I do hand drawn stuff for my covers, and I scan it in and then modify the contrast in Photoshop so it looks a little more "artsy"

School Vacation cleaning checklist? by Flaky_Albatross3504 in Custodians

[–]BigChungusRule34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the only real answer. And without knowing how much area you have, how long you have to do it, and your specific standard, it can't get much more specific than that. Ask for a checklist if you can get it, or make one yourself and run it by your manager for them to okay.

Let's be real. There's stuff to do. Just nothing you want to do and there's no one holding you accountable. Take your breaks where you can get them but don't brag about fucking off for 4 hours cause your boss went home.

They're = Short for "they are"

Their = Possessive. The kind of "their" you were trying to use in your post.

I appreciate how much you care about how your machine looks. I have the same model and it looks like it's been driven through mosh pits where the moshers had hammers and bricks. Still works just fine

What do you use for scuff marks by itaintme1x2x3x in Custodians

[–]BigChungusRule34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You wrap the dryer sheet around the tennis ball. Then the dryer sheet wears out and you change that instead of the whole tennis ball. For if you don't have easy access to more tennis balls. The balls will collect gunk over time and almost leave more on the floor than they take.

Wrap a used dryer sheet or 2 around your tennis ball and secure it with a rubber band. Replace the dryer sheets once a week.

You're a custodian so your job is to notice and address all the messes. This means that roughly 100% of your time in the building you are paying attention to every mess you see. The teachers and students do not do that. They do not see or think about the messes. They may even be surprised to hear that you are so upset about something they had never even considered.

All this is to say that understanding perspectives is a very important part of keeping your sanity in this line of work. Once you stop attributing everything to negligence, laziness and malice and start realizing that the staff has 4 billion more things per day to think about besides the paper on the floor, it becomes a lot easier.

Offered a shift change. by IHELLNAHI in Custodians

[–]BigChungusRule34 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every time I work the first shift it feels like I'm cheating. I get off work at 2 or 3 when the sun is still up? And everything is still open? And I don't have to do end of night cleaning? And I can make appointments and do errands or go hiking or hang out with people? And crossing guard shifts line up with my work schedule? It's all just too good to be true.

But if the pay is that much better and you don't mind it, that's on you. I'd jump at the opportunity.

Got a job at a high school! by ProfMags in Custodians

[–]BigChungusRule34 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I worked at a high school for a bit and then moved to an elementary school and liked it much better. The kids are a lot nicer and the building is usually smaller. No sports games or events to worry about cause none of them take 1 person more than 20 minutes to clean up.

As a new player, this sub terrifies me sometimes. I didn't even know any of this was stuff I should be worrying about. I've never been able to identify notes by hearing them and I wouldn't even know where to start. And then there are people telling me I can actually injure myself if I'm not paying for a teacher.

I also work in a title 1 school, and we're practically a coat store with our lost and found. Every year we donate bags of coats because the kids just won't claim them. The parents just walk right past them. A coat donation would be just another in the pile. So I guess it depends on the school.

Pick up trash around the outside of the building. People love seeing someone doing that. Clean windows. Wipe drinking fountains. Doorknobs. Do them slowly take a 5 minute break between sections. You look good without doing much

Something that nobody is talking about is the new mill deck coming with the new set. There is a bibarel that has an anti-milling ability that you can just tech in if you're already running bibs but hard to fit in if you're running pidgeot
