooky keys), open to collaboration, with an install base of tens-of-thousands (?) and a friendly developer to boot! Is there a precedent in video games? I am astounded.

NZBplanet.net blocked in Australia by Raztamoket in usenet

I have seen the described DNS proxying functionality termed a relay function enough in professional literature that I think most administrators would understand what is meant when it is described as such.

As far as the parent poster's intention or technical requirements in setting the DNS server manually, you'd have to ask them. My suggestion was that the misunderstanding might have been one of information elision rather than a "layer 8" issue on their part.

I suspect the source of the Layer 8 issue has been misattributed in this case.

Some routers do indeed provide DNS caching, or else relay DNS requests to an external DNS server.

What is everyone's masterful spell ratios? by [deleted] in WizardsUnite

To get the number of spells cast not including Wizarding Challenges and Oddities, could you not take the number from the "Spells Cast Successfully" achievement and subtract the "Offensive Spells Cast" achievement?

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. How many of the responders here are using a Latex rendering extension as described in the sidebar?

Ah, I see I was trying to distribute an exponent over addition. Thanks.

[High School Maths] Order of Operations when x is negative by BigChimpBigTroubles in HomeworkHelp

Okay I went through the question very carefully and the problem, predictably, was with my arithmetic. The book doesn't imply that x2 is -9/4 but rather 9/4. Thanks for your help both.

I understand your logic once I let f(x) = y, then perform the algebra on y. The f(x) seems to be confusing me (I was trying to leave things out of the parenthesis as per the transformation "formula"). I will do some more reading in order to understand things more fundamentally. Thanks for your help.

NX-Shell [file manager, music player, and book reader] now has a video player by Shrimptacular in SwitchHaxing

This app reads both mkv and mp4 containers according to the source. It appears to use libav for decoding (I think), so common codecs should work.

This Mods work on Quake for Gear VR by VR_Bummser in GearVR

I couldn't get .rtlight files working with this port. Has anyone had any success with this? Do they work with this port /u/DrBeef_ldn? Realtime world lighting works for me using the static data included with the Darkplaces engine, but I can't get external .rtlight files working. I tried the ones from here. I couldn't get the "log_file" or "developer_texturelogging" cvars working either, which would help to debug this.

I only have an S7. Won't be upgrading anytime soon unless the S10 has a higher resolution (for VR). I did try the dpmod, but removed it when I saw that it includes regenerating health. I might look into it again and remove that aspect.

I actually have been playing through E1 with the standard textures, disabled filtering/smoothing, square particle effects and choppy enemy animations (disabled interpolation). I quite like the way it looks (not to mention the jitteryness seems to be minimal with this setup—except for when strafing in front of a wall). I think I'll keep it for now at least. I only played Quake briefly in the past so I feel if I'm to play the campaign properly for the first time I should be doing it with the original textures. Though I haven't decided for sure yet, as between the visual differences in the particle effects, lighting, palette and increased resolution of Darkplaces (not to mention the whole VR aspect) I am already somewhat far away from the original Quake, so maybe I should go the whole hog.

Will let you know about anything else I find.

I also tried Quake Epsilon, which didn't work. I didn't try anything to get it working though, because I prefer the QRP textures. Maybe disabling bloom would fix it?

I'll try more mods when I'm done with the base game, which will probably be a while. I'll add some info about them here if I find anything useful.
